"Boom!" Another thunderous roar resounded as the heavy rain poured down relentlessly; large raindrops pelted the leaves, creating a crackling noise. Luo Zheng, hidden in the tree canopy, wore a Jili suit that closely matched the surrounding environnt, camouflaging him well. With his limbs tightly wrapped around a branch, he rged himself with it, swaying with the wind and always at risk of falling.
The canopy was about twenty ters above the ground, dense with branches and lush with green leaves, offering substantial concealnt, but it was also perilous. Luo Zheng had no choice; the middle part of the tree, though full of branches that provided cover, had a relatively open view. An ordinary person might not notice, but the mbers of the Wild Wolf rcenary Group were different. Skilled in jungle warfare, they would definitely scrutinize their surroundings. Hiding among the branches there was a high risk of exposure, so the canopy was relatively safer.
The torrential rain fell loudly, trickling down the Jili suit. Luo Zheng watched the approaching enemy calmly, adjusted his state through his family's breathing technique, letting no hint of his presence leak. He even turned off the safety on his sniper rifle and dared not aim to shoot. For a master like Fox Wolf, who had incredibly sharp instincts, even the slightest murderous intent would be detected, sothing Luo Zheng had experienced deeply during his last sniping attempt on Fox Wolf at the cliff.
Without absolute certainty, Luo Zheng dared not fire his weapon. He quietly clung to the branch, swaying with the wind, imagining himself as part of the branch, as non-existent as the air, and patiently waited. After a while, Luo Zheng noticed Fox Wolf and others stopped about ten ters away from him, vigilantly scanning their surroundings. The strong wind, blowing the canopy in changing directions, concealed Luo Zheng.
Soon, Luo Zheng saw a large group of ard individuals rush up and et with Fox Wolf. They dispersed to keep watch around the area. A few who looked like leaders whispered sothing to Fox Wolf. Quickly, these n set up camp thodically, pitched tents, erected antennas, and set up portable short-range battlefield Reconnaissance Radars and turned on computers.
Seeing the well-equipped enemy, Luo Zheng was startled. This type of battlefield radar, also known as ground movent target-indicating radar, is used for alerting and reconnaissance of moving targets like personnel, vehicles, and tanks. It generally uses a 3 cm or shorter wavelength to improve accuracy and reduce size and weight—sothing he had learned in Special Forces.
Since active targets in the surrounding environnt often co with a lot of ground features, this radar usually employs moving target indication technology to detect the active target signals amidst strong ground clutter. It can search for vehicles up to 10 kiloters away; though the range for detecting people is not as far, it is still considerable. Luo Zheng believed that Lan Xue and the others were still within the search range. He quickly touched his military headset, sending out a predetermined "Ergency Evacuation" signal.
After sending the signal, Luo Zheng didn't know whether Lan Xue and the others would evacuate. He remained vigilant, pondering that their exposure might be related to the ground radar. Without taking out that device, the enemy would cling like wolves, never letting go. With this in mind, Luo Zheng made up his mind.
At that mont, Lan Xue quietly inquired through the military headset, her words tinged with urgency. Luo Zheng couldn't talk as he saw Fox Wolf and others enter a tent, leaving only two people fiddling with the radar while others busied themselves setting up camp. Unnoticed, he carefully took his Type 95 rifle from his back and fetched a grenade launcher from his military backpack, attaching it and loading a 35mm grenade, aiming at the radar.
Luo Zheng was exceedingly careful and slow with this process, fortunate that the sound of wind and rain masked any noise. The enemies below began moving into the tents, none paying attention to the tree canopy not far away. After aiming at the radar, Luo Zheng didn't fire imdiately but rather looked around, confirming his escape route.
The enemy was too strong and nurous, Luo Zheng knew he didn't have much ti left. He silently calculated that it would take about three seconds to descend from the treetop, which was enough ti for Fox Wolf and the others to rush out of the tent. He wouldn't have enough ti to evacuate. Realizing this, Luo Zheng took two grenades from his military backpack and hung them on his chest.
Once everything was ready, Luo Zheng aid at the radar, concentrated, and cald himself. There was only one chance, and Luo Zheng dared not be careless. He forced himself to block out the surrounding wind and rain sounds, entering a closed-off state. His forefinger slowly reached for the trigger, his eyes slightly closed then suddenly opened, emitting a deadly aura.
"Boom!" The grenade whistled away, tracing a terrifying fla through the Void. Luo Zheng didn't have ti to watch, confident in his shot. His body sprang forward, diving toward the ground below. Mid-air, Luo Zheng grabbed a tree branch to slow his descent before letting go to continue falling.
"Bang!" Still in mid-air, Luo Zheng heard a loud explosion and couldn't help feeling elated. His hands grabbed another branch to lessen the impact before he fell straight down. Landing, Luo Zheng rolled under a tree. He took off the two grenades from his chest and decisively pulled the pins.
After the explosion, the enemy camp erupted into chaos. Just as Luo Zheng pulled the pins, he saw Fox Wolf rush out of the tent. Without hesitation, he furiously threw the two grenades and forcefully pushed off the ground, lowering his head and bending forward, his body shooting forward like a bolt from a bow. Whether he could safely evacuate depended entirely on the brief cover provided by the grenades. Luo Zheng dared not look back.
In this life-or-death mont, Luo Zheng unleashed an incredible potential. He whirled through the trees into the deeper forest like the wind, nimbly dodging the tree trunks in front of him, creating a rhythmical phantom image. About two seconds later, he had darted twenty ters forward, and after another two seconds, two enormous explosions sounded.
Fox Wolf, rushing out of the tent, keenly spotted Luo Zheng's position. Seeing two dark objects flying towards him, he quickly dodged. By the ti the grenades exploded, three to four seconds had passed. The heavy rain obscured his vision, Luo Zheng's shadow nowhere to be seen, he couldn't help but bellow angrily. Soon, a team furiously chased in the direction Luo Zheng had disappeared, so angrily opening fire, howling in the storm like wounded beasts.
In three to four seconds, Luo Zheng had run thirty to forty ters. The trees effectively blocked the bullets. The gunfire signaled the enemy's reaction, but Luo Zheng didn't dare to stop. He continued his mad dash like a tiger chasing its prey, his eyes coldly scanning the surroundings, discerning the most efficient and effortless path.
After rushing over a slope, Luo Zheng arrived at a hillside, looking at the opposite slope and guessing there might be a river ahead. The enemies were closing in from behind, and crossing the river would take too much ti, making him an easy target. Luo Zheng ran down the hillside and, upon hearing continuous gunfire from behind, knew he had stirred up a hornet's nest. Gritting his teeth, he pulled three grenades from his march pack and, while running, tore off a vine from a nearby tree.
