"Yes!" In the trenches, the running soldiers heard Lan Xue's order and roared with fury, halting their movent. They examined the surrounding terrain and found positions to set up heavy machine guns, skillfully reloading bullets. At this mont, the enemy helicopters ca whistling by once more, about two thousand ters away. From their concealed angles, they could see the helicopters' sides rather than the nose, and they couldn't help but feel elated, understanding Lan Xue's tactical intention.
"Fire!" Lan Xue roared out the command through the earpiece to all heavy machine gunners, with intense fighting spirit. Everyone's spirits lifted, and they started to aim fiercely at the sides of the enemy helicopters, unleashing a torrent of bullets through the void like a fire dragon, savagely hitting the target.
When attacked head-on, helicopters can ascend to use their underbelly as a shield against bullets, but the side attack is different. Helicopters can sidefly to gain height, but in sideflying, their underbelly only protects one side, and the topside inclines to the other side. The top is a weak spot with poor bullet resistance, exposed to heavy machine gunfire from the other side.
"Thud, thud, thud!" The special bullets from the heavy machine guns roared through the air with fierce killing intent.
One helicopter dodged attacks from one side, but when sideflying, its top was exposed to heavy machine gunfire from the other side. The rotor was hit, starting to decelerate. Imdiately after, the door of another helicopter was blasted apart, and the pilot was killed on the spot. The helicopter lost control and spiraled erratically.
However, the helicopters were fast. In the blink of an eye, they raced past the trenches, whistling overhead. To attack again would require changing shooting positions and adjusting heavy machine gun directions. Fortunately, the flanking attack caught the enemy off guard. The enemy was busy dodging the gunfire and did not launch an attack on the trench.
This attack took down two helicopters, a resounding victory, giving everyone a sense of relief. Spirits soared and they roared with excitent, watching the helicopters whiz by. Suddenly, they saw dozens of rockets flying through the void ahead, three in a group, targeting the passing helicopters.
"Boom, boom, boom!" Almost simultaneously, three helicopters were blown apart, disintegrating in the void in an instant and forming a huge fireball. Countless aircraft debris flew wildly, and black smoke filled the air. Everyone was stunned, staring blankly at the scene. Suddenly, they thought of sothing and shouted with excitent.
"Kill!" The roar, filled with a powerful killing intent, echoed through the skies as if to shake the heavens themselves, unleashing a volcano-like fighting spirit. The troops' morale was sky-high, not daunted by the enemy helicopters.
Captain Li, looking at the helicopter wreckage, shouted excitedly at Lan Xue, "Did you see that? I knew they were fine. That was beautiful. The helicopters flew over the trench in less than a second, and they seized that fleeting mont. Excellent work, no wonder they are soldiers I've trained."
"Stop bragging, it has nothing to do with you." Lan Xue snapped irritably, her worried expression gone. The ability to seize that split-second to launch a tactical and coordinated attack, she could think of no one else but Luo Zheng. As long as her love was alive, nothing else mattered. She hollered excitedly, "Heavy machine guns, move to the center imdiately. The enemy is about to attack the sides of the trench."
"Got it." The brothers operating the heavy machine guns responded excitedly, picking up the heavy machine guns and running towards the center of the trench. The enemy helicopters were indeed terrifying, but the trenches provided so protection against enemy bullets. As long as they stayed within the trenches, strafing couldn't scare them, unless the helicopters hovered overhead to shoot, which wasn't a big issue.
Inside the trench, after directing everyone to take out the enemy helicopters, Luo Zheng glanced at the deep trench with a somber expression. The trench was five ters deep, with smooth sides that offered no hold for climbing. Building a human ladder was feasible, but what about the bottom person? Staying trapped in the trench wasn't a solution. If the enemy's ground forces attacked, death was certain.
Suddenly, from the corner of his eye, Luo Zheng noticed a wooden bridge lying across the trench. An idea struck him, and he quickly shouted, "Everyone gather, form a human ladder, and put down the wooden bridge."
"Yes." Everyone nodded in understanding. Two people quickly crouched under the bridge, hands grasping the trench wall. Another person stepped onto their shoulders, and yet another skillfully climbed their comrades to reach the bridge. With leverage from their hands, they cleverly flipped onto the bridge, lying flat to survey the surroundings. Ensuring no danger, they swiftly moved the bridge down.
The group tilted the wooden bridge, hugging it with their hands and feet like agile monkeys, climbing out of the trench. Once out, they quickly rolled and lay flat on the ground, cautiously observing around them. There were no enemy helicopters or ground troops, and they breathed a sigh of relief, pulling up their comrades below.
Luo Zheng was the last to climb up. His tiger-like eyes scanned the surroundings, fixing on the burning wreckage of a helicopter nearby. With killing intent, he said fiercely, "Brothers, let's retreat."
"Yes." Everyone, cradling RPGs, quickly retreated, running without enemy attacks and safely withdrawing to the trench. Upon reentering the trench, Luo Zheng saw Lan Xue running towards him with a worried face. His heart ward as he gave her a reassuring look and spoke to Captain Li, who was following Lan Xue, "Hook, co here!"
"Coming." Hook ran up, full of excitent, looking at Luo Zheng with admiration and giving a thumbs up, "Old friend, your troops are impressive. They repelled the enemy; I'm convinced, and so are the brothers. No need for thanks, what do you need to do?"
"Wait a mont." Lan Xue didn't stand on ceremony, turning to Captain Li and asking, "Enemy helicopters are terrifying; continuing like this isn't a solution. Do you have any good ideas?"
"The only option is to dig deeper trenches and layer defensive lines." Captain Li said helplessly. Against overwhelming air power, the only alternative is to hide underground unless there's strong anti-air support.
Luo Zheng knew Captain Li's words were true. His expression grew more severe, and after pondering briefly, he said, "The enemy is adjusting their tactics; the troops must withdraw imdiately."
"Withdraw? Why?" Everyone looked at Luo Zheng in surprise. Retreating just as the battle comnced would severely impact morale. Besides, they hadn't lost yet and were still combat-capable. Why retreat now?
Seeing their surprised expressions, Luo Zheng explained gravely, "I can't clearly explain, it's a gut feeling. My intuition tells this place is unsafe. Why didn't the enemy continue their attack? They could have arranged for helicopters to continue long-range bombing. We couldn't retaliate and would be trapped in the trenches. If ground troops charged at that mont, we'd be in a passive position, but they didn't do that. Why?"
