The surprise attack went unusually smoothly, so smoothly that Luo Zheng couldn't help but doubt everything he saw. There were quite a few patrols on the outskirts of the enemy camp, yet they didn't rush forward to stop them. Even if they used Stinger missiles for long-range counterattacks, they could have caused great trouble for the troops. Moreover, the helicopters were not attacked imdiately and could have quickly taken to the air for combat. Luo Zheng was worried about these factors, which is why he ordered the troops to launch separate surprise attacks, only to find out that it was unnecessary.
Regardless, the surprise attack went smoothly, and that was enough. With an order from Luo Zheng, the troops quickly retreated. Faced with so many missile attacks and the missiles exploding within the enemy camp, the enemy missiles couldn't have survived. The troops swiftly withdrew, and soon, other units caught up and regrouped.
After more than ten minutes, all units gathered in one place. Luo Zheng saw Shadow coming along with the Scholar and gave Shadow a punch to the chest, raised his thumb, and exclaid excitedly, "Well done. You were quick to take out the enemy's radar and communication equipnt, crippling their command system. Not only did you cover our successful surprise attack, but you also left the enemy at a loss on how to retaliate. You've done a great deed."
"Co on, it's a small feat, not worth rembering," Shadow said with a smug smile.
"I was just wondering why the enemy didn't counterattack. Now it seems it's not that they didn't want to, but they didn't know whether to. With their communication system destroyed, officers can't find soldiers and vice versa. Without orders, the outer troops dared not engage, and officers couldn't relay orders to the soldiers. Makes sense," the Scholar laughed.
"It's not just that orders couldn't be delivered, it's that the officers were all blown to pieces. Think about it, wasn't it all the officers who lived in the central part of the base? And the spacious barracks were surrounded by many small tents, right? Such a massive explosion, with shockwaves as powerful as a grade twelve tornado, swept everyone away, officers included," Drunkard laughed.
"No matter, the battle was a blast, such a thrill," Snow Fox said excitedly. "What's next?"
"Head to Hook Tribe's original settlent, where a troop of enemy soldiers is stationed. It's ti to counterattack. Without missiles, helicopters, or a command system, the enemies are like tigers without claws. No matter how fierce, they're useless unless they deploy fighter jets. We're not far from the ocean here, so there's a good chance they'd use fighter jets, but no matter, you can't wage a war looking backward," Luo Zheng said, casting a cold glance at Hook.
Hook understood Luo Zheng's warning, agreeing heartily, "Right, there's no war without casualties. We should launch a counterattack amid the enemy's chaos, capturing as many prisoners of war as possible. Once the enemy regains its senses, it'll be too late for us. I'm with you."
"Good," Luo Zheng nodded approvingly. "Lan Xing, order Ghost Hand, Snow Leopard, and Captain Li to quickly strike, expand the battle results, and capture more prisoners."
The enemy troops engaging in the forest fight are just over three thousand. Without the help of missiles and helicopters, their combat power plumts. Plus, their base is destroyed, which is sure to disturb morale. It's an excellent ti for a counterattack; missing it ans losing the opportunity. Luo Zheng's commands quickly reached others through Lan Xing, launching a counteroffensive.
Luo Zheng and others dashed toward Hook Tribe's original settlent, all filled with excitent from their victory, seemingly bursting with endless energy. At dusk, heavy rain started pouring from the sky, forcing everyone to find a cliff cave to take shelter. Such naturally concave caves are quite common in the virgin forest.
The night ca, and the heavy rain hindered traveling. Everyone built a campfire and started roasting a large black bear and a wild deer they hunted and skinned on their way, while sitting around chatting. Luo Zheng shared so of the military construction systems and thods with Hook.
Half an hour later, the wild ga roasted and everyone began eating. After filling their bellies, Luo Zheng asked Shadow to arrange a lookout. anwhile, others sat around resting. After rushing for two consecutive nights to surprise the enemy's missile base, everyone was exhausted. Plus, they just finished a high-speed charge, pushing their bodies to the limit. This rainy night was a perfect ti for so rest.
Soon, the sound of snoring rumbled around like thunder, echoing in succession. Being in a cave under the cliff, they were hidden from enemy satellites, and with the rainy night, they didn't fear a surprise attack. The lookout was more for wild beasts, as there were plenty of fierce creatures in this virgin forest capable of taking lives, such as leopards, Senran, and packs of Wild Wolves, all quite terrifying.
Ti slipped away unnoticed until it was daylight. After a night's rest, the troops regained their energy. After eating so dry rations, they resud their journey by road. During the march, Luo Zheng activated the signaler, connected to the satellite, and asked, "Lan Xing, what's the current situation?"
"Just received intel, the enemy reinforcents have landed, at least ten thousand strong. What a coincidence," Lan Xing said, with a hint of relief in his tone.
"Ten thousand reinforcents?" Luo Zheng was taken aback, stopping in his tracks. The other military leaders around also paused, curiously looking at Luo Zheng, wondering what had happened. Only Lan Xue could hear, as Lan Xing was using a secret channel to communicate with Luo Zheng.
"So, if we'd delayed the action by a day, it wouldn't have worked? What a coincidence?" Lan Xue also exclaid in surprise, her gaze at Luo Zheng filled with a sense of relief.
"Yes, to be exact, if you had chosen to rest last night and launched the attack this morning, it wouldn't have worked. The enemy's reinforcent was a secret, when they set off is still a mystery, kept very well hidden, even from us. Luckily, our luck held," Lan Xing promptly added.
"Phew, that was close," Luo Zheng chuckled with a lingering fear, exchanging a glance with Lan Xue, and asked, "How are our guys doing?"
"They have fought a few battles, captured quite a bit, suffered no losses, and the results are being tallied. They are all moving towards Hook Tribe's original settlent; the enemy has retreated from the virgin forest. Director Wu's intention is not to pursue them. Let them go; there aren't many left. Capturing them is pointless; letting them return is more beneficial to instill fear among the enemy, particularly as they take news of their captured comrades with them, making the enemy hesitant to use weapons of mass destruction against you," Lan Xing hurriedly explained.
"Fantastic," Luo Zheng exclaid joyfully, saying, "Captain Wu's decision is spot on. The defeated troops have already been scared off. Keeping them is beneficial to us. Let know when the battle results are counted."
"What's going on?" Hook ca over to inquire.
Luo Zheng recounted the enemy reinforcents and the victory situation. Hook laughed excitedly, saying, "Fantastic, with prisoners in hand, the enemy will hesitate, and we are temporarily safe."
"Yes, let's head back to your original settlent," Luo Zheng said thoughtfully.
