Half an hour later, Shi Feng arrived leading a motorcade, then the master headed straight for the airport. Luo Zheng drove personally, Shi Feng sat in the passenger seat, the master and his disciple sat in the back. The car blended into the middle of the convoy, curtains drawn so no one outside could see in. Police cars opened the way in front, intersections were sealed off, and the speed was very fast.
All the way there, nobody dared to relax their guard. Twin Gate had been wiped out, but that vicious snake Jackson was still around. Luo Zheng drove while staying alert to the surroundings, a police earpiece in his ear so he could hear other people's reports in real ti and keep abreast of developnts.
Before long, they drove up onto an elevated road and saw a few police cars parked by the roadside with people carrying out ergency repairs. Shi Feng explained from the side, "Those Twin Gate bastards made their move right here. They used a car to ram and disable the lead police car, then launched a frontal assault. Luckily they didn't have guns. If they'd had guns it would've been a lot more troubleso."
From his chats with Shi Qian, Luo Zheng knew that traditional people of the world disdained using guns and had a natural aversion to them. An organization like Twin Gate had inherited that trait too. He smiled without comnting, focused on his driving, and before long the convoy reached the airport. Coordination with the airport had already been handled; the convoy drove straight into the runway area and stopped beside a plane. Everyone got out and quickly secured the periter.
The master got out, looked at Luo Zheng with a strange expression, and said, "Rember what I told you." Before Luo Zheng could react, he led his disciple up the stairs and boarded the plane.
"What did he say?" Lan Xue asked curiously in a low voice.
Watching the master board the plane, Luo Zheng answered quietly, "The master said I'll face a calamity within a year, and when the ti cos I can go to Heavenly Pearl Temple to find him to resolve it. I don't really get what he ant exactly."
"This master isn't simple. I had my little sister check him out. Setting aside his high moral standing, his Buddhist practice is profound. Guess how old he is?" Lan Xue said softly.
"Judging from his body and his gait, I'd say around eighty?" Luo Zheng said in a low voice.
"Eighty? He's already a hundred and twenty-eight this year." Lan Xue replied quietly.
"No way?" Luo Zheng looked at Lan Xue in surprise. Seeing that she didn't look like she was joking, he believed it a bit more and went on with a sigh, "Seeing how well he eats and sleeps, how freely he moves, saying eighty is already overestimating it. I didn't expect him to be that old. He really is a remarkable person."
"So you'd better rember his words. Later tell the exact location of Heavenly Pearl Temple, just in case." Lan Xue reminded him with concern.
"Got it." Luo Zheng agreed, though he didn't really take it to heart. For a soldier on the battlefield, if there's a calamity it's either death or injury. What use is finding an Elder Lama? Military Doctor Wu seed more reliable.
At this mont, Shi Feng walked over and said in a low voice, "Even though it's a special plane, the staff on board are still easy to impersonate. Should we check them?"
"No need." Luo Zheng smiled. Seeing the confusion on Shi Feng's face, he explained, "First, this special plane was a last-minute decision; no one knew in advance, so Jackson's people wouldn't have had ti to infiltrate and replace anyone. Second, Jackson wouldn't dare make a move on the plane. If sothing really did happen and we publicly announced it was Jackson's doing, wouldn't those independence troublemakers in the west quiet down? To say sothing ruthless, I'd actually love for Jackson to make a move."
"Why?" Shi Feng pursued curiously.
"Think about it. If those independence agitators found out that their backer orchestrated an assassination on their spiritual leader, what would they think? Would they still dare make trouble? And if they still do, we'll just use force to suppress them. With Sam Country no longer backing them, where could those radicals run?" Luo Zheng said with a low chuckle.
"True, makes sense." Shi Feng also chuckled, then, watching the cabin door begin to close, suddenly thought of sothing and looked at Luo Zheng to ask, "Where's Shi Qian? Did that bastard run off?"
"He didn't run. He's under my watch. We still need him to cooperate with us on so things." Luo Zheng said with a smile.
Shi Feng looked at Luo Zheng curiously, then suddenly laughed. "Alright, since you're protecting him, we'll let him off this once. Anyway, the goods are back, the case is perfectly wrapped up, and he did make a lot of contributions. We'll call it closed here. I'll handle the follow-up procedures, and it won't leave a record on his file."
"Then I'll thank you on his behalf." Luo Zheng said with a smile.
"Don't thank . Just say that kid's got good fortune, catching your eye. If he can serve the country, it's not like my bending the rules for a bit would be in vain. If that kid turns out to be untrustworthy, tell and I'll deal with him." Shi Feng said with a grin.
"If he's really untrustworthy, I'll be the one to deal with him." Luo Zheng smiled.
"True, your thods are harsher than mine. It's taking off, we're in the clear. Let's get ready to pull out, go back and get so proper sleep. I'll co find you for drinks tonight. We can't have this celebration banquet without you guys; the brothers all said if you don't show, they won't have the face to show either." Shi Feng said earnestly.
"Alright, I'll be there." Luo Zheng replied with a smile.
As they chatted, the plane took off safely and quickly climbed into the sky. At Shi Feng's order, everyone got into their vehicles and headed back. Once back at municipal headquarters, Luo Zheng dismissed his own brothers, then took Lan Xue, Lan Xing, Snow Leopard, and Mountain Eagle and drove straight to the hospital.
Over ten minutes later, they arrived at the hospital entrance in Lan Xue's private car. Ghost Hand ca out to greet them. Luo Zheng asked anxiously, "How are the wounded brothers?"
"The surgeries just finished. Their wounds have been cleaned, there are no signs of poisoning, and the injuries aren't serious, but they'll need ten days or so in bed. Military Doctor Wu is on his way. Don't worry, I'll keep watch here." Ghost Hand hurriedly explained.
"Good." Luo Zheng secretly let out a breath of relief.
They went to the ward. The three injured brothers were lying on their beds resting. When they saw Luo Zheng and the others co in, they lowered their heads in sha. Getting injured by a few petty thieves made them all feel they'd lost face and didn't dare et Luo Zheng's eyes. Luo Zheng understood how they felt, gave them a few instructions to rest well and recover, then left Ghost Hand, Snow Leopard, and Mountain Eagle to look after them, and took the two Lan sisters away.
Leaving the hospital, the three of them got in the car. After driving out of the hospital parking lot and onto the main road, Lan Xue said, "You go to the municipal bureau to drink with them tonight. My sister and I won't go. Tomorrow's New Year's Eve; I have to stay ho with my family, and you should be ho too. The first day of the new year it's not convenient to go visiting relatives. On the second day, you co over to my family's place."
"No problem." Luo Zheng agreed quickly, warmth spreading in his heart. According to tradition, n visit their wife's family on the second day of the new year. Lan Xue's arrangent couldn't be more obvious. Luo Zheng wasn't stupid; he looked at Lan Xue with a happy smile.
"I really can't stand you two. Don't forget there's a single young woman sitting here. All this PDA is cruel to , alright? If you're that reluctant to part, just spend the New Year together already. You're going to be one family sooner or later anyway. Sis, what do you say?" Lan Xing complained unhappily.
Luo Zheng's eyes lit up and he looked at Lan Xue. Lan Xue's face flushed red as she smiled, but she didn't say anything.
