"Da da da! Kill them—!"
Following Cody's command, a thunderous war cry erupted, with bullets pouring down like tens of thousands of thunders striking at once. Cody, stunned by the sound, felt sothing was off. Upon closer inspection, his face went pale with horror as he saw countless n being shot down, a large army, which he realized were Governnt Army troops, had mysteriously appeared behind them.
"No good," Cody shouted, his face drastically changing as he looked toward the Gold dal Killer.
"Quick, retreat first," the Gold dal Killer, also noticing the suddenly-erged troops and realizing the turn of the tide, shouted urgently. Not caring about the other ard individuals, he started running toward another direction. Assassins are cold and indifferent, holding everyone else's life in contempt but cherishing their own.
Seeing the Gold dal Killer take off first, Cody didn't dare to linger. He yelled the order to retreat and sprinted away, followed by the other surviving ard personnel. Seeing Cody run and witnessing the abrupt appearance of the mass of Governnt Army soldiers, their will to fight vanished, and they began to flee in total disarray alongside Cody, cursing the day they weren't born with an extra pair of legs.
The situation changed too rapidly; the sudden appearance of the large regular army completely turned the tide of battle. The intensive gunfire chased the fleeing militants with a howling fury, leaving behind nurous corpses. After Luo Zheng and the others had taken down about a dozen pursuers, they watched, astonished, as the militants scrambled away in retreat. It all seed so unreal.
"Are we saved?" Snow Leopard asked, bewildered.
Everyone stared blankly at the scattering militants, their faces filled with confusion. Lan Xue, seeing the Governnt Army rushing over, felt a surge of joy at their narrow escape. She exhaled a sigh of relief and whispered, "It must be Ghost who managed to find help from the Governnt Army; we don't have to die. "
"We don't have to die?" Ghost Hand felt his mind go numb, but he quickly recovered and exclaid excitedly, "The damned drunkard finally showed up! Ghost, my boy, you've got a good tolerance for liquor. You'll have to outdrink him later. He's so late, it was close! I thought we wouldn't make it this ti."
"Exactly, showing up so late really scared ." Mountain Eagle said with a laugh, his face betraying no sign of fear, only the joy of surviving.
"Late arrival is still an arrival. We're still alive, and that's enough," Luo Zheng said softly, turning toward Lan Xue.
Lan Xue nodded understandingly. Once more, they had faced death together, and their hearts had rged into one, inseparable, and no one could tear them apart. Before long, Ghost ca charging over. Seeing everyone looking dirty and disheveled but intact with no serious injuries—just so scratches at most—he breathed a sigh of relief. Noticing Luo Zheng and Lan Xue holding hands, he said with a wistful expression, "Kid, are you showing off to ?"
"What do you think?" Luo Zheng, holding Lan Xue's hand slightly up, was in high spirits and said, "You're too late; she's mine now. She is today and will be in the future. You've got no chance."
"Yeah, you've got no chance. You ca so late; we nearly had to go out in a blaze of glory," Ghost Hand laughed.
Ghost looked at Lan Xue, who had her usual cold expression and hadn't let go of Luo Zheng's hand, an implicit agreent to Luo Zheng's words. He couldn't help but smile bitterly, "Don't get too cocky; you two aren't married yet. Xue Er is still single; I still have a chance, and so do many others at the base. If you, kid, want to secure your position, you need to get stronger fast and defeat all of us. Otherwise, who the ultimate winner is, well, that's yet to be decided, right Xue Er?"
"He will defeat you, the man I have set my sights on is second to none." Lan Xue said coldly.
"Uh?" The drunkard gave an awkward smile. Such words were quite a blow. It was the first ti, in his mory, that Lan Xue had so openly defended a man and revealed her own feelings. Guessing that he probably had no chance in his lifeti, he saw Luo Zheng's face brimming with triumph. His fighting spirit surged, and he said earnestly, "Kid, there is no such word as 'retreat' in a soldier's dictionary. I am waiting for you to defeat ; otherwise, you are not worthy of having her."
"Fine, you just wait." Luo Zheng, full of fighting spirit, responded unabashedly.
At that mont, a Colonel approached, saluted everyone, and they hurriedly returned the salute out of respect. Speaking in a universal language, the Colonel said, "Is everyone alright? My n have gone after those bastards, and the dic is on the way. If there's anything you need, just say it, and I will fully cooperate."
"Thank you very much, Colonel." The drunkard said gratefully, "They all have various degrees of injuries and so are exhausted. If possible, please arrange for stretchers and get them to treatnt as soon as possible." Despite their verbal sparring and competition, the drunkard was clear about separating personal matters from business, arranging for the aftermath appropriately.
"Okay," replied the Colonel, imdiately taking out his walkie-talkie to radio in the local language.
Gratefully, Luo Zheng nodded to the drunkard. The recent close combat had drained everyone, and being under fire from the ard militants had left them all with varying injuries; they surely needed treatnt. Suddenly rembering Ett, Luo Zheng looked towards Mountain Eagle, the last to co out, who glanced aningfully toward the basent entrance.
Lan Xue also sensed Luo Zheng's unease. Seeing his gaze directed toward the basent entrance, she quickly realized what was up, shook her head, and Luo Zheng got the ssage. It was better to let Ett hide inside. Once the Governnt Army left, Ett would naturally find a way to escape. Erging now could be detrintal, especially with Wata's identity at stake—he could get arrested or even face execution. This was Ba Country, not Huaxia; they had no right to interfere with Ba Country's affairs.
"What kind of riddle are you two playing at?" the drunkard asked.
"It's nothing. Among those who got away was a white Assassin. He didn't run far." Lan Xue explained.
The drunkard inquired about the features of the white Assassin, and after a short while, several dics arrived with stretchers, running their way. Although everyone could still walk, it would be impolite to refuse help, so they were carried onto the vehicles, and with the Guard's protection, they whizzed off. Along the way, everyone remained silent, mulling over their thoughts; Luo Zheng thought of the Song family and that Assassin. As for Wata's people, being pursued by the Governnt Army, either they would end up dead or barely escape with their lives; it was no longer a concern.
An hour later, everyone arrived in the city and was ushered into a dical room for treatnt. During the close combat, Luo Zheng had been hit a few tis with a gun, and a knife had gashed his skin, but they were all external injuries. After cleaning and bandaging the wounds, there were no serious issues. Lan Xue was even stronger and was uninjured while the others had minor injuries of varying degrees, nothing serious.
After bandaging, everyone was assigned to a hospital room to rest. Food and water were provided, and as everyone was starving, no one hesitated to indulge. This ti the drunkard had brought three people along, who were now on guard outside; together with the Governnt Army's protection, safety was not an issue, and everyone rested and healed with peace of mind.
Two hours later, the drunkard ca running, looking hurried, and announced, "Wata's n have been completely wiped out; the white Assassin has escaped and is currently untraceable."
