The reckless shot startled Lan Xue, who regarded Luo Zheng with a chill in her eyes as she registered his determination to save her at all costs, his resolute aura that would not rest until she was safe. Her icy deanor lted into radiant sunshine, she smiled faintly—her smile tinged with sorrow, helplessness, and mostly contentnt—and said in a firm tone, "Wolf King, just shoot. To serve as a stepping stone for a notorious hero like you would be an honor. Dying at your hands, I would have no regrets."
"You bastard, you asshole," the Wolf King roared angrily, pressing the gun against Lan Xue's head, his eyes sharp as a frenzied, starving wolf, locking onto Luo Zheng, "Send two people out, get this son of a bitch under control."
At this, two people burst from the crowd, each wielding a handgun, threatening the police to step aside and slowly advancing while aiming at Luo Zheng. Perhaps wary of Luo Zheng's fierce thods and his reckless style, they did not dare to approach too closely. Luo Zheng glanced at them from the corner of his eye, confronting the Wolf King coldly, "Don't push my limits. Your only choice is to take hostage, release her. After I've killed so many of your people, don't you want to capture for revenge?"
Hearing the word "revenge," the Wolf King's loss of control montarily subsided. Truly a villainous figure, his icy gaze fell on Lan Xue, noting her readiness for death matched with an odd sense of bliss. Looking again at Luo Zheng's unyielding determination, he understood much, realizing that indeed he had no better option: either die today or exchange hostages. Considering Luo Zheng's identity, the idea was tempting.
"Wolf King, you're soone with a reputation. What kind of skill is it to take a woman hostage? Even if I die here today, I'd be ridiculed. I'll go with you, and you should know well enough—having in your grasp, you can still get away," Luo Zheng continued, seeing the Wolf King's expression soften.
"No, I won't allow it," Lan Xue said sharply, her tone cold and unquestionable.
"This is my call, no discussion," Luo Zheng declared authoritatively. As a man, he could never let Lan Xue risk herself. In the hands of the Wolf King, she would surely have a grim fate. Once the Wolf King escaped, Lan Xue would be in mortal danger. Luo Zheng couldn't bear to watch his woman die before his eyes.
Lan Xue was taken aback, looking at her beloved man with his sowhat youthful face, resolute, his eyes sharp and piercing like cold stars, radiating an indomitable spirit, ready to die for her. This was the man she loved. Her expression softened, and with deep affection, she said, "You're so selfish. Why choose to go first? Fine, go ahead. After I kill these bastards, I'll follow you in death. I swear it."
"Good, I'll wait for you at the Naihe Bridge," Luo Zheng, aware of Lan Xue's resolute character and fully believing she would do as she promised, managed a sorrowful smile. The chilling look in his eyes grew colder; it seed as if the air around him was about to freeze, and a towering aura of killing intent erupted. Luo Zheng coldly took a step forward, his arm holding the pistol motionless, his trigger finger ready. He announced with a resolved voice, "You have three seconds to decide, or we all die together."
"Kid, you've got guts, I like that. I'll grant your wish," the Wolf King said coldly, signaling Lan Xue to step back. With a face showing profound suffering, Lan Xue looked decisively at Luo Zheng, her resolve and strength as if conveying her determination, then slowly began to back away.
"Hurry, arrange for the helicopter right now," Lan Xue shouted after stepping back a few paces, her face filled with sorrow as she looked coldly at the Wolf King, gritting her teeth, "I will kill you, I swear it."
"Bring it on, I'm waiting," the Wolf King replied, gradually regaining his composure, his formidable presence intensifying, his gaze solid and stern as he regarded Luo Zheng with a hint of respect, "Kid, you're not bad. But it's a pity. Hand over the gun, and I hope you won't play any more tricks. Forcing into compliance, you can consider yourself quite the character."
"Nothing to pity. If I die, so be it. It's no big deal. I'll just die a few days before you, that's all," Luo Zheng said casually. His hand relaxed, the handgun dropped to the ground, his arms spread open, surrendering his last ans of resistance.
By this ti, Lan Xue had already retreated to the police line. The captain of the Major Cris Unit cautiously approached Lan Xue and spoke in a low voice, "The sniper is on standby, with a clear line of fire. Should we take the shot?"
"No," Lan Xue whispered, "They're not ordinary thugs. Even if you shoot them in the head, their muscle mory could still make them complete the shot. He would still die. I can't watch him die in front of . Besides, there are others among the crowd with indefinite numbers. If we start shooting, many innocents will die."
The captain of the Major Cris Unit was taken aback and looked at Wolf King in confusion but said nothing more.
"Let him go, I'll be your hostage," a delicate female voice exclaid.
Luo Zheng was startled and turned his head. Among the crowd, a demure girl was trying to break through the police cordon, shouting loudly. It was Song Yun. Luo Zheng's expression changed as he looked at Lan Xue, who walked over and said in a low voice, "Shut up, this has nothing to do with you. Why are you here?"
"You're a coward, you're incompetent. Are you going to let him die? You can do that, but I can't," Song Yun said, her emotions sowhat out of control, as she pushed away the police and shouted at Wolf King, "You want to kill , don't you? Co and catch , I'm right here, take as your hostage."
"Kill him," Wolf King said coldly upon seeing Song Yun. His face turned chilly as he commanded.
One of the gunn who had aid at Luo Zheng turned the gun towards him. A cruel cold smile flashed across his indifferent face as he was about to pull the trigger. Luo Zheng coldly said, "You'd better not shoot, or it will break the current balance, and then we'll all be finished." Although he didn't like this woman, and even though she was the offspring of his enemies, as a soldier, Luo Zheng could not allow any innocent person here to be hard. A true man is clear about his debts of gratitude and grievances.
"Hold on," Wolf King ordered his subordinate, looking at Luo Zheng with interest. "If I'm not mistaken, you and her family are supposed to be enemies. It's quite sothing that an enemy's daughter is standing up for you. I must say, kid, you've got charm, more so than I had when I was young."
"Yeah, too bad there's no evidence. Can you give the evidence?" Luo Zheng said disdainfully, turning his head to shout at Lan Xue who was not far away, "Get this self-righteous woman out of here, she's so annoying. If she keeps making noise, knock her out."
"Did you hear that? Considering our private relations aren't that bad, let give you a piece of advice. You and we belong to completely different worlds; you don't understand our world's people, and frankly, you're not qualified to be a hostage. Going over there would only make things worse, a aningless sacrifice," Lan Xue said coldly. Seeing that Song Yun still wanted to speak, he lost patience and struck her with the side of his hand, knocking her out. He then signaled the police to take her away.
