Six hours later, over the Northwest, three thousand ters in the sky.
The helicopter was flying high, having departed from Beijing. Mid-journey, Wolf King opened the helicopter's transceiver to request communication, asking for refueling. The refueling location was quickly designated. The airport, following orders from the relevant authorities, cooperated eagerly. After refueling, Wolf King, of course, did not linger and charged ahead at full speed.
Luo Zheng looked down at the towering mountain peaks, the peaks were covered with year-round snow that never lted, and both the slopes and the ground were covered in vast whiteness—obviously, it had snowed not long ago. The Northwest was at its coldest during the Spring Festival period, tens of degrees below zero was nothing unusual. In about half an hour, they would be leaving the country, and by then, his life would probably co to an end.
"Never thought I'd actually die like this," Luo Zheng said with a bitter smile. He thought about it and found he could accept it; at least he was dying on the battlefield, not in a sickbed, which for a soldier, was also an honor. He looked at the two n guarding him who were taking turns to rest, their condition was full, and their vigilance was very high, giving him no chance at all.
"Kid, don't even try to escape. It's best you stay honest, and I'll ensure you get a quick end. There are many ways to die, you know that, so don't force my hand," Wolf King said coldly as he flew the helicopter with focus.
"Yeah, then I should thank you. Considering I'm about to die, there are so questions I want to verify. Can you let die knowing the truth? You wouldn't deny even this small request, right?" Luo Zheng said indifferently, with a nonchalant expression. At this point, it was hard for him not to resign himself to fate.
"Ask away, but I might not answer," Wolf King said coldly, keeping a tight lip.
"We have fought several tis, and although I've won each ti, I must say you guys are also quite formidable. I want to know how you were able to track my movents?" Luo Zheng asked, a question that had perplexed him for a long ti, as he looked at Wolf King with keen ears.
"I won't hide it from you, it was because soone inford on you. The informant was very thorough, leaving no trail, and not even we knew who it was. It was only after our base was besieged that I confird their identity. Ironically, we have a common enemy. Originally, my trip to Beijing was to deal with the Song family. I killed two, but didn't obtain any direct evidence. Unexpectedly, you interrupted at the club and since you appeared, naturally I decided to kill you first, then vent my anger on the Song family. I didn't expect to end up being defeated by you," Wolf King said with an unfriendly tone.
"No evidence at all? I don't believe that," Luo Zheng said calmly.
"Believe it or not, we never need evidence in our actions; we only follow our hearts and do as we please. If we think it's the Song family, then it must be the Song family. Even if it isn't, it doesn't matter—it's just killing, right?" Wolf King said arrogantly, full of domineering confidence.
"That's true, you rcenaries view life as nothing, there's nothing you can't do. But, I believe you still have evidence. Hand it over to my comrades; let them take care of the Song family and bring them down completely. Wouldn't that be perfect?" Luo Zheng said with a faint smile.
"Thinking of collaborating? It's too late for that. You've killed too many of my brothers, there's no room for turning back," Wolf King said with a cold laugh.
"That was their own damn fault," Luo Zheng scoffed with a cold laugh.
With that said, the two fell silent. After a while, larger turbulences appeared ahead. Under the nasty weather, the airflow in the sky changed drastically. Helicopters aren't like large airliners; they can't fly too high to avoid this, so the best thod was to fly at low altitude, using mountain peaks for shelter against the irregular cold air currents.
Luo Zheng glanced ahead as if a great storm was brewing. Such terrible weather was unsuitable for flying. Soon, the helicopter descended to around two thousand ters, where huge gusts of cold air caused severe shaking. The Wolf King continued to lower the helicopter until it was stable at an altitude of one thousand ters and flew around mountain peaks that were two to three thousand ters above sea level.
With the mountain peaks providing cover, the airflow was sowhat more stable, but the helicopter still rocked uncertainly. The Wolf King had to keep reducing altitude, flying low until they were five hundred ters up, when it finally stabilized. Luo Zheng watched in admiration at the Wolf King's exquisite flying skills, while the two people assigned to keep an eye on him remained still, showing not a hint of worry.
The helicopter flew along the canyon, and Luo Zheng observed the snow on the mountainside outside—layer upon layer of white, devoid of any sign of life. The cold wind seeped through the gaps, chilling to the bone. Suddenly, Luo Zheng had an idea. Without showing any emotion, he glanced at the two in front of him and then at the Wolf King, who was focused on piloting.
A while later, as the helicopter tilted towards a mountainside about fifty ters away, a gleam of shrewdness flashed in Luo Zheng's eyes. Taking advantage of a mont's turbulence, he lunged forward swiftly like a cheetah, grabbed one man's wrist, and aid the hijacked pistol at the door lock of the cabin.
"Bang!" The man, realizing Luo Zheng was trying to take his gun, almost reflexively pulled the trigger in retaliation. The bullet whistled past, shattering the position of the cabin door lock. As another man ca to help, Luo Zheng kept a death grip on the first man's hand, utterly indifferent to the punches landing on his body from the other. The confined space restricted their movent, and the attacks couldn't inflict fatal damage.
Quickly, Luo Zheng snatched the gun from the man and fired two shots at the door lock. He then leaned back sharply, shoving the other man aside sowhat and slamd the gun at the Wolf King, who was still at the controls. The Wolf King tilted his head and leaned to the side, instinctively dodging the blow, causing his hand on the control stick to also skew instinctively to one side.
The helicopter veered towards the mountainside. The Wolf King realized his reaction was excessive—the mountainside was just ten ters away, and they nearly crashed. He hurriedly corrected the direction, not daring to look back. The turbulence was too strong; one slip could an destruction and death. While concentrating on piloting, he shouted angrily, "Kill him!"
But by that ti, Luo Zheng didn't wait for the two n to react. He propelled himself against the door, which had co loose, and pulled it open. The mighty rush of cold air flooded in, knocking down the two n who had co at him. Luo Zheng gripped the cabin door tightly to avoid being swept away, then without hesitation, leapt out.
"Ah!" Luo Zheng yelled as he plunged downwards.
The Wolf King noticed Luo Zheng jumping from the aircraft, but with the door open and the air rushing in, the helicopter shook violently. He had to stabilize the aircraft first. Once the two n at the back steadied themselves, they also wanted to jump and pursue, but the Wolf King stopped them. At his gesture, they closed the cabin door, cutting out the swath of cold air and noise. The Wolf King, his face ashen, glanced downward and said, "Useless fools, forget it, don't chase after him. The snow mountain below is deserted; it's negative fifty or sixty degrees down there. Without any equipnt, he's as good as dead."
The two n looked outside, their faces burning with sha and eyes filled with hatred.
