As the Secretary of the Political and Legal Committee and the Director of the County Public Security Bureau, An Haisheng was a retired serviceman who had climbed up from criminal investigation step by step. He was an old cop with professionalism, technical skills, and a good character. He had earned nurous rits, but with no one above him supporting, he had been stuck in the sa position for over a decade, without further ambitions, just waiting for retirent.

However, An Haisheng hadn't expected a murder to occur within his jurisdiction, and it was related to the "Bull Demon King." He despised the "Bull Demon King," but the latter had connections high up and never showed his face directly in any matters. Whenever trouble arose, he would just throw a few underlings under the bus. An Haisheng had no way of dealing with the "Bull Demon King" except to turn a blind eye. After receiving a phone call from a certain leader, the "Bull Demon King" secretly rejoiced but still agreed righteously and gathered over thirty people to rush toward Qinglong Village.

After more than two hours of fast driving, An Haisheng and his team arrived at Qinglong Village. Seeing several Dongfeng trucks parked by the roadside, and two SUVs in front, as a veteran detective, An Haisheng instinctively glanced at the license plates and his face imdiately changed. To ordinary people, these were just regular plates from Beijing, but An Haisheng, with his keen eyes, spotted unusual fonts and sizes. A departnt flashed through his mind, his expression changed, and he loudly ordered, "Put your guns away, no one is to act recklessly after we go up there; follow my commands."

Everyone's expression changed, looking at An Haisheng with confusion. Weren't they supposed to use their guns? Seeing An Haisheng's serious deanor, not seeming to be joking, everyone hesitated for a mont before putting away their weapons. An Haisheng was about to lead the team across the bridge when an SUV roared up to them.

An Haisheng was startled and gestured for everyone to hold their positions. As the SUV drew closer, he saw the license plate, his expression grew more serious. He signaled everyone to step aside to clear the way and went forward to greet it. The SUV parked, and a man in his fifties, dressed in a business suit—a very official-looking figure—stepped out. An Haisheng quickly approached and saluted, saying, "Director, how co you're personally directing this?"

"It's not that I don't trust you, but as the official in charge, with such a big incident, I must appear on the scene. Let's proceed, arrest all those who conducted the assault and bring them with us," the leader said calmly, his tone full of officialdom, and his words ambiguous. Who was the assaulter? Who was the victim? That was for the subordinates to figure out, so if anything went wrong, he could clear himself of all bla.

An Haisheng knew about the relationship between the leader and the "Bull Demon King." He could read between the lines, understanding that the purpose of the leader's presence was to supervise him, which felt like being pushed into a fire pit. He was enraged inside, yet his expression remained unchanged as he replied, "Yes, the task will be completed."

Saying this, An Haisheng led the team across the bridge to the central square of the village, where nearly a hundred people were tied up, almost half of them injured. Those uninjured were terrified, looking vacantly at the void, their expressions downcast. He couldn't help but feel relieved. Checking out a few young n standing up front with straight postures and a familiar air about them—the air of soldiers—he was taken aback for a mont before realizing and inwardly cursed the "Bull Demon King" for deserving this.

To take down nearly a hundred people unscathed was definitely not sothing an ordinary soldier could achieve. Recalling the license plates he saw earlier, An Haisheng didn't imdiately order an arrest but instead signaled his n to halt and approached Luo Zheng, cautiously asking, "I am An Haisheng, the Director of the County Public Security Bureau. What's happened here?"

"Director An, quick, arrest these bastards. We ca here for sightseeing and didn't expect them to start killing and even have firearms," the "Bull Demon King" said, feeling imnsely relieved to see the police arriving, struggling to stand and shouting excitedly, taking the opportunity to accuse first.

An Haisheng calmly looked at the "Bull Demon King," and said indifferently, "I am aware of the situation you've described, but I cannot take only your word."

"Director An, is this how you handle cases? Seeing the culprits and not taking any action, I truly doubt your intentions and capabilities. If you're unsure of how to proceed, then let take over and command personally," the leader approached, saying coldly.

Director An's expression turned solemn as he glanced at the leader, sighed silently, and was about to order the arrest when suddenly his phone rang. Angrily, he pulled it out, saw the number, and his face drastically changed. He quickly answered, respectfully saying, "Hello, this is An Haisheng."

"An Haisheng, such a significant incident has occurred under your watch, how are you even fit to be the director? Are you planning to retire and not act anymore? I warn you, show the tiger spirit you had back then, or don't expect to retire peacefully. What's going on with Qinglong Village? I need an explanation," a commanding voice thundered authoritatively.

"Yes, I am currently at Qinglong Village," An Haisheng quickly responded.

"I've heard that a group of bandits ard with controlled knives attacked Qinglong Village. Is this still the territory of our party? Huh? These people are too audacious and must be severely punished," the authoritative voice roared loudly.

Out of the corner of his eye, An Haisheng glanced at "Bull Demon King" and broke out in a cold sweat. The provincial office was directly questioning this case, and moreover, the implications were in favor of those who had acted violently. It seed he could not cover up the matter and had to take a stand, leaning either towards the leader or his higher superiors—a not-so-difficult choice. He quickly agreed, "Yes, I understand what to do now. Please rest assured, chief."

"I hope you do not disappoint . The Provincial Party Committee is also aware of this issue, and the Organization Departnt is investigating. Perform well, your experience is sufficient, and it's ti to move on," the commanding voice stated encouragingly.

An Haisheng's eyes lit up, and he quickly caught on. The Organization Departnt handles internal affairs; what were they investigating? Glancing unintentionally at the leader, he hesitated no more, responded affirmatively, hung up the phone, and turned to look at Luo Zheng, who had a faint smile. Then, turning sharper, he looked toward "Bull Demon King."

"Director An, I won't make an issue of you making personal calls during work hours, but isn't it ti to deal with official matters?" the leader stated indifferently, his eyes turning colder, pondering sothing.

"It's ti to take action," An Haisheng ambiguously responded, a cold smile appearing on his lips, puffing up his chest as if rediscovering his boldness, and shouted loudly, "Co on, arrest all these people."

"What? You dare to arrest ? Don't you want to get along anymore?" "Bull Demon King" was shocked, looking at An Haisheng coldly, his face incredulous.

The leader also watched An Haisheng with a chilly expression, a hint of confusion flashing in his half-closed eyes. Thinking of the recent phone call, he beca cautious and stepped aside to make a phone call. An Haisheng looked at his subordinates, each showing confusion, none of them making a move. He sighed silently about his long silence, his expression chilled, and commanded, "What, you don't want to work anymore? Anyone who doesn't can get lost."
