Aiming down the sight, Luo Zheng realized that his original target had vanished. He removed his Night Vision Device and quickly located another target using the faint-light aiming scope, which could effectively target enemies within 200 ters. After locking on to the target, his eyes, which had been wide open, narrowed to pinpoints as he concealed his killing intent. Seeing a person nearby fall to the ground with a flashlight in hand, the light flying into the bushes, Luo Zheng knew the squad was in action and swiftly pulled the trigger.
"Phut!" The faint sound of the bullet leaving the suppressor was masked by the rustling of the wind-blown trees, accompanied by a scream, drawing the pursuers' attention, with none of them aware of the attacker's hideout.
"Ratatat!" In a panicked response, the chasers fired wildly into the woods. Pressing himself against a large tree, Luo Zheng made himself as small as possible to minimize his target profile, put on his Night Vision Device to scan the surroundings, made sure there were no pursuers coming up, then quickly took off the device and aid his gun at an enemy wielding a flashlight in front of him. Decisively firing, he saw the target fall through the sniper scope and allowed a cold, cruel smile to spread across his determined face.
He could hear soone shouting sothing, and suddenly all the pursuers turned off their flashlights, plunging the forest into darkness where nothing was visible, and no one fired. Luo Zheng snorted at the enemy's attempt at imposing stillness with stillness, quickly donned his Night Vision Device again, knowing that the gap in equipnt often ant more than just failure — it was a matter of life and death.
In the darkness, Luo Zheng reattached the suppressor to his pistol, and like a ghost, he moved forward stealthily, a silenced pistol in one hand, Tiger Teeth military knife in the other, and the Dragon Tooth Long Sword on his back, which wasn't needed at the mont. Without realizing it, he reached a bush and skillfully crawled underneath, observing calmly from his cover. There were two targets ahead, and three more at either side, all within five or six ters.
After locking on to the targets, Luo Zheng decisively shot at one on the side, killing the target and saw the enemy in front turn around to check; the dim light made it impossible to see clearly. The alerted enemy in front cautiously took two steps to the side, perfectly exposing himself beneath Luo Zheng's barrel. Not missing the rare opportunity, Luo Zheng quickly squeezed the trigger.
"Phut!" The bullet struck the target's forehead, boring a hole through the brow, smashing the brain to pieces without exiting. The man fell back, his eyes wide open, brimming with a reluctance for death, unwilling to depart this world.
At that mont, Luo Zheng sensed soone approaching from behind, and two other enemies from the side also converged on his position. He lay flat on the ground without moving, aiming at one of them, but did not imdiately shoot. Soon enough, one of the enemies approached, just a step away. Considering the two others nearby, Luo Zheng remained still, holding his breath, waiting.
Three enemies, three directions; killing one was easy, but due to the proximity, any action could reveal his position. Then a fusillade could follow, potentially leaving him wounded if not dead. As ti ticked by second by second, Luo Zheng waited patiently, the oppressive atmosphere almost suffocating, as though he could hear his own heartbeat.
Thankfully, the three did not linger long; two moved away carefully in opposite directions while the third remained alert, scanning the area. The dimness offered no clear sight to the naked eye. Luo Zheng, with the help of his Night Vision Device, watched this play out, a smirk spreading across his cold face as he word out of the bushes, a specter in the night.
Erging from the bushes just a ter away from the target, Luo Zheng slowly rose behind him. His icy gaze under the moonlight emitted a deathly chill. Without a sound, he stepped forward, suddenly reaching out to embrace the man, firmly covering his mouth, while the other hand plunged the Tiger Teeth knife decisively, piercing directly into his brain through the temple.
Luo Zheng felt as if he heard the sound of bones scraping, as the Tiger Teeth in his hand crushed the opponent's central nervous system. With a twist, he pulled it out. The hand covering the opponent's mouth did not move, letting the enemy struggle in his embrace. His cold gaze searched the vicinity, and through the Night Vision Device, he spotted two targets erging from behind a large tree twenty ters ahead, cautiously moving forward.
Raising his hand, Luo Zheng fired two shots. With a soft "phut, phut!" two targets were hit—one squarely in the forehead, the other at the back. Startled, the latter's body wobbled, and the bullet missed the forehead by the width of a finger, which failed to instantly destroy the central nervous system. As a result, the brain sent out instinctive counterattack orders, causing the muscles to jerk reflexively and trigger to be pulled.
"Ratatat!" Bullets flew wildly, with several hitting the enemy in Luo Zheng's arms. If it hadn't been for that person blocking the shots, Luo Zheng would have been hit. There were too many sudden accidents on the battlefield, and unexpected events were countless. Due to not hitting the forehead and crushing the central nervous system in ti, the target managed to pull the trigger before dying, almost causing Luo Zheng to be hit by stray bullets, making him break out in a cold sweat.
"Rustle, rustle!" The faint sound of footsteps reached him, and Luo Zheng's ears perked up. After judging the distance and direction, he tossed the corpse in his arms into the bushes and rolled to take cover under a nearby tree. Calmly observing the surroundings, soon, an ard militant rushed over, turning on a flashlight, scanning everywhere.
When the militant saw the corpses on the ground, he quickly turned off the flashlight, hiding behind a nearby tree, not daring to move. Luo Zheng waited a while, saw that the other didn't make a move, gripped his Tiger Teeth combat knife in a reverse grip, and crept forward, covering the short distance of five or six ters in a few steps.
Luo Zheng tiptoed to the side of a large tree, his eyes cold and brimming with a strong desire to fight, sharp and resolute. He took a sidestep, and the person hiding behind the large tree heard sothing and turned pale, turning his head to run away. Luo Zheng, naturally, wouldn't let him escape and lunged forward in a swift stride.
At this point, the militant seed to realize he couldn't escape and, in desperation, he swung the gun around, ready to shoot. Suddenly, a flash of light, eerie and beautiful, like ribbon in the moonlight, followed by the militant feeling a tightness around his neck and a spray of blood spurting out. The intense pain flooded his mind, and almost instinctually, he clutched his neck, forgetting to fire his gun, his eyes filled with terror.
The neck, torn open by the Tiger Teeth, revealed a gaping wound, impossible to cover with his hands. Blood spurted out with the beating of his heart, dripping from his hands—plop, plop—to the ground, staining the clothing over his chest. The horror in the man's eyes gradually faded, and as he stared blankly at the ghost-like disappearing figure of Luo Zheng, he slowly fell forward to the ground, his hand still on his neck, dying with his eyes wide open.
After the kill, Luo Zheng quickly departed without looking back at the enemy he had killed. He hid behind a large tree to calm his pounding heart, observing the surroundings through the Night Vision Device. Suddenly, he heard soone shouting sothing loudly, and people in the surrounding woods turned on their flashlights sparingly, rushing towards the direction of the noise.
