Under the moonlight, the door was gently pushed open, and two dark figures quickly slipped inside, skillfully hiding in the shadows. They calmly surveyed their surroundings, their icy gazes ghost-like in the night. Luo Zheng, using the moonlight streaming in, realized he was in a living room with rooms on either side, their doors tightly shut. He gestured several combat hand signs before drawing his military knife and stealthily approaching one of the doors. Lan Xue, understanding his intent, headed towards another door.
There were militants playing cards loudly on the first floor—it seed those of so rank likely resided on the second floor. With four rooms there, if there were people, they were definitely resting in one of the rooms. Luo Zheng gently pushed on a door; it was bolted from inside. Spotting it was locked with a wooden latch, he couldn't help but feel pleased. Using his Tiger Teeth military knife, he slowly pried it open, gradually shifting the latch until the door quietly creaked open in the still night, an eerie sound in the silence.
After opening the door wide enough for a person to slip through, Luo Zheng paused, listening intently. He heard soone snoring loudly inside, like thunder. With a nimble roll, he entered the room. The moonlight from the window revealed a bed with soone lying on it. Luo Zheng, without a second of hesitation, pounced on them, knocking them out, then quickly grabbed the trousers beside, pulling out the belt and securely tying up the person.
Unsure of the person's identity, Luo Zheng restrained from dealing a deadly blow. He quickly moved outside only to see Lan Xue confidently handling soone from another room. Without hesitation, she moved towards another room, so Luo Zheng quickly approached yet another door, gently pushing. It was also bolted from inside but quickly opened with his Tiger Teeth knife.
Gently pushing the door open, Luo Zheng was surprised to find an old lady lying there, roughly seventy years old, whom he guessed was the mother of the militant warlord. Elated, he rushed in. The elderly lady, a light sleeper, awakened abruptly, shocked by the sudden appearance of the dark figure, and then fainted.
Luo Zheng lowered the hand knife he had raised, acknowledging that the frightened old woman wouldn't wake up soon. He quickly left the room, and seeing Lan Xue also erging, he waved her over and whispered, "What was the situation on your side?"
"Two rooms, two bunk beds in each, four people per room, eight people total, ard, looked like soldiers, all taken care of," Lan Xue whispered back.
Four people in one room clearly weren't key figures—if killed, then killed. Considering the situation almost handled, Luo Zheng surmised the bound man was likely the general's son, and the old lady was his mother. For safety, he spoke in a low voice, "Keep watch on the folks in these two rooms, I'll go check downstairs."
"Understood, be careful," Lan Xue whispered back.
Using the moonlight for visibility, Luo Zheng found the staircase and tiptoed downstairs. The ground floor was shadowy, the main door shut tight, and structured similarly to the upper floor; illuminated rooms indicated people inside, unnecessary for inspection. Reaching a dark room, he pushed the door—it wasn't locked and opened to a kitchen. Luo Zheng then moved to another room, easily opening the door to find it was a storage room.
With four rooms downstairs and two inspected, Luo Zheng cautiously approached another bedroom door and gently pushed. It was empty. Looking towards the brightly lit rooms, although the door was tightly closed, the noise inside was distinctly audible—laughter and sighs, unfortunately indecipherable. Swiftly moving to the door,
Having checked the other rooms—no threats remaining—Luo Zheng took out the captured weapons, touched his earpiece, and sent an attack signal to Ghost Hand, who responded with a light tap on his earpiece. Luo Zheng spoke softly, "Silenced pistol attack."
Opting for surprise over exposure, silence was preferable. Ghost Hand understood perfectly. Luo Zheng drew his carried silenced pistol—ready with a rifle in one hand and the pistol in the other—and kicked the door open. The silenced pistol in his hand fired rapidly.
"Pop, pop, pop!" At just three ters away, and with the aid of lighting, shooting posed no difficulty for Luo Zheng. Every shot hit its target directly in the head, taking down three n in the blink of an eye. The others reacted quickly too, seeking cover, but were killed by Ghost Hand guarding the window.
Caught unprepared, Luo Zheng and Ghost Hand took down most of the ten or so n with a surprise attack. The few remaining n who hadn't even managed to grab their weapons were shot down by Luo Zheng as he burst through the door. The fight ended quickly and decisively. After confirming that all the adversaries were dead, Luo Zheng quickly went out to open the door, and they moved up to the second floor, wrapping the two unconscious n in blankets. Luo Zheng said, "Xue Er, find a way to set this place on fire."
Lan Xue acknowledged and rushed downstairs. Luo Zheng and Ghost Hand, having secured the hostages, hurried down after her and rushed outside. It was silent outside, as if nothing had happened. They waited at the door for a while, and soon Lan Xue ca out and nodded to them both; the three of them then hurried to the river under the cover of night.
They didn't encounter anyone on the way, not even a single vehicle. The surroundings were eerily quiet. They quickly reached the riverbank and contacted Mountain Eagle and Snow Leopard through their headsets. Before long, a light shone on the pitch-black river, and a boat with its motor started approached them.
Everything went smoothly. After waiting a bit, as soon as the boat docked, everyone boarded and they sped away. Mid-river, Snow Leopard, who was steering the boat, asked, "Ghost, where are we heading?"
"Back the way we ca," Luo Zheng replied, "the best is to retreat out of the ard warlord's territory." He glanced coldly at the still unconscious n and chuckled.
"Those bastards kidnapped our people, so we kidnapped theirs... tit for tat, Ghost. You're not thinking of using them to swap for the tour group, are you?" Ghost Hand asked Luo Zheng with a grin.
"What do you think?" Luo Zheng responded, smiling back.
"I think it's possible," Lan Xue laughed. "Only you could pull sothing like this off. We're soldiers and have never done kidnappings, but today is an exception–playing kidnappers for once. But, are you sure the warlords will exchange them?"
"It was a spur-of-the-mont idea, but they'll definitely exchange them unless he has another son," Luo Zheng confidently said. "The warlords aren't the Governnt Army, but a personal militia. The general needs soone to inherit his empire, and his son is the only heir. Inherited succession is very common in our country. As long as we deliver their people, they'll deliver ours."
"Makes sense, but if there's a manipulator behind this, will Black Shadow allow the general to deal with us?" Lan Xue said worriedly. Seeing Luo Zheng's half-smiling face, she quickly realized and said, "Are you saying they'll fight among themselves?"
"Out of self-interest, they're bound to clash. The general probably kidnapped the tour group over so beneficial interests rather than out of enmity. Binding his family, he can only compromise. If Black Shadow disagrees, it will definitely lead to displeasure. So, we'll first hide, then contact that worthless general, and act according to circumstances," Luo Zheng said confidently with a laugh.
