"What's there to fight for?" Luo Zheng watched coldly as the pursuers were about to charge up, his face turned icy as he whispered, "The enemy has already begun attacking the hilltop. We'll circle around from the north, and you must imdiately inform the team defending the west to prepare for battle, deciding the timing of their fire based on the battlefield situation."
"Understood." The Scholar quickly communicated with the others through his headset.
Luo Zheng handed the sniper rifle to the Sniper who had jumped down from the tree, pointed at the advancing enemy, and the Sniper, understanding the situation, nodded, took over the sniper rifle, turned around, and opened fire on the charging enemy. He killed the front pursuers with precision, suppressing the speed of their chase.
Luo Zheng surveyed the terrain around him, and after the Scholar had issued all the commands, he decisively said, "Cover by turns, retreat." Saying this, he rushed in the chosen direction and swiftly covered a few hundred ters. Previously, to save Lan Xue and Ghost Hand, Luo Zheng had dashed out from the woods, further tapping into his potential and invisibly increasing his speed.
The Scholar, astonished at the receding figure of Luo Zheng, could not believe how much faster Luo Zheng had beco after not seeing him for a while, far outpacing his own abilities. He glanced at the Sniper, who was equally shocked, and whispered, "Quick, retreat, pick up the pace, alternate every two hundred ters, don't embarrass ."
"Yes!" the Sniper responded and, clutching his rifle, dashed off. Inspired by Luo Zheng's speed, the Sniper felt his own speed had increased as well, although he wasn't sure if it was an illusion. He ran two hundred ters in one go and quickly found a large tree for cover, then notified the Scholar, who was fiercely shooting at the pursuers, through the headset.
Upon receiving the Sniper's notification, the Scholar naturally did not hesitate to turn and run, reaching his fastest speed ever. The Sniper, a bit surprised, glanced at the Scholar and out of the corner of his eye noticed several pursuers climbing the slope. He quickly aid, focused, cald his breath, and locked onto a target's forehead.
As the rifle's muzzle moved, the Sniper noticed one of the n had a grenade hanging over his chest, swinging as his body wobbled. The Sniper imdiately thought of Luo Zheng's sniping strategy, swiftly shifting his aim to the grenade on the target's chest. With the grenade shaking and the target's running speed, it was hard to aim.
But the Sniper, as if possessed, refused to change his sniping approach. He entered a state of still tranquility, seemingly deaf to any noise around him, with only the irregularly shaking grenade in his sight. His face was calm as water, and his slightly closed eyes shimred with intense combat spirit.
"Swoosh." The Sniper pulled the trigger, and the bullet roared out, carrying all his hopes and commitnts with it. He felt as if his energy had drained away with the bullet, staring blankly at the target, his mind devoid of thought or judgnt.
"Boom!" A loud explosion occurred, the grenade detonated, sending shrapnel flying chaotically, and instantly knocked down everyone nearby, rcilessly claiming their lives.
"Huh?" The Sniper was surprised by the scene and quickly ca to his senses, feeling ecstatic. One thought echoed in his mind, "Hit it, hit it."
"Quick, retreat." A voice erupted in his ear like thunder, jolting the Sniper awake. He shivered, ca to his senses, picked up his rifle, and swiftly retreated. Passing by the Scholar's hiding spot, he heard the Scholar shout, "What are you dazing out for? Are you alright?"
"I'm fine," the Sniper quickly replied, his heart filled with joy. His exceptional performance with that shot had given him confidence and opened up new possibilities for his sniping tactics.
"That shot you took earlier was not bad; you've got so skill, kiddo. Never saw it in you before," Scholar said admiringly.
"Hehe," the Sniper giggled foolishly, unsure how to respond.
"Were you inspired by my squad leader?" Scholar asked.
"The Squad Leader is wise," the Sniper said as he ran.
"Wise my ass, you're quite perceptive, kiddo. Stick close to my squad leader; it might be even more beneficial for you. Whatever you learn depends on you," Scholar cursed jokingly, relieved to see the pursuers hesitating and falling back. He then rushed forward with the Sniper, catching up to Luo Zheng.
The three n charged up the north slope and arrived at the hilltop to find a fierce battle underway. Nearly a hundred ard militants charged desperately; the situation was extrely dire. Fortunately, the slope was not wide enough for their forces to fully deploy, otherwise, they would have been overrun. Luo Zheng reached the summit and ducked behind a rock for cover, calmly surveying the surroundings.
The ard warlords attacked with determination, as if they would not cease until they achieved their goal. Birds scattered in fright in the distance, signaling that more ard militants were rushing to reinforce. The situation was unfavorable for everyone. Retreating could indeed ensure everyone's safety but would also reveal the truth about their divided forces, which could lead to complications later.
"We must hold until nightfall," Luo Zheng thought to himself. He looked up at the sky and then at his wristwatch; it was around four in the afternoon, more than two hours until darkness. Given the enemy's current offensive, he feared they might not hold even for thirty minutes. No choice, there were too many enemies, and their fierce gunfire suppressed their capacity to retaliate effectively.
Scholar was about to lead the Sniper into the battle when Luo Zheng pulled him back. Luo Zheng looked at the blazing bonfire and then at the slope ahead. The slope was covered with dry leaves. Suddenly, an idea struck him, and he shouted, "Quick, get the second squad over here. Find a way to throw the bonfire ahead to create thick smoke. Tell the first squad to hold their ground steadfastly and the Sniper squad to advance twenty ters and take out targets."
"Understood," Scholar responded loudly, imdiately relaying the orders through his headset.
Soon, ten mbers of the second squad rushed over, grabbing the blazing firewood and running to the front lines. Once they reached their position, covered by the first squad's gunfire, they crawled a distance, quickly throwing the firewood ahead, then retreated to grab more burning wood.
The burning firewood quickly ignited the surrounding dry leaves, sending up plus of black smoke. The fire began to spread, and the dense smoke ford a smoke barrier between the opposing sides, obscuring the vision of both. By this ti, the enemy had advanced to within a hundred ters of them.
By now, the Sniper had moved forward and was well-positioned in ambush. He quickly aid ahead where the smoke also blocked the enemy's vision. The enemies, aware of how the smoke had ford, were undeterred and charged fiercely forward. The lead militant charged into the smoke, closing his eyes to push through.
The smoke was not thick, and as the militant estimated leaving the smoky area and opened his eyes, he was horrified to see a black dot speeding towards him, enlarging in his pupils. Before he could react, it felt as if his body was struck and thrown by a speeding train. He flew backward, consciousness swallowed by endless darkness, knowing nothing as his body fell heavily to the ground, his eyes wide open in death.
