Ten minutes later, the battle ended. All the ard militants were killed except for a small patrol team that was out. Luo Zheng didn't chase after the patrol team that slipped through the net, hoping they would pass the ssage along, attracting Kuntai. Watching the wooden hut burning and the dead bodies everywhere, Luo Zheng's face was calm, but there was a hint of satisfaction in his sharp eyes. He considered this battle as a collection of interest.
"Gangzi, Xunzi, Binzi, your three teams are responsible for clearing the battlefield. Everyone else, put in more effort and throw all the burning wooden huts into the valley, burn the poppies in the valley. Yuanzi, take your n to find gasoline, and be careful," Luo Zheng commanded fiercely through the headset.
"Yes." Everyone responded loudly, having had a gratifying kill spree, their admiration for Luo Zheng intensified. They sprang into action, throwing the burning wooden planks into the poppy fields of the valley. So people found gasoline, and they rolled it all into the poppy fields, releasing the gasoline and causing the fire to surge.
Half an hour later, Luo Zheng stood quietly on a hillock, his sharp eyes fixed on the raging inferno that was spreading with the wind. His steadfast face showed no emotion, but inside he was filled with anxiety. It had been more than ten days, and he wondered how Lan Xue was doing? With tens of thousands of troops searching and no one laying prone claiming to have found her, Luo Zheng could only hope nothing had happened.
The towering flas ferociously devoured the poppies ahead, the heatwaves rolling. The moisture in the poppies that hadn't yet caught fire evaporated instantly, wilting them, and once hit by the flas, they ignited imdiately. With the fire positioned upwind, the flas grew with the help of the breeze, spreading rapidly forward and sending thick smoke billowing into the sky.
"This is excellent, Captain. How many drugs will this fire burn? How many people will be spared from harm? It's an imasurable rit. Ti is running out, isn't it?" Zhou Gang ca over and whispered a reminder.
"Right. There's a gorge we passed on the way here. Have the troops quickly take positions for an ambush on both sides of the gorge," Luo Zheng collected his scattered thoughts and promptly issued the combat order. The team received the order and moved quickly, retracing their steps and marching at a swift pace.
Half an hour later, the team arrived at the gorge and split into two, burrowing into the woodlands on either side of the gorge to set up an ambush. They moved as agilely as wild wolves, and in the blink of an eye, they had all concealed themselves, becoming nearly impossible to find. Luo Zheng sat down heavily behind a large tree and, seeing Shi Qingshan approaching, motioned for him to sit nearby before speaking softly, "Your n are well-trained, aren't they? They seem quite adept at jungle warfare."
"Yes. Due to the need of our defensive zone and combat missions, our primary training has been in jungle warfare, while mountain, grassland, snowy mountain, and urban special operations are relatively weak and need strengthening," Shi Qingshan replied politely, having witnessed Luo Zheng's capabilities and not daring to be the slightest bit arrogant.
"You're being modest," Luo Zheng smiled and said.
"Gangzi and the others, they're your old subordinates, right?" Shi Qingshan asked curiously, and when he saw Luo Zheng nod, he continued, "It's clear they are still novices, perhaps lacking experience and their other military skills are quite standard, but their shooting skills and speed are very impressive. I noticed that all five team leaders are snipers. Since they are your subordinates, are you a sniper too?"
"Hmm," Luo Zheng nodded noncommittally. A team led by snipers would naturally be strong in shooting, and as for speed, Captain Li had promoted his own extre training thod, so of course they wouldn't be slow. But not wanting to dwell on this topic, he ordered, "Send a command down the line: without my order, nobody fires a shot."
"Yes," Shi Qingshan acknowledged, relaying the command through the headset.
After a while, Shi Qingshan glanced at Luo Zheng, who was resting with his eyes closed, and suddenly asked in a low voice, "How do you plan to fight this battle? Should we prepare in advance?" However, he was extrely curious. In several battles, they just set a general direction and responded on the spot. This ability to improvise was terrifying. What would happen this ti?
Luo Zheng slowly opened his eyes, looked at the sun hanging high in the sky, and squinted from the scorching sunlight as if it wanted to roast the entire earth. Thankfully, the dense foliage provided so shade so that everyone hiding in the woods wasn't too hot. The cicadas were desperately chirping, stirring restlessness in the air, and the birds had already flown away due to the large number of people lying in wait. Luo Zheng exhaled and said slowly, "The enemy's numbers are unknown, their equipnt is unknown, their marching formation is unknown, any preparation is unnecessary, let's just wait and see."
"That's true," Shi Qingshan understood these principles, and his question was sparked by curiosity. He picked a blade of grass, started chewing on it, and pondered while looking at the valley below. Ti slipped away minute by minute as everyone waited in silence and patience.
As dusk approached and everyone had just had their fill of food and drink, the scouts sent a ssage—an enemy convoy was approaching. Luo Zheng suddenly opened his eyes, a sharp glint flashing in the tiger-like eyes, quickly stood up, and rushed to a mound. Overlooking the scene, the lush valley was densely wooded and the dirt road in the middle was empty, with heatwaves rolling and unnerving the onlookers. There were no people in sight yet, indicating they had not arrived.
"Hand the sniper rifle," Luo Zheng called out to a sniper positioned not far away.
The Sniper handed over the rifle and Luo Zheng raised it to his shoulder, focusing on the dirt road. Soon, a convoy appeared in the sniper scope. Luo Zheng quickly recalled the information he had previously seen, a picture of Kuntai surfacing in his mind, as he scrutinized the convoy intently.
As a local warlord, Kuntai's photo was archived in many governnt intelligence agencies, including National Blade. Luo Zheng carefully distinguished the individuals in the convoy, knowing that soone with Kuntai's status wouldn't be squeezed into the carriage with others but was most likely to be in the driver's cab. He first checked the lead vehicle and didn't spot any notable figures. Then he glanced at the convoy, spanning ten vehicles with canvases hiding the interiors, but Luo Zheng guessed they were carrying people.
Estimating thirty people per transport, that sumd up to three hundred across the ten vehicles, which was not a number they could easily take down. Luo Zheng did not issue an attack command and continued scrutinizing the second vehicle, still finding no suspicious individuals. The fourth and fifth passed without any suspicious targets either. Could it be that he hadn't co?
Just then, Shi Qingshan's voice ca through the headset, asking whether to attack or not; it was ti to decide. After thinking for a mont, Luo Zheng gestured to everyone not to open fire, to let this convoy pass for now. There was no end to Kuntai's n; their mission was to eliminate Kuntai himself and to rescue hostages, not to kill all of Kuntai's underlings.
Everyone was curious, but they still carried out Luo Zheng's order firmly, with no one firing a shot, waiting in silence until the entire convoy had passed. Luo Zheng still did not spot Kuntai, his expression darkened, and his brows furrowed tightly. Shi Qingshan ran over, looked at Luo Zheng in surprise, and couldn't understand what Luo Zheng was planning.
