After safely returning to the base, Luo Zheng and Lan Xue were admitted to the treatnt center. The military doctor, Wu Miao, seeing the two return in a sorry state but with content expressions, felt both envy and happiness for them. Though a hint of pain lingered in his heart, he quickly adjusted his emotions and organized the dical team to conduct a thorough examination and treatnt of Luo Zheng and Lan Xue.
Lan Xue's injuries turned out to be much lighter. Luo Zheng had three broken ribs and significant cell necrosis with insufficient nutrient uptake; he needed to rest in the treatnt center for about a month. At this conclusion, Wu Jin secretly breathed a sigh of relief. He strictly ordered the two not to leave the hospital during their treatnt and hurriedly went to inform Mr. Li that they were safe.
Luo Zheng had gained clarity on many things, and his mindset had beco very calm. He was no longer in a hurry to train and improve his strength and took the opportunity to rest. However, he requested to share a room with Lan Xue, a request that was understood and supported by Wu Miao. With his lover by his side, Luo Zheng was indifferent and inquired about the injuries of Ghost Hand and the others. He learned that the three were still being treated, all having suffered various degrees of gunshot wounds, and were not allowed to leave the hospital for two months either.
Therefore, Luo Zheng simply applied for a large hospital room with five beds so everyone could lay together, fostering a joyous atmosphere. Wu Jin, knowing everyone's feelings, readily approved the request.
During the healing period, Luo Zheng asked Wu Jin to arrange for espionage and language instructors to train him. Several missions had made him realize the importance of language. Espionage was more about sharing experiences and didn't require physical training. He could train while lying in bed without delaying his healing.
Ti unconsciously passed, and a month later, everyone's physical condition had basically recovered enough to start rehabilitative training. However, Luo Zheng was not in a hurry. He continued training in language and spy skills, inadvertently spending another month in the hospital before being discharged. Wu Miao, ever curious, could not understand why Luo Zheng, who usually cherished ti like life itself, did not train intensely as before but instead lay quietly in bed.
Wu Miao did not understand the concept of a necessary break, but Luo Zheng was well aware. He knew his physical condition had reached a bottleneck, where forced training would not bring any improvent but could potentially cause hidden ailnts. Therefore, Luo Zheng took the opportunity to rest thoroughly for two months, allowing his body to fully recover and build up enough nutrients.
Two months later, Luo Zheng began normal training, starting with extre training. During the training process, Luo Zheng keenly noticed improvents in his speed, endurance, strength, and shooting skills. His physical condition was also better than ever, which brought him great joy.
Ghost Hand and others were also discharged, and the squad mbers could train together again. Enjoying these days without worries and training quietly was truly wonderful. Only those who've experienced life and death could understand this profound sense of happiness in being alive.
Two months later, Luo Zheng had essentially mastered the Japanese language and could communicate normally. Regarding spy skills, the instructor had nothing more to teach and declared Luo Zheng's training complete before packing up and leaving. This progress made Luo Zheng very happy, as the past months had not been in vain.
One day, Luo Zheng called ho to check in. His family asked if he would return ho as the Spring Festival was approaching. Only then did Luo Zheng realize how quickly ti had passed. More than four months of tranquil life had greatly restored his condition, and all his injuries had completely healed. Thinking of his promise with Lan Xue, they both approached Captain Wu, who did not object and promptly granted both their squads a one-month leave to go ho for the festival.
With the holiday granted, everyone was excited. After packing up, they left the base by night in a transport helicopter. Hours later, they arrived back in Beijing, around three in the morning, and checked into a hotel to stay the night. The next morning, everyone went ho.
This leave, Captain Wu spontaneously gave everyone thirty thousand yuan as a reward for their missions. Luo Zheng withdrew twenty thousand from the bank and went to the shopping center to buy a plethora of gifts—clothes, shoes, computers, phones, and more—then carried them back to where he was staying.
Looking at the familiar door, Luo Zheng felt the warmth of ho. It was good to be alive. He quickly composed himself and was just about to knock when the door opened from the inside. His little sister ca out to take out the trash and, seeing Luo Zheng, exclaid in surprise, "Brother?" Then she shouted, "Mom, Dad, Brother's back."
"Little Houtou's back?" Luo Zheng's parents rushed out of their room, surprised. His little sister opened the door, joyfully welcod Luo Zheng ho, helped him with the gifts, and quickly ran to throw the trash at the fire escape, then hurried back. She sat near Luo Zheng and looked him up and down.
"What's wrong?" Luo Zheng was chatting with his parents when he noticed his little sister staring at him and asked uneasily.
"Oh, nothing. Brother, you've beco much more handso than before," his sister said with a giggly smile.
Luo Zheng gave a sheepish smile while Luo Hu, standing nearby, also comnted with a sigh, "The aura about you has quieted a lot."
"Is that so?" Luo Zheng suddenly rembered his father's advice, knowing his father was referring to a killing aura. In front of his mother and sister, it wasn't appropriate to speak plainly. Recalling the peaceful months he recently had, he smiled and said, "That's good, don't worry, Dad, I'm fine."
"That's good to hear. We don't understand the outside matters, everything is up to you," Luo Hu responded.
Having lived with Luo Hu for so many years, Mrs. Luo had a vague guess about what Luo Hu was hinting at, but with the little sister there, it wasn't a good ti to ask too many questions. Since Luo Hu did not probe further, she couldn't be bothered to ask more either. As long as Luo Zheng was fine, nothing else mattered. She smiled and asked, "What about our daughter-in-law?"
"Yeah, where's the sister-in-law?" his sister asked eagerly with a giggle.
"She went back to her parents' ho first and will co over for dinner tonight," Luo Zheng replied with a smile.
"Oh, you kid, why didn't you say so sooner? "Sis, let's go buy so groceries. Old man, you clean up the house. Look how ssy it is," Mrs. Luo exclaid with joy, taking on a hostess's air and quickly delegating tasks.
Luo Zheng glanced around the room, everything was tidy and in order, not a speck of dust in sight. How could it be ssy? But seeing his mother all fired up to go out, Luo Zheng didn't say anything more. He quietly watched this scene, feeling the warmth of ho, until his mother and sister left. Then he seriously said, "Dad, is everything okay at ho?"
"All is well. A person who calls himself Little Dao cos by once a week, always brings gifts, very polite, and has settled quite a few troubleso matters for us. I didn't accept the gifts. It is clear that he's involved in so shady activities, but he has no ill intentions towards us; rather, he seems to deliberately try to ingratiate himself. I don't care who he is or what's your relationship with him. Just rember one thing—you can be acquainted with such people, but never collaborate deeply," Luo Hu earnestly advised.
