"Ambush the camp? We don't have anything valuable to pin on the people at the training camp, is that appropriate? Didn't we say we'd go check out the training camp first before deciding?" Lan Xue looked at Luo Zheng in surprise, unable to understand why he had changed the combat plan again. The others, too, heard Lan Xue's words through their earpieces and stopped, all turning to Luo Zheng with curious expressions on their faces.
"It would be great to have sothing to fra them with, but we might not find anything. Going back and forth wastes ti and opportunities. So, I think we might as well take action directly, hit and run. Arctic Bear won't be able to figure out who it was and will definitely send troops to chase us. Then we head toward the Terrorist Organization's training camp and look for an opportunity to stir things up. It's hard to say if it will work, but as the saying goes, 'Man proposes, God disposes'," Luo Zheng explained.
"Fine, if you think it's feasible, just do it," Lan Xue said indifferently, glancing at everyone. The others nodded in agreent, turned around, and continued on their way.
As they moved on, their pace was not fast. They followed the Arctic Bear Country's military forces, stopping and starting as they did. Before they knew it, night had fallen. Seeing that the Arctic Bear Country's forces were setting up camp right there, they too camped nearby, donned Night Vision Devices, and quietly waited in the woods, like ghosts in the night.
The Arctic Bear Country's military forces were right ahead, so of course, they couldn't light a fire. They could only eat so dry food to stave off hunger. More than two hours later, Mountain Eagle, who was on sentry duty, reported that another troop was arriving to join up, about a platoon in size. Luo Zheng was startled and, after signaling everyone to stay put, he crept forward himself, hiding behind a large tree on a mountainside to observe. Indeed, he saw that an open area below was now crowded with many more people. Several campfires were lit, and a group of people seed to be talking and laughing intimately.
"Brother, I feel sothing odd about this bunch," Mountain Eagle said, coming over in a few swift moves, concealed nearby and whispering. He held his sniper rifle level, his expression serious and frosty, tinged with worry.
"What's wrong?" Luo Zheng asked in a hushed tone, his gaze fixed intently on the group ahead, growing suspicious.
Their voices clearly transmitted to everyone via the earpieces, and imdiately everyone beca more alert, straining their ears and covering their earpieces, fearful of missing a single word. They slowly spread out, bending at the waist, forming a circular defense like they were facing a formidable enemy.
"I can't put my finger on it; just feels off. Look, that bunch is moving too slowly; it's not logical. And then, to have soone co et up with them—it's also illogical. Amidst the vast woods, each on patrol, how could they suddenly bump into each other? I'm worried that it's a trap that they are setting for us to follow, with so other snare waiting ahead," Mountain Eagle said, his voice still low.
"What do you think their reason is for the reinforcents?" Luo Zheng asked, his curiosity piqued.
"I don't know. It might be because they're worried about us taking out this troop, so they sent extra people," Mountain Eagle explained in a low voice. After waiting a mont and seeing that Luo Zheng didn't respond, he continued, "Listen, their laughter seems fake, forced. Clearly, it's a performance, deliberately acting unaware to stabilize us, perhaps so more troops can surround us. They're just bait."
Hiss?" Luo Zheng listened carefully for a while and also noticed sothing peculiar about the group ahead—not just their laughter, but their conversation seed off as well, talking as if they wanted to make sure their presence was known. In the dark woods, who would talk so loudly? Luo Zheng beca more cautious.
At that mont, Lan Xue also quietly approached, gazing intently at the enemy camp ahead. After observing for a mont, she spoke in a low, cold voice, her expression turning frosty, "Not good, we've overlooked an issue. Arctic Bear Country has many spy satellites and military satellites, and their information warfare capability is very strong. They may have already discovered our movents through satellites, deliberately using this troop to lead us on while pulling in more personnel for an encirclent."
Luo Zheng shivered at the realization, breaking out into a cold sweat. Annoyed with himself for overlooking sothing as crucial as satellite surveillance, he wished he could slap himself. Yet, regret solved nothing; Luo Zheng quickly began to consider their next move.
"We should retreat," Lan Xue whispered urgently.
"We must retreat, but not so easily. Everyone, fall back to the camp we just left," Luo Zheng whispered back with a stern face, turning his gun around and quickly crouching to retreat.
They regrouped at the previous rest camp with everyone looking sullen. After following their quarry all day, to have been played for fools was exasperating. "It's my fault for being careless and underestimating the informational warfare capabilities of Arctic Bear Country. There's a high chance that we've been exposed. We can't stay for long, but before we leave, we won't let those people get off so easily," Luo Zheng said in frustration.
"What do you have in mind?" Snow Leopard asked curiously.
"It's possible that the enemy will attack tonight, and they will definitely co here. Let's set so traps. Even if we're leaving, we should give our opponents so 'gifts,' right?" Luo Zheng spoke coldly, unable to stomach the thought that they had been outwitted by the enemy all day long.
Upon hearing this, no one objected. They each took out button tirs from their backpacks and started sticking them under the trees while tearing so apart to coat with vines. When the vines were stretched, they ford tripwires so that if soone tripped them, the force of the tear would pull the wires apart, and the bombs would explode after a few seconds' delay.
Ten minutes later, after the preparations were complete, Luo Zheng surveyed the surroundings. He gathered five large rocks, laying dry grass over them to make them look from above like people burying their heads in sleep. Five rocks for five n—the number was right. Whether this would deceive the enemy was uncertain, but everything that needed to be done was done. Everyone looked to Luo Zheng.
Luo Zheng scanned the area and said coldly, "Since we've been exposed, we'll march to the enemy's camp overnight. Spread out as we move. Even if the satellite picks us up, it might mistake us for wild animals in the forest. The rendezvous point will be here." He took out a GPS, and they confird a coordinate together.
Ghost Hand, Snow Leopard, and Mountain Eagle dispersed in different directions, vanishing into the night. Lan Xue gazed deeply at Luo Zheng, tenderly cautioning, "Are you planning to stay behind covertly to observe? Whatever you decide to do, I support you. However, I hope you can arrive at the designated coordinates on ti. I'm leaving now. Take care."
"Yeah, you too," Luo Zheng urged seriously, watching as Lan Xue dashed into the forest like a leopard, soon out of sight. Luo Zheng packed up his belongings, slung them on his back, put on his Night Vision Device, and scanned his surroundings before quickly approaching a large tree.
The tree was over thirty ters tall with a dense canopy that shaded the sun, making it difficult to spot soone concealed above. Luo Zheng stayed to confirm what this team would do after discovering their departure since it would affect their further tactical movents. Not daring to let his guard down, he swiftly climbed to the top of the tree and hid himself.
