This was a pair of emotionless eyes, indifferent, chilly, like those of the Hell Death God. As Luo Zheng and others erged, the eyes remained unchanged, slowly pushing forward a sniper rifle, setting it up without imdiately firing. Silently, he aid, surveying each person, while large beads of sweat rolled from his forehead, past his eyebrows, soaking his eyes.
The stinging sweat made it difficult to keep his eyes open, yet he did not blink once, still focusing ahead. In the setting sun, he was like a wooden figure—motionless. A venomous scorpion slowly crawled over, onto the person, up his neck, and onto his head, looking around curiously.
The scorpion then slowly made its way down the man's ear. His facial muscles didn't twitch; his gaze stayed fixed ahead, motionless as though he were already dead. The scorpion, captivated, crept across his face, reaching his mouth.
"Huff!" The man suddenly blew out a breath of air, sending the scorpion, thick as a thumb, flying a ter away. It hit the ground, scurrying off into the desert, disappearing without a trace. anwhile, the man continued to stare ahead, unmoving—as if nothing had happened.
"Five hundred ters, four hundred ters, three hundred ters..." The man watched the approaching team with a cold gaze, his whole being blending in with the surroundings, hiding any sign of murderous intent. In his mind, he was silently calculating the distance. When the lead target was two hundred ters away, he casually pulled the trigger, executing a perfect kill without releasing a hint of murderous aura.
"Whiz!" The sniper bullet whistled through the air, breaking the silence of the vast sand, bringing a strange, ominous presence to the empty desert. As the target fell and the others quickly took cover behind sand dunes, he remained casual, motionless, waiting for his mont—detached, as if all of this was unrelated to him.
When Luo Zheng and the others heard the sniper rifle, they were imdiately shocked, quickly dropping to cover and frantically searching the surroundings. They had not expected an ambush from a Sniper here. Luo Zheng urgently called to Mountain Eagle, who was leading the way, through the headset: "Brother Mountain Eagle, how are you? Respond."
"I've been shot," ca a pained voice softly through the headset. It was Mountain Eagle.
"Damn it, is it serious?" Ghost Hand urgently asked, his face angry.
"I'm okay. The shooter is a professional. He didn't reveal his position, chose to target my thigh intending to wound , to draw you out for a rescue, then pick you off one by one. Everyone, don't move," Mountain Eagle quickly said, interspersing his speech with convincing groans of pain.
"How's the injury?" Lan Xue asked with concern, wanting to dash over the concealnt of the sand dunes to check but was held back by Luo Zheng. With the enemy's location unknown, rash action was tantamount to suicide.
"The sniper bullet was blocked by the body armor, but the impact was great. Fortunately, it didn't hit the femur, just the muscle. I can't walk for the mont—I'm pretending to be in pain to confuse the enemy. They set a trap, wounding to provoke you into making a mistake. How could I not play along? Ah—!" Mountain Eagle quickly explained in a low voice, finishing with a convincingly agonized scream.
"Kid, it's good you're okay, keep playing dead, but don't overdo it. Just wait, we'll figure out a way to rescue you as soon as possible," Ghost Hand said anxiously, glancing at Luo Zheng before continuing, "The enemy ca out of nowhere, must have been waiting for us ahead. To be able to lie in wait in this heat, they have to be an expert, and I can't pinpoint their location."
"That's exactly the problem," Luo Zheng said, his face grave as he searched for any suspicious locations, "I've always been able to rely on my sharp sixth sense to detect danger in advance, like the sudden onset of unease, as a sign. This ti, however, I haven't felt anything, and I have no clue where the enemy could be hiding after they fired. This is alarming," he said, turning to look at Lan Xue.
Lan Xue, with her superior sniping skills and more abundant experience, surveyed the surroundings and pricked up her ears, deeply pondering the peril around them, yet she found nothing. Her expression turned ice-cold as she said tersely, "They're an expert, probably more skilled than both of us and who knows how many there are. Everybody, be careful."
"I'm going to rescue Brother Mountain Eagle," Ghost Hand blurted out urgently.
"No, if you go out there, you'll fall right into the enemy's trap and beco a live target. There aren't many positions the enemy could use to snipe from. Let's all fall back and see if we can flank from both sides. I'll hold here," Luo Zheng said quickly, grabbing Ghost Hand who was ready to rush out to save their comrade.
"Don't rush, the enemy wants all of us, not just Brother Mountain Eagle. As long as we don't go out there, Brother Mountain Eagle will be safe for now. Let's think of a plan," Lan Xue said coldly, her expression detached as she started checking her weapons, loading her sniper bullet, her whole body radiating a chilling aura of death.
"Do you all rember the ti we fought Arctic Bear?" Luo Zheng suddenly said, and when everyone looked at him, he continued, "Back then, one of the Arctic Bear warriors was injured by Brother Mountain Eagle. Arctic Bear didn't imdiately organize a rescue; instead, they calmly sent soone to flank from the rear. We could use this sa tactic. Everyone, stay calm. I'll go around to the back while you all draw the enemy's attention here and try to take control of the surrounding high ground, causing them trouble, but don't engage."
"Okay, just be careful," Lan Xue agreed, pointing to the terrain and adding, "To flank them, we'll have to cross that open area. The enemy is an expert at grasping and utilizing terrain, and it will take so ti to get past that distance, enough ti for the enemy to fire two shots. Without crossing that open space, we can't pose a threat. Even with covering fire, you'll have only three seconds, and that isn't enough to make it across, right?"
Luo Zheng looked at the open stretch, roughly twenty-five ters away, and after silently calculating the speed, said with a steely face, "It's worth a shot. You all spread out, climb up the dunes to hide. Ghost Hand, shoot randomly at suspicious places for cover fire. Xue Er, Snow Leopard, you two keep a close watch, and don't fire rashly. As long as you don't shoot, even if the enemy spots , they won't dare to take a shot easily. If the enemy hesitates even for one second, I'm confident I can dash across that open stretch."
"Understood, be careful," Lan Xue nodded in comprehension and cautioned.
Luo Zheng acknowledged, quickly retreated to hide, and then looked back to see the others had already climbed up the dunes to lie in ambush. Suddenly, a burst of gunfire sounded, and through the earpiece ca Lan Xue's alert to "Run," Luo Zheng knew everyone had sprung into action. Without a mont's delay, he powered up his legs and burst forward at breakneck speed, like a cannonball shot from its chamber. In front of an expert, Luo Zheng didn't dare be the slightest bit complacent and pushed his speed to the limit.
