The man's stern gaze fixed on the distance ahead, and soon he noticed a helt propped up on an SVD sniper rifle. The fine sand beneath the helt was sowhat disturbed, as if soone had been there. The helt had been propped up for a while now, and just as he had originally suspected, it was rely a decoy; there was no one there. A few ters away lay a suspected target, covered in a Jili camouflage suit. Although such a suit was not ideal for desert camouflage, it still provided a degree of concealnt.
Behind the barren sand dunes, the situation was clear at a glance. The only possible hiding spot was beneath the Jili suit. The man watched the covered area coldly, slowly extending his gun and aiming. It seed like he was performing a trivial task, his facial expression unchanged, no hint of murderous intent leaking out. Swiftly, the man fired a shot, sudden and indifferent.
"Whoosh!" The bullet hit the Jili suit, but not the splash of blood or screams he expected.
"Whoosh!" Another sniper rifle shot, just as abrupt, without warning, and utterly devastating.
After firing, the man instantly realized sothing was wrong. His indifferent eyes suddenly widened, flashing with incredulity, his once unchanging expression losing its confidence and nonchalance, becoming terrified. His pale face, mouth agape, and in his pupils, a black dot rapidly enlarged, unavoidable.
"Pfft!" The sniper bullet quickly burrowed into the man's forehead, tearing open a gap, spurting a streak of blood. The bullet's kinetic energy savagely drilled into his skull, altering its trajectory upon eting resistance, starting to spin rapidly and turning the brain into a mushy stew. It broke through the back of the skull and ca bursting out.
At a re thirty ters, this distance was nothing to a sniper rifle—instant headshot. For Luo Zheng, there was no chance of a misfire. After shooting, Luo Zheng didn't have ti to check the result. He sprang up from the scorching sand and quickly tore off his clothes, patting the hot sand off his body, wincing from the burn.
"What happened?" Lan Xue asked anxiously.
"Ouch, ouch!" Luo Zheng winced in pain. He had persisted solely on willpower until now, but once he let down his guard, the pain nearly made him faint. Without waiting to answer Lan Xue, he dashed to the backpack, opened the water bottle, and poured it over his head, cooling down his face and body.
"Mountain Eagle, go check it out. Everyone else, stand by and be cautious of our surroundings," Lan Xue commanded urgently, not knowing what had transpired.
"Yes." Everyone was just as clueless about the incident, quickly complying. Mountain Eagle sprang up and ran towards the direction where Luo Zheng was groaning in pain.
Soon, Mountain Eagle reached the top of a sand dune and spotted Luo Zheng franticly shedding his clothes like a madman. Shocked, he rushed over, shouting, "What happened?"
Everyone, hearing Mountain Eagle's anxious cries, grew tense. With the enemy's whereabouts unknown and their condition uncertain, they dared not move. They all pricked up their ears, listening for sounds through the earpiece, while vigilantly scanning their surroundings.
"Co here quickly and give the water," Luo Zheng called out desperately, seeing Mountain Eagle approach. He continued to kick off his shoes, standing barefoot on the Jili suit to avoid being burned by the scorching sand.
Mountain Eagle ran towards him swiftly, eyeing the enemy who had been shot in the head not far away. He hurried over and handed the water bottle to Luo Zheng, who noticed Mountain Eagle's limping gait and realized the injury on his thigh from a previous attack was serious. Without ti for questions, he poured the remaining water on his head to cool down his body.
"The target is dead, Ghost seems to have been scalded by the fine sand, but it's not serious—don't worry," Mountain Eagle quickly said through the headset, trying to alleviate everyone's concern while sizing up Luo Zheng with a look of surprise and asked, "Younger brother, what exactly happened?"
Luo Zheng, feeling the water refreshing his body, didn't imdiately answer. Instead, he shook the fine sand off his clothes thoroughly before boarding, then shook his trousers clean and put them on, sat on his camouflage suit, and cleaned his shoes and socks. After having put them on, he finally responded through the headset, "Soone, give so water."
"I'll check on that bastard," Mountain Eagle said with a wry smile, rushing to the side of the dead enemy to inspect. Besides an SVD sniper rifle, there were bags of ammunition, several packs of compressed biscuits, and a water canteen. Opening the canteen, he found only half a canteen left, indicating the enemy had been lying in wait for quite so ti.
Mountain Eagle folded back and called out through the headset, "Never mind, I've found so water here, stay concealed." With one enemy exposed, there was no guarantee there wasn't a second. On the battlefield, any negligence could cost lives.
Luo Zheng took the canteen and gulped it down, finishing all the water in it, and only then did he start feeling better. "Hiss? You're ruthless." Mountain Eagle looked in the direction of the helt where indeed, there were traces of soone having laid, taken aback by surprise. The fine sand was forty to fifty degrees Celsius, impossible for anyone to survive underneath it. He had not expected Luo Zheng to co up with such a tactic to counter the enemy—it was incredibly fierce.
"Not burned, are you?" Lan Xue asked in concern upon hearing this.
"Don't worry, Captain, my body is fine, won't affect your future happy life. It's just my face that got a bit burned, handso guy turned into Scarface," Mountain Eagle jested with no small amount of annoyance.
"Then that's good; no one will compete with now," Lan Xue also joked, a rarity for her, and the tense atmosphere previously dominated by the sniper instantly cleared up, as everyone laughed good-naturedly.
Luo Zheng chuckled, ward by Lan Xue's deep concern, glanced at Mountain Eagle, and said, "This sniper rifle is not bad, it's a windfall for you. Did you find anything else on that son of a gun?"
"Nothing else. Judging by the consumption in his water canteen, that guy must have been lurking here for quite so ti. To withstand the high temperatures of the desert, he truly was an expert. However, even at the point of death, he wouldn't have imagined soone could be so ruthless as hide beneath the fine sand to launch a sneak attack," Mountain Eagle remarked with a sigh.

I luckily caught him by surprise with my attack. Brother, you take the left, I'll take the right, let's survey the surrounding terrain and see if there are any more enemies," Luo Zheng said seriously, his expression somber. Thinking back on the pain he just experienced, he was determined never to go through sothing like that again.
"Understood," Mountain Eagle replied, taking the captured SVD sniper rifle and walking off in one direction.
Luo Zheng quickly packed up, only then noticing a hole had been shot through the backpack. Without bothering to check, he stuffed the camouflage suit in, slung the military pack over his shoulders, his expression stern as he picked up his weapon and went off to conduct his search in the other direction.
