The bright moon hid behind the dark clouds, the stars were hard to find, and the desert was covered in a gray haze. Behind a dune, several kiloters away from the desert highway, a small car was parked with a damaged rear end. The desert temperature at three in the morning was already very low. The car's lights were off, and the engine was silent. In the back seat, a man and a woman were huddled together for warmth. It was Luo Zheng and Lan Xue, who had just driven here in a mad dash.

After taking out the assassins, the two had left silicone masks and outer garnts behind, intending to fra the two dead assassins. Whether this tactic would work or not was uncertain. Luo Zheng held Lan Xue in his arms, his mind repeatedly flashing back to the events of the day, from being frad to the police station, to causing chaos there, and finally killing the assassins. Everything seed to carry an unreal feeling.

Lan Xue, holding Luo Zheng's solid body, shifted her position to sleep more comfortably. Blinking her beautiful eyes, she asked, "Hey, do you think our framing tactic will work?"

"Hard to say. We were wearing silicone masks at the police station, so the police never saw our real faces. Once they discover that the assassins we killed were wearing the sa masks, they'll definitely suspect those two were us. This is evident since the police car didn't chase us. However, without the silicone masks, we'll have to show our real faces from now on," Luo Zheng remarked thoughtfully.

"True, if the police can't catch anyone, they'll want to close the case. The best way is to let the assassins take the fall. As long as there's soone to pin it on, everything will be fine. Otherwise, if this blows up, soone will definitely be in trouble," Lan Xue said softly.

"You an the mastermind? I suspect there's a higher-up in the police assisting the mastermind against . Closing the case would be beneficial for everyone; at least the collaborating cop won't be exposed. However, they'll definitely investigate us in secret, so we need new identities; otherwise, it'll be impossible to move forward," Luo Zheng said with frustration.

"It's not that difficult. Although Grandfather said there's no support, getting silicone masks and new docunts shouldn't be hard, especially with that consulate assistant. I suspect he has issues. Hold on, I'll call Grandfather," Lan Xue said, getting up from Luo Zheng's embrace and reaching for the phone.

It wasn't long before she got through. Lan Xue explained everything that had happened in detail and listened for a while before hanging up, then snuggled back into Luo Zheng's arms, lying comfortably and saying, "Grandfather said he'll imdiately arrange for an investigation. Also, he wants us to discreetly enter the consulate, find the consul general, and have him provide assistance. Grandfather will make arrangents."

"Really? I bet there's turmoil in the Gambling City by now, with police everywhere. It's probably not a good ti to go," Luo Zheng said with a calm face, pondering their next move.

"Don't worry; no one has seen our current faces anyway. It's just that we don't have matching docunts, which is problematic. Moreover, we must destroy our current IDs imdiately," Lan Xue whispered.

"Alright, how about we set off now? The Gambling City is huge, and there are entrances everywhere; we don't have to take the highway. Just find an entry point and act according to the circumstances," Luo Zheng suggested.

Lan Xue thought for a mont, finding it feasible. If they waited until daylight to act, it might be easier to get exposed. She agreed, and the two got up and left the car. Luo Zheng erased their traces from the vehicle and was cautious about not igniting the gas tank, which would surely attract the police.

After ensuring there were no fingerprints left on the car, the two jogged toward the Gambling City. An hour later, they stopped to rest behind a dune, took out a lighter to burn their passports, destroyed other docunts too, buried them in a deep pit, rested for a while, and continued jogging forward.

Another hour passed, and the sky was beginning to brighten. They reached the outskirts of the Gambling City and saw roadblocks and flashing police lights on the road. They quickly detoured, leaving the road behind and heading toward the city in a direction without roads. The city was built in the desert, wide open, with many entrances to the city and a vast area. The police had limited personnel, blocking the major roads was already a feat; covering everything was impossible.

The two entered the city through a residential area and walked down the main road. Soon, a taxi drove by. They hailed it, got in, and gave the consulate address. The driver, noticing they were of Asian descent, didn't suspect anything and drove off.

On the way, the taxi driver chatted casually, cursing the police for being useless, setting up checkpoints everywhere, not knowing what they're doing. Seeing that the two remained silent, the driver lost interest in talking. Perhaps it was because it was around five in the morning, there were no pedestrians on the streets, only a few passing cars, yet the hotels were lit with neon lights, a bustling scene.

After a while, a checkpoint suddenly appeared ahead. Several police cars were parked across the road, with a cordon set up. The taxi driver started complaining again, grumbling endlessly. Luo Zheng felt irritated. Getting off here was not an option; it would expose them. Seeing Lan Xue calmly watching the front, he too cald down and quickly thought of a way to escape.

Soon, the taxi reached the checkpoint. A police officer ca forward to check. Luo Zheng quickly rolled down the window, explaining in a panicked tone, "Officer, we're consulate staff. We were out on duty and got robbed, all our IDs are gone."

"Oh? What did they look like?" The police officer asked warily while looking at Luo Zheng.

Luo Zheng simply described the assassins' appearance. The officer's suspicion wasn't dispelled; he continued questioning vigilantly, "What are your nas?"

"Ah? My head hurts," Lan Xue suddenly shouted, diving into Luo Zheng's arms, appearing frightened.

Of course, Luo Zheng wouldn't reveal their nas, not even fake ones, or they'd risk exposure. Seeing Lan Xue like this, he imdiately got the hint, quickly saying, "My colleague got hit in the head and needs imdiate treatnt. Please contact the consulate right away. If possible, arrange for a vehicle to take us there. We're begging you."

Lan Xue cooperatively groaned a few tis, acting severely injured. The officer thought for a mont, realizing that if they truly were consulate staff, delaying treatnt could have serious consequences, possibly leading to a diplomatic incident he couldn't afford to handle. However, fearing they might be the suspects tasked with capturing, he cautiously said, "Bring her to my car, I'll take you back."

"Thank you so much," Luo Zheng quickly paid the taxi fare and climbed into the police car with Lan Xue.

The officer drove off, talking to his colleague, briefly explaining the situation. As they traveled, Lan Xue pretended to be unconscious, Luo Zheng feigned a panicked concern, ignoring the officer's probing questions. Unknowingly, they arrived at the consulate, and soone imdiately notified the consul general to co over.

The consul general hadn't t Luo Zheng and Lan Xue before, but he had received the relevant orders and unhesitantly confird the two as staff mbers. He muttered a few words about the chaotic security in the Gambling City and efficiently sent the police on their way.
