"Looks like everything is fine..." Johnson muttered. He and Evelyn had returned to the village with the help of Evelyn’s teleportation.
Although this place had beco a ss, they suffered only one casualty. It was an amazing result, considering they were attacked by five mbers.
However, Johnson couldn’t feel that happy, especially with Evelyn beside him. Her mood had beco worse ever since she had asked for so ti. It looked like she had contacted Nathan and didn’t like what they were talking about.
Johnson asked, "What are you going to do now? Since this place has been discovered, I’m going to relocate sowhere. I have to discern the nature of this attack. Since they attacked during your visit, I’m afraid there is a spy sowhere.
"They are known for their network, so it won’t be weird if that’s the case. Hence, I have to track down their network and seal it."
Evelyn bit her lip as if she were still recalling their conversation. Johnson was helpless in this situation.
"Well, I will let you think for a mont. I have to manage the rest and apologize to the villagers first." Johnson smiled wryly.
But before he left, Evelyn opened his mouth. "I will remain with you. What we need right now is information. Although he has recovered the book you gave him, he has made himself bait.
"In other words, he is not coming back here. I will stick with you for the ti being and use your information network to gather information for myself.
"Besides, if you want to mobilize the dynasty’s resources, it will be best to have near you to show that we’re still cooperating."
"That’s true..." Johnson nodded. "I understand. In that case, you may follow . Your power is quite unique, so it will be good for as well. If possible, give us a pointer or two about that power of yours. I’m going to raise my subordinates’ level as well, so they have a chance to fight against our opponents."
Evelyn just looked away as if acknowledging his words.
Johnson sighed. "Well, I know how dangerous to be the bait is, but it doesn’t seem like he is soone who does it without any plans. I think he is going to be alright."
Evelyn didn’t say anything, so Johnson planned to just leave her alone. Yet, he got interrupted one more ti. It wasn’t Evelyn this ti.
Instead, his subordinate suddenly ca to him.
"Huh? What is this?" His subordinate looked like an old man even though he was a lot younger than the grand duke himself.
"Oh, Johan! You are finally back?" Johnson raised his head.
"My lord." Johan ca to him with a grim expression. "What happened here?"
"We got attacked by the Death Society."
"!!!" Johan gasped. "What? That’s impossible."
"Huh?" Johnson tilted his head in confusion. "What do you an?"
"I’m about to report to you regarding this matter. I have traveled as quickly as possible. One day ago, the Death Society clashed with the empire, and we found a few were missing!"
"!!!"
"What do you an?" Evelyn suddenly intruded on their conversation.
"Who?" Johan widened his eyes, feeling the pressure emanating from her body. His instinct clearly told him that the woman before him was much stronger than him.
Johnson pointed down and extended his ena like that of a stick, drawing a square that was surrounded by six other squares.
"The dynasty and the empire have made an agreent to isolate the Death Society. The square in the middle is a city called Thenrin (Hell Prison).
"This city is a lawless city on the border of the two countries. Whatever you want to find, you might find it there. Drugs, slaves, or whatever.
"To isolate them, we provide basic supplies through rchants there. If we isolate them completely, they will feel cornered and break out after all.
"But there is one thing we have made sure of before placing them there. It’s to erase all people who have a certain amount of strength or talent so that the Death Society can’t grow.
"These six squares are smaller cities that were built to monitor this lawless city. Each city has a sensory-type summoner. In other words, if they want to sneak out, at least two cities will pick up their presence no matter how hard they’re trying to hide their power.
"Of course, there is one crystal fusion stage summoner stationed in each city. The idea is that if one gets attacked, the others can help. Depending on the clash, they are to hold back the enemy for as long as possible.
"And right now..." Johnson glanced at Johan.
Johan didn’t trust Evelyn, but since Johnson explained this to Evelyn, he continued Johnson’s explanation. "They attacked this city. As a result, the two summoners from the surrounding city co to aid.
"However, the sensory-type summoners have sensed that so of the mbers are missing. In other words, this small clash is just their way of smuggling the people."
Evelyn frowned. "Does this kind of attack happen occasionally?"
"In the past? Yes. They didn’t like to be confined, so the two countries put so much effort into stopping them. But it has been 5 years since the last clash." Johnson shook his head. "So, why would they beco active again at this ti?"
"..." Evelyn frowned. "Us?"
"I don’t want to point my finger at anyone just yet. However, that is indeed suspicious. They launch an attack during your visit. May I know everything you have done here?" Johan didn’t know, but Johnson’s aning was clear. He wanted to know everything Evelyn and Nathan had done ever since they had arrived on this continent.
Evelyn thought for a mont. "I don’t mind telling you, but can I ask a question first? If what you said is correct, isn’t it weird for them to beco active again? And why would they attack this city instead of the others?
"I an, if they’re aiming for us, shouldn’t they attack the city on the dynasty’s side instead of the empire’s side?"
"That is indeed weird." Johnson fell silent.
"About that..." Johan’s expression suddenly turned grim.
