Chapter 1216: Clue
“Why are you granting that peerage to him, my lord?” Count Klein protested.
Duke Christian looked at him as if he were a fool. “It looks like your information is not up to date. There are already spies around Marquis Lindwurm, who is responsible for creating the device in the dynasty.
“Our spies have seen the devices, and our people have tried to replicate them. Despite the simple design, there is one thing we have found. No matter what you do, you are unable to replicate the device.
“In other words, even if we want to seize it from him, it will be impossible to recreate the device. We can make a small profit by seizing his devices, but our nas will go bad due to our thod. It’s simply not worth it.
“However, the fact that he can get this device ans… he either has the core blueprint or a connection to the mysterious person that invented this device.”
“Impossible.” Count Klein was taken aback.
Duke Christian snorted. “That’s why I’m warning you, Klein. If you touch him, I will be the one coming for your neck. It’s better to be a distributor and get rewarded for that achievent than to let another noble snatch him.”
“I-I understand.” Klein paused for a mont. “In that case, are we going to sell it for 50 million as we agreed?”
“No. We will only take a bit of profit from it.” Duke Christian shook his head. “We are not rchants. We are nobles. Instead of earning so money, it’s better to use this as a political tool to gain their favors, including the emperor’s.”
“You are wise, my lord.”
Duke Christian only snorted, wondering how this guy couldn’t even think of such a simple thing.
…
While Neyeid was discussing the devices, Sonia had returned and found Nathan working in the office.
“Nathan? You have arrived!” Sonia was surprised. She had to go hidden for the last few days, so she didn’t hear anything about him coming.
“Yo, Sonia. Welco back. Are you hurt?”
“No. I managed just fine.” Sonia looked around. “Where’s Neyeid?”
“He’s discussing the cloud-repelling devices with the nobles.”
“Oh.” Sonia nodded. “I will wait then.”
“I heard that you were investigating the black cell utilization.” Nathan paused at this part, as if asking Sonia to tell him about the report.
Sonia didn’t really mind, considering Nathan was the one who handled most of the planning. “There is a record of their power, most likely from observation. I didn’t manage to obtain the record, but there are a few things I have found.
“Do you rember the ti when you fought against a low-ranking mber of the Divine Hand? At that ti, the familiars were scared because they were threatened by their summoner, who planted the alien in their body, right?”
Nathan nodded. He rembered the fight. It was during a vacation to the beach. Bella was also there.
“From the looks of it, this thod cos from the aliens. In other words, the alien on our continent and the one on this continent might have the sa knowledge.”
“!!!” Nathan widened his eyes. “What did you say?”
He didn’t consider this. Considering the aliens had been fighting the black cell for so long, they might have found a way to separate the black cell from the alien’s body.
On Gratzel, Nathan had seen the black cell corrupting Roggoth or his offspring. If that was the case, the alien on this continent might be held captive by the Death Society.
“So, if we want to find the aliens, we have to go to their headquarters?”
“Most likely, but that’s not my main point.” Sonia shook her head. “The alien on our continent only gave a portion of its knowledge. On the other hand, the alien on this continent might have given its entire knowledge.”
“For what exactly? Roggoth did it so that it could lead to him. But what about this alien? Does he have the sa intention?”
“That’s still unclear.” Sonia sighed. There was no record of it, so she had no answer to his question. “I couldn’t steal the record, so my information might just be part of it. But this is what I have found.
“According to the record, they managed to extract the black cell from the alien’s body. Then, they used this black cell to infect their familiars.”
Nathan rubbed his forehead. “There’s one problem with that theory. I have seen their black weapons. How about their lifebound familiars? Each of them has one lifebound familiar, like us. In that case, they can only utilize their lifebound familiar, no?
“What about the black weapon?”
“That’s indeed sothing I haven’t figured out.” Sonia sighed. “The record might shed so light on your questions.”
Nathan also rembered that Bell Crusher could use three bells, actually.
“Now that I think about it, they ntioned sothing about the alien within one’s body as well as corruption.” Sonia lifted up her head, recalling the record. “That’s right. The black cell will corrupt the familiar as well as the summoning link.”
“!!!” Nathan suddenly fell silent. A few dots in his mind started to connect, but he still couldn’t grasp the full picture. “Do you rember anything else?”
“For this one? That’s all. However, I have an informant regarding the Death Society’s mbers. I have confird two other people besides ‘Sky.'”
“I see. Give a mont.” Nathan raised one finger as he activated the communication ring. “The one he wanted to connect with was none other than Bella.
“Hello. Who is this?”
“This is Nathan. There is sothing I’d like to ask. Maybe you can find sothing about it.”
“Sure. We are heading to the library right now.”
“In that case, can you find out whether it’s possible to artificially create a summoning link? I’m suspecting that they are using the black cell to artificially strengthen the summoning link, which makes it equal to the lifebound link. As a result, they are able to use both the black weapon and their lifebound weapon.”
“Are you sure?” Bella gasped.
To everyone’s surprise, lissa’s voice suddenly echoed. “I think I read that sowhere.”
