That morning, at the courthouse in Jiangcheng’s Lishui Street.
After the hearing ended, Luo Xudong packed up his things and went to another judge’s office.
Aside from Xu Yun’s case, he had other major cases to discuss with the judge.
After they finished discussing the cases, the judge poured Lawyer Luo a cup of tea.
Luo Xudong had actually worked at the court before. A law firm had poached him with a high salary, which was why he resigned to beco a lawyer.
Otherwise, he might have been a judge himself by now.
After all, anyone who could beco a lawyer at a top-tier firm was hardly a minor character.
So, the two were old acquaintances, almost friends. When they were alone, they spoke more casually.
The judge smiled, a little curious, and asked, "What brings you here for such a minor case? Does your firm even take on small-fry cases like this anymore?"
"I had no choice. The client is one of our firm’s major accounts."
Luo Xudong took a sip of tea and said, "Regarding this case, if the other party doesn’t pay up, I hope the court will be able to enforce the judgnt."
"That’s no problem. As long as you file the application, we’ll follow procedure."
The judge asked, "How about it? Lunch in our cafeteria? My treat."
"I ate here for over a decade. I’ve had my fill."
Luo Xudong smiled and stood up. "I’d better head back. Besides, I need to inform my client of today’s outco."
「At the courthouse entrance.」
Huang ngyao, the one sued by Xu Yun, erged with her lawyer, her face pale and haggard.
In the lawsuit that had just concluded, they had lost.
Huang ngyao hadn’t even seen Xu Yun in person throughout the entire process, yet the court had ordered her to return the entire betrothal gift.
She stared angrily at the lawyer beside her.
Before the hearing, he had been so full of himself, swearing up and down that he was the best.
But during the hearing, the mont he saw the opposing counsel, he just wilted.
He was completely steamrolled by the other side, utterly powerless to fight back!
She complained, "Lawyer Qin, didn’t you say you were confident we’d win? Is this the guarantee you gave ?"
"You really can’t bla for this one."
Lawyer Qin said, frustrated, "Do you have any idea who I was up against in there?"
"Who?"
"He’s a lawyer from Jiangcheng’s only Red Circle firm."
Huang ngyao asked, confused, "Red Circle firm? What does that an?"
"It ans he’s a lawyer from one of the most elite firms in the country, get it?"
Lawyer Qin sighed helplessly. "I honestly never imagined they would take on such a small financial dispute case."
Huang ngyao was speechless.
Lawyer Qin asked curiously, "What exactly does this ex-boyfriend of yours do? Anyone who can hire Lawyer Luo is no ordinary person."
"To put it bluntly, his legal fees for this lawsuit alone are probably more than the hundred-so thousand you owe."
Huang ngyao was silent.
"Don’t even think about an appeal. You’d have almost no chance of winning."
Lawyer Qin shook his head. "And I doubt any other lawyer would be willing to take your case now."
"Then what am I supposed to do?"
Huang ngyao said, "I don’t have that much money to pay him back right now."
"My advice is to go talk to him in person. Try to settle it privately. See if you can pay back a smaller amount, or just admit you were wrong."
"After all, I can tell he’s not soone who’s hurting for money."
Lawyer Qin added kindly, "Otherwise, if he keeps pursuing this, you’ll likely face compulsory execution by the court."
Huang ngyao had no reply.
She’d spent the money and lost the case. And from what Lawyer Qin just said, she couldn’t win even if she tried to fight it further.
But she simply didn’t have the money to pay it back.
Of the money Xu Yun had given her, she had spent all but twenty or thirty thousand.
And Zhang Wentao had scamd her out of 100,000 from her own savings.
From yesterday to today, she had called Zhang Wentao countless tis, but he’d rejected every call.
Now she couldn’t even find him.
Moreover, she had taken the bags he’d given her to be appraised, only to find they were all fakes—high-quality knockoffs.
She couldn’t sell them for anything significant.
And all of this was her "best friend" Wang Qing’s fault!
Just as she was wondering what to do next, a woman appeared before her.
She had two n with her!
"You’re Huang ngyao?" the woman asked.
Huang ngyao looked at the strange woman before her, unsure of what was happening. She nodded. "I am. What is it?"
The mont the words left her mouth, a resounding SLAP landed across her face.
"You damn bitch! You’re the one who seduced my husband, aren’t you?"
The woman snarled viciously, "Give back the 100,000 you scamd from Zhang Wentao."
"???"
Huang ngyao was completely stunned by the slap. "I don’t know what you’re talking about! And who are you? What gives you the right to hit ?"
The woman shot back, "I’m Zhang Wentao’s wife! What’s wrong with slapping a howrecker like you? You think you don’t deserve it?"
A sense of grievance washed over Huang ngyao as she retorted, "When I was with him, I didn’t know he had a wife!"
"That scumbag is all yours if you want him, but you have to give back the money he gave you."
"What money?"
The woman sneered. "Playing dumb with ? He scamd 100,000 from and said he gave it to you."
"I took 100,000 from him?"
Upon hearing this, Huang ngyao felt herself breaking down. She yelled, "He’s the one who scamd 100,000 from ** for so ’investnt’! And now I’m being sued to pay back a debt!"
The woman was taken aback.
Huang ngyao rembered what Wang Qing had said and added, "It was that bastard Zhang Wentao! He’s been gambling! He took our money and gambled it all away!"
"Uh."
The woman froze for a second, then gave an awkward laugh. "Sorry about that. Wrong person."
With that, she turned and left with her n.
Huang ngyao: "..."
Luo Xudong, who was just coming out, happened to witness the scene. He kindly walked over and asked, "Are you all right? Do you want to call the police for you?"
"Get lost! I don’t need your fake sympathy."
Huang ngyao glared at the lawyer who had been so aggressive toward her in the courtroom just monts before. "All you people know how to do is bully a helpless woman like !" she said furiously.
"That’s not right. Since you didn’t marry my client, it’s only reasonable that you return the betrothal gift. I am simply defending my client’s legitimate rights."
Tears welled up in Huang ngyao’s eyes as she looked up and challenged him, "Don’t act so high and mighty. You’re just doing it for the money."
"Putting the betrothal gift aside, are you saying Xu Yun is completely blaless in all this?"
Luo Xudong was speechless.
’Sigh. I shouldn’t have been so nice and tried to reason with her.’
’A person like her only understands the iron fist of justice!’
Shaking his head at the sight, Luo Xudong also turned and left. On the way back, he gave Xu Yun a call.
"Hello, Mr. Xu."
Luo Xudong said, "Today’s hearing is over. We won. The court has ordered the other party to repay your entire betrothal gift within one month."
"If she refuses to pay, we will help you apply to the court for compulsory execution."
"Great. Thank you for your hard work."
Back at his office, Xu Yun was very satisfied with this outco.
He wasn’t trying to destroy Huang ngyao on purpose; he just wanted to get back what was rightfully his.
It was never about the money. He was taking back his dignity and closing the door on a difficult Chapter of his life.
