Ou Jue stopped teasing Xiyan, his ink-black eyes tightly locking onto hers. "Not a girl. As for her age, she’s about the sa as my mom."
Oh no.
So it’s a middle-aged woman...
Xiyan was still curious. "Why are you looking for her? Could she be a legendary lifesaver or sothing?"
"Sothing like that." Ou Jue couldn’t resist scratching the soft skin under Xiyan’s chin, teasing her like a cat. "Just so grudge from the previous generation."
"It tickles!" Xiyan dodged a little to the side before speaking again. "But the world is so big. Just based on a na, wouldn’t it take forever to find her? Isn’t there anything more helpful, like a photo or sothing?"
"Idiot." Ou Jue lightly tapped her forehead. "If I had sothing like that, would I have been searching for so many years with no results at all?"
"True, oh."
It was already past ten at night.
Thankfully, An Ran helped out by calling Xia Zhiyun, covering for Xiyan and saying she wouldn’t be coming ho tonight but staying over at An Ran’s place instead.
The importance of having a best friend everyone’s parents know!
After hanging up, An Ran flashed an OK sign at Xiyan.
Hooray, dodged a bullet!
Xiyan cheerfully high-fived An Ran, but then she realized Niannian was nowhere to be seen.
"Eh? Where did Niannian go?"
Earlier, she had been so focused on helping Ou Jue with his wound that she completely forgot about Chi Niannian, who had co along as well.
Feeling a little guilty, Xiyan quickly borrowed An Ran’s phone to call Chi Niannian.
The call connected, and Chi Niannian’s voice sounded calm. "An Ran? What’s up?"
"Niannian, it’s ."
Chi Niannian paused for a mont, glanced at the phone screen, and her tone shifted slightly. "Xiyan..."
After all, everything had already been resolved.
Xiyan, fully recovered and brimming with energy once again, scanned her surroundings. "Why did you leave?"
Rembering the intimate interactions between Xiyan and Ou Jue, Chi Niannian lowered her eyes. "Sothing ca up at the last minute. I didn’t have ti to tell you guys. Sorry."
"Oh, I see. But why are you apologizing? I should be thanking you," Xiyan said, glancing back at Ou Jue.
She then walked a bit farther away and spoke sincerely, "Thank you for caring about so much. But Niannian, please don’t investigate Ou Jue anymore, okay?"
She quickly added to explain, "Ah, I don’t an anything by it. It’s just that—you’re soone I care about, and Ou Jue is soone I care about too. I don’t want to see you two always clashing."
Soone she cares about.
The words made Chi Niannian’s lashes tremble slightly. Her previously dull eyes seed to spark with a glimr of hope. "Am I soone you care about?"
"Of course! You and An Ran, and another friend of mine are all people I care about. Oh, my other friend is nad Ruge—Lan Ruge. But she’s abroad right now. When she cos back, I’ll introduce her to you all, okay?"
Soone she cares about, as a friend.
Yes, she could only ever be a friend.
Chi Niannian’s amber-colored eyes shimred softly. She nodded. "Alright."
After hanging up, Xiyan turned around only to et Ou Jue’s wistful gaze. "Xia Xiyan, why were you smiling so brightly while talking on the phone with soone else?"
"It was Niannian," Xiyan said, exasperated. "You wouldn’t seriously be jealous of a girl, would you?"
Ou Jue let out a cold snort from his nose and took a step forward. He pulled her into his arms, declaring possessively, "You can only be mine."
