Ou Jue’s mother’s eyes showed a trace of bloodshot red, her emotions and rationality seemingly completely collapsing.
Her behavior was irrational to the extre, as if, should Ou Jue refuse to leave with her, she might imdiately jump out the window.
Ou Jue’s gaze darkened. He quickly released Xia Xiyan, got up, and said in a slightly cold voice, "Mom, haven’t you had enough?"
Xiyan was also terrified and quickly sat up straight.
Could Aunt Ou really be planning to jump?
This wasn’t the second or third floor!
Ou Jue’s mother had already pushed the window open, looking as if she was ready to leap at any mont. Her tone was still stiff as she pressed him again, "Are you coming with or not?"
Ou Jue’s lips pressed into a flat line; after a long mont, he finally spoke, "Bring Qiao Qianmo up here."
"What?" Ou Jue’s mother frowned, glancing over with suspicion.
Ou Jue’s expression remained emotionless as his thin lips parted, "Call her up and deal with this matter face-to-face. If she is indeed the one who found the necklace, I’ll go back with you and take her out to dinner."
If not...
A glimr of coldness flickered in Ou Jue’s eyes.
Ou Jue’s mother let out a cold sneer. "The evidence is already right in front of us—what’s there to deal with?!"
Even as she said this, it was clear she had noticed Ou Jue’s slight concession.
Ou Jue’s mother was quite satisfied. She turned to the bodyguard stationed by the door and ordered, "Go, help Momo upstairs."
...Xiyan twitched her lips slightly.
Help?
Qiao Qianmo had rely taken advantage of an opportunity—exactly how frail could she be?
The bodyguard obeyed, turned around, and headed downstairs.
In the car downstairs, Qiao Qianmo remained sitting stiffly upright, her gaze lowered to her lap, focusing intently on her hands.
Cold sweat trickled uncontrollably down her back.
She had purposely acted frail earlier, unwilling to follow her aunt upstairs.
But now... was Xia Xiyan awake?
This feeling—that her lie could be exposed at any mont—was unbearable!
The car door suddenly opened.
Startled, Qiao Qianmo looked up, only to see her aunt’s personal bodyguard respectfully informing her, "Miss Qianmo, Madam has asked you to co upstairs."
Her heart sank. Qiao Qianmo hurriedly asked, "What about Xia Xiyan? Is she awake?!"
The bodyguard gave a slight nod. "She’s awake."
It’s over.
Closing her eyes resignedly, Qiao Qianmo tried to steady her breathing. "Understood."
With that, she stretched her long legs out of the car and stepped down.
When she pushed open the hospital room door, every pair of eyes inside snapped to her simultaneously.
As soon as Ou Jue’s mother spotted Qiao Qianmo’s frail and weak deanor, she rushed up with concern. "Momo, how are you feeling now?"
"Much better... but my head is still spinning..."
Xiyan stared at Qiao Qianmo speechlessly.
Keep pretending.
Let’s see how long you can keep this up.
Ou Jue stood with his arms crossed, casually leaning against the fra at the foot of the hospital bed. "Qiao Qianmo."
Qiao Qianmo looked over at him, smiling sweetly. "Ou Jue-gege, don’t worry about . I’m fine—I just need a little rest."
Ou Jue’s face remained stern, the hard lines of his jaw taut. His voice was calm, "Tell —who exactly brought back the necklace?"
His voice was neither harsh nor soft, yet it carried an undeniable authority.
Those pitch-black eyes seed capable of piercing through every lie.
Qiao Qianmo t his gaze for just a second before a shiver ran through her. She panicked and quickly averted her eyes.
