Several minutes later, Director Graham and Commander Miller stood inside the storage structure.

The interior was massive.

Rows of reinforced racks stretched across the wide chamber, each built to hold heavy military hardware.

Weapons crates lined entire sections of the floor, stacked in orderly columns while identification markers glowed faintly along the edges of the platforms.

Bright industrial lights hung high above, casting a stark white glow across the facility.

Activity filled the space.

UPSDF soldiers moved in steady patterns as the shipnt was brought inside.

So of the stronger personnel carried crates that dwarfed their own bodies. One soldier hoisted a container nearly three tis his height onto his shoulder and walked across the floor with slow, grounded steps.

Each footfall echoed against the tal flooring.

Elsewhere, soldiers with flight abilities lifted cargo straight into the air. Their boots left the ground with a short burst of force—

FWOOM~

They rose several ters upward, carefully stacking crates on elevated storage racks where chanical arms secured them into position.

Others handled docuntation.

Speed-type personnel moved between stations with tablets in hand while small hovering droids floated beside them, projecting holographic displays and recording serial numbers.

One soldier read the identification code aloud while the droid confird the entry, its chanical voice repeating the numbers back as the inventory updated.

The entire process ran with quiet coordination.

Commander Miller observed it all.

Her expression remained firm as her gaze moved from one section of the structure to another.

She studied the loading patterns.

The personnel assignnts.

The security coverage.

Nothing escaped her notice.

Director Graham stood beside her.

Yet his attention was sowhere else entirely.

His eyes rested on the moving personnel, but they weren't truly seeing them.

His thoughts drifted.

'Did I miss sothing earlier…'

'No ssage. Nothing.'

His fingers tightened slightly around the handle of his cane.

A voice broke through his thoughts.

"Director."

Commander Miller had turned toward him.

"Kindly walk with to this unit's control room."

Graham blinked once, pulled from his thoughts.

"The control room?" he asked, brows drawing together. "What for? Nothing gets stored there."

"Of course I know that."

Her reply ca imdiately.

She paused for a mont, watching him more closely.

"Is there sothing the matter?" she asked.

Her eyes narrowed slightly.

"You're awfully dazed."

Graham opened his mouth to respond, but she continued before he could.

"If I have to explain every little matter, we will be here much longer."

Her tone remained level.

"Or would you again prefer that I contact your council and gain approval?"

That stopped him.

Graham's jaw tightened.

'They're already going to be unhappy I authorized access here without informing them.'

He exhaled slowly.

On the surface, irritation crept into his expression.

'I really don't have to deal with all this.'

He turned toward her.

"Let's go."

Commander Miller nodded once.

She glanced briefly toward a soldier overseeing the main loading operation near the center of the structure.

The soldier straightened slightly as she t his gaze.

A simple acknowledgnt passed between them.

Then she followed the Director deeper into the building.

Their footsteps carried them along the interior walkways.

Sections of the facility passed on either side.

Weapon racks filled with sealed containers.

Automated lifts raising equipnt to upper storage tiers.

Maintenance droids rolling along narrow rails beneath the platforms.

The air slled faintly of machine oil and tal.

Their route eventually led them away from the main activity.

The wide chamber narrowed into a corridor branching toward the rear section of the structure.

Fewer personnel operated here.

Only security units.

The corridor ended at a pair of large reinforced doors.

Two bipedal guard droids stood on either side.

Unlike the others in the complex, these units were inactive.

Their systems were powered down, tal fras standing motionless like statues.

Mounted beside the doors were two biotric checkpoints.

One on each side.

Director Graham stepped forward and stopped before the entrance.

He looked toward Commander Miller.

"Do you want to inspect the room or…?"

"Sothing along those lines," she replied.

She stepped closer to the other checkpoint.

"H.Q. is considering upgrading these systems."

Her eyes shifted briefly to the scanning equipnt.

"I don't agree. I believe they are adequate."

A short pause followed.

"But I need to verify it myself."

Graham said nothing.

He simply positioned himself on the checkpoint pad.

The scanner panel lit up.

He glanced toward her.

"On the count of three?"

Commander Miller moved into position across from him.

She nodded once.

"One…"

Both placed their hands against the biotric plates.

"Two…"

They leaned slightly forward.

Small scanners aligned with their eyes.

"Three."

A thin beam passed across Graham's face.

Bzzzt~

Another scanned Miller at the sa ti.

For a mont, nothing happened.

Then the light above the door shifted.

Green.

A chanical lock disengaged.

Clack—clack—

The reinforced doors began sliding open with a deep rumble.

Grrrrrr~

The control room waited beyond.

Inside was a moderately sized command chamber.

Multiple workstations surrounded a central console.

Large screens covered the far wall, displaying surveillance feeds of the city from different angles—rooftop caras, aerial views, traffic monitoring systems.

Other monitors showed weapons storage data and facility diagnostics.

Rows of small indicator lights flickered steadily across the consoles.

Graham walked in first.

His cane tapped lightly against the floor.

He looked around briefly before turning toward Commander Miller.

"Will this take long?"

"No," she replied. "It won't."

Graham began to turn away.

"Good. I have a lot of wo—"

His sentence stopped.

His eyes widened.

Commander Miller's fist was suddenly in front of his face.

There had been no warning.

No shift in posture.

No preparation.

Just motion.

CRACK—!

Her punch struck him square across the jaw.

The impact lifted him off his feet.

Graham's body flew backward across the room before slamming into the central console.

WHAM—!

tal groaned as the console buckled under the force. The reinforced plating bent inward, leaving a deep dent where his back collided with it.

Screens flickered violently.

Sparks snapped briefly across a damaged panel.

Graham collapsed from the console and dropped to the floor.

His cane skidded away across the room.

Clatter~

Pain exploded through his head.

His ears rang.

His vision swam as he tried to push himself upright.

One arm trembled beneath him as he struggled to rise.

'What…?'

His head lifted slowly.

Across the room, Commander Miller walked toward him.

Her steps were steady.

Graham's eyes searched her face in confusion.

She was superhuman too.

He had known that.

Many UPSDF commanders were.

But the force behind that strike…

'She's stronger than .'

He tried to push himself higher, but his arm failed and he dropped back onto one knee.

Miller stopped a few steps away from him.

"I'm sorry, Director."

Her voice remained calm.

Almost polite.

As she spoke, she lifted her leg.

Her boot hovered above his head, ready to co down.

Graham opened his mouth.

Before he could say anything—

WHAM—!

Her foot ca down.

The world went black.
