But now, what other choice do they have besides going back? They can’t possibly sacrifice their future for a bit of pride and end up crippled, right?
Guoguo and Tangtang exchanged a glance, both showing a bitter smile. Guoguo hesitated for a long ti before picking up the phone.
"Maybe I should call instead." Tangtang said, pressing her lips together.
Back when they left Xu Ke, it was far from amicable. Just thinking about their resolute departure, as if they would never cross paths again in this lifeti, and now they have to humble themselves to ask Xu Ke for surgery money, even thickening their skin to ask for money. Even imagining this was embarrassing and shaful, making them wish they could bury themselves in the ground to escape such awkwardness.
Tangtang felt it was extrely embarrassing to swallow her pride. Didn’t Guoguo feel the sa way? Understanding those feelings, Guoguo took the initiative to pick up the phone, only to have it snatched back by Tangtang.
The two sisters had vowed never to ask others for money again, yet within a few short years, they were now breaking their promise in such a pitiful manner. Tangtang and Guoguo felt a bitter taste in their mouths like never before.
"Let do it." Guoguo reached out to grab the phone from Tangtang’s hand, but Tangtang dodged.
"No matter what happened before, you were always the one to protect from harm. In truth, as an elder sister, I’ve never done much for you, so this ti let do it." Tangtang said, with a kind smile.
This smile didn’t suit the typically vibrant Tangtang, diminishing her usual vitality and making her look like a wilting flower, destroying her usual charm.
Guoguo didn’t like Tangtang’s smile; to her, Tangtang should always be the girl with a bright and lively grin.
"We’re sisters; it doesn’t matter who’s in front. Don’t smile like that; it doesn’t suit you at all." Guoguo said, feeling a bit distressed for Tangtang.
Guoguo imagined many things looking at Tangtang, while Tangtang found Guoguo’s worried gaze sowhat bewildering, not understanding why Guoguo felt distressed for her.
Though her arm and leg were broken, Guoguo was in the sa situation. Why feel distressed?
Guoguo paid no attention, and after speaking, attempted again to grab the phone from Tangtang’s hand but failed as Tangtang dodged once more.
"I said I’ll make the call, so I will. Stop fighting with over it." Tangtang finished speaking and dialed Xu Ke’s number.
Initially, Tangtang didn’t feel much, but when the phone’s ringtone reached her ears, her heart began to tremble nervously.
While Tangtang made the call, Xu Ke was dealing with a traitor in a casino. Seeing the thick blood on the floor, Xu Ke’s face held a lingering murderous expression. "Who’s this?"
When Xu Ke picked up the call, he didn’t look at who was calling, simply responding as soon as he heard the ringtone.
Upon hearing Xu Ke’s voice again after more than half a month, Tangtang felt a shiver in her heart and completely forgot to breathe, as if her brain paused.
"Hello?" Xu Ke waited a while without a response, glanced at the unknown number, and frowned, unsure who it was.
Guoguo waited for a mont, only seeing her sister in a daze, apparently with no intention to speak. Guoguo sighed deeply in her heart and took the phone from Tangtang’s hand.
Caught off guard, Tangtang couldn’t react in ti, allowing Guoguo to successfully take the phone.
"Hello, it’s , I’m Guoguo." Just as Xu Ke was about to lose patience, Guoguo spoke.
Xu Ke was slightly stunned to hear Guoguo’s voice, not expecting the callers to be Tangtang and Guoguo.
Xu Ke was surprised; he thought these two would never appear before him again.
But after just half a month, hearing their voices again made Xu Ke feel as if it had been ages.
"So it’s you. Are you calling because of so trouble?" Xu Ke asked.
Xu Ke’s question caused Guoguo to montarily show a distressed expression that she quickly suppressed, knowing she did indeed need sothing.
Xu Ke wasn’t wrong.
Though rationally understanding the situation, emotionally it was difficult to accept, as Xu Ke’s words implied they only reached out to him when in trouble.
But thinking it over, that seed to be the case, causing Guoguo’s expression to change rapidly, featuring a colorful Sichuan opera mask.
She felt ashad and sowhat angrily defensive, making her expression rather unpleasant.
Tangtang, seeing Guoguo’s unpleasant expression, thought Xu Ke must have said sothing upsetting, making Tangtang’s expression unpleasant too.
Tangtang mouthed to Guoguo, asking if Xu Ke had said anything harsh.
Guoguo shook her head at Tangtang and then spoke into the phone to Xu Ke, "There’s sothing I need your help with; I need to borrow so money from you, is that okay?"
For so reason, Guoguo instinctively concealed the current circumstances, only ntioning borrowing money and nothing else.
Although Tangtang and Guoguo left without a word, leaving Xu Ke a bit lost, he didn’t hold any grudges against the sisters.
Hearing Guoguo’s request for money, Xu Ke felt no unwillingness; rather, he was concerned Guoguo must have faced difficulties or injustice to ask for money.
Guoguo and Tangtang had left so decisively, it seed unlikely they’d suddenly ask for money without facing sothing.
Given their prior deanor, it seed as if they never intended for further interactions in this lifeti.
