Xu Ke didn’t know how long it had been, but he felt his eyelids were particularly heavy. When he opened his eyes, he only felt the glaring sunlight outside, which was shining warmly on him.
Then he heard the sounds of cows and sheep, and the lady of the house was shouting, "It’s one thing for people to wait for to cook, but now even these animals won’t leave alone. What did I do in my past life to deserve marrying into such a rundown household?"
Upon hearing this voice, Xu Ke frowned. Wasn’t he in his own room?
But now, as he looked up, this room was completely constructed of rotting wood.
Moreover, these pieces of wood, having gone unmaintained for years, had been eaten by bugs, leaving behind a lot of wood dust, which was now falling down.
So even fell on Xu Ke’s nose, making him uncomfortably brush it away.
The house now seed on the verge of collapse due to the damaged wood. As Xu Ke felt dizzy, he heard a loud crash as a wooden beam fell to the ground, shattering into many wood splinters.
Upon hearing this, the woman outside seed to have thrown sothing made of iron onto the ground, and then stord inside, causing the ground to shake as she ran.
After entering, she saw the wood chips on the ground and looked at Xu Ke on the bed, growing even more furious.
"You burden, the doctor already said you will be a vegetative person for life. But who would’ve thought you’d wake up only to break the house. You’re indeed a jinx. What a misfortune in my past life led to give birth to such a useless person like you?"
When the woman ca in, her eyes were initially filled with surprise, but seeing the wood fragnts, all her joy disappeared. She looked at Xu Ke as if he were a stranger, even with a hint of resentnt in her eyes.
Xu Ke indeed recognized that the woman before him was his mother. Was it because of the Dragon and Phoenix Formation that he ended up here?
He was no longer the original Xu Ke but a recently awakened vegetative person.
"What year is it now? Who are you?"
When Xu Ke asked those questions, the woman looked at him as if he were an idiot, but then she sighed heavily.
"It’s all my fate, it seems."
The woman sat down, took a big gulp of water from a grimy teacup. "Of course, it’s 2020 now, and I am your mother, Wang Cuixia, and you are my son, Xu Ke."
As soon as Xu Ke heard this, he imdiately realized that he was still in this world, but now, he had beco Xu Ke, the son of Wang Cuixia in Taohua Village.
After Wang Cuixia finished speaking, she looked at her son. Although she had given birth to him, she had lost much of her patience after so many years, even thinking that she no longer had a son.
Wang Cuixia hunched her back and walked towards the door, but her voice still drifted in, devoid of any care, and filled with resignation about life.
"Since you’re awake, get out of bed early to help in the fields later."
Xu Ke pursed his lips, lifted the mold-spotted quilt, and slled the musty odor from it, as it had not been sun-dried for years, then supported himself to get off the bed.
After getting out of bed, he felt none of the weakness expected of a vegetative person, which surprised Xu Ke. After searching for a while, he finally found a piece of broken mirror in the corner of the room.
Xu Ke took the mirror and looked at himself, finding that he still looked the sa as before, that his body was the sa, but his identity now was curious.
"Since heaven has given a chance to start over, I’m not afraid, Xu Ke. At worst, I’ll just start anew."
After saying this, Xu Ke imdiately took the moldy quilt and hung it on the line in the courtyard to dry.
At this ti, after Wang Cuixia finished feeding the pigs and saw Xu Ke sunning the quilt, she felt a little relief in her heart. At last, there was finally soone in the house.
With another heavy sigh, Wang Cuixia washed her hands and started busily in the kitchen.
This place was unlike the great cities, lacking those high-grade food ingredients. In fact, everything consud here was grown by themselves. They ate what they grew, and if it wasn’t available, they simply didn’t eat.
Xu Ke was observing everything around. The courtyard he was in wasn’t too big or too small, but the environnt was indeed terrible.
Moreover, there were no neighbors around.
"Hey, it’s ti to eat."
Another gentle sigh followed. Xu Ke frowned, having not heard such sighs for a long ti.
And in less than two hours since awakening here, he heard Wang Cuixia sigh with every sentence she spoke. Even when walking, she issued those low sighs from her nose, as if it were ingrained in her bones.
"Can you stop sighing?"
Xu Ke couldn’t help it and asked, but when it ca to calling the person in front of him ’mom,’ he found it really difficult.
After hearing it, Wang Cuixia sighed heavily again, then raised her head. It was as if sothing had touched her nerve, and suddenly, she lost her temper at Xu Ke.
"How can I not sigh with these endless days? Your drunken father died, and even you were a vegetative person for three years. Do you know how I lived through it?"
Wang Cuixia spoke while wiping her tears.
"If life were even slightly better, I wouldn’t be sighing so much. But you, lying there for three years, now wake up to criticize . Now I’m the one who doesn’t look good in your eyes, is that it?"
Xu Ke didn’t know how to respond, so he only frowned, lowered his head, and picked up his chopsticks, while Wang Cuixia, seeing Xu Ke acting like that, quietly lowered her tears again.
After crying over the al for a while, Wang Cuixia saw Xu Ke didn’t respond to her and sighed gently once more.
But this sigh seed to suddenly pause as Wang Cuixia stared at the door, and Xu Ke followed her gaze over.
There stood an old uncle, dressed in tattered clothes, holding a dead old hen in his hand.
"Cuixia, this is an old hen we killed at ho. I thought since your boy woke up, he would need so replenishnt, so I brought it over. Quickly, use it to nourish your boy. Once he gradually recovers, there will be soone to support your ho, and at least you can lighten your load a little."
After the old uncle finished speaking, he stuffed the hen into Wang Cuixia’s hands. Wang Cuixia, feeling a bit at a loss, kept refusing, which made the old uncle a bit annoyed.
"It’s indeed a bit tough for a woman to support a household. Spare the politeness. But if you’re genuinely being polite, when your boy prospers, just don’t forget us."
