"No need to check, I’ll tell you." Lin ngyao’s voice sounded sowhat dull. Yu Xia reached out and shook her head while holding Lin ngyao’s hand, as if pleading with her not to say it out loud.
"It won’t stay a secret for long, there’s no difference between saying it sooner or later." Lin ngyao lifted her head, and only then did Xu Ke notice that Lin ngyao’s face was once again wet with tears.
Yu Xia also fell silent, but she let go of Lin ngyao’s hand, clearly allowing her to act as she wished.
"Xiaxia’s condition has worsened." Just a few short words, yet Lin ngyao managed to infuse them with a heavy tone.
"How could it worsen? Wasn’t she recovering well before?" Xu Ke’s face showed confusion, but Lin ngyao’s face carried a hint of hatred.
"It was done by soone nad Wei Ji. When they saw you weren’t coming back, they assud sothing happened to you in the mountains and started targeting us. That guy saw Xiaxia was pretty and tried to assault her. Xiaxia slapped him in self-defense, so they threw her into the water and wouldn’t let her co up. If I hadn’t arrived in ti, Xiaxia might really have drowned in the pool." As Lin ngyao spoke of this, it seed she could still see the ugly and disgusting faces of those people, shaking with anger.
"It’s all in the past, and now our family is reunited. That’s the most important thing; nothing else matters." Yu Xia had a faint smile on her face, making her look pale yet beautiful, fragile like a delicate glass, afraid that a single carelessness might destroy it.
Upon hearing about this, Xu Ke’s eyes imdiately turned red, the hatred and anger in them were almost unbearable to witness, but he remained rational, "Did she go to the hospital? What did the doctors say?" Xu Ke asked coldly.
"The doctors said she needs to rest and not to overdo it, so I’ve arranged for Xiaxia to take a leave from school. I want her to return when she’s better." Lin ngyao reached out to touch Yu Xia’s head as she spoke.
Due to her health, Yu Xia’s hair wasn’t purely black but had a slight yellow tinge, fine and soft to the touch, but it made Lin ngyao’s nose tingle again. She couldn’t understand why her sweet, well-behaved, and hard-working Xiaxia had to suffer like this.
"Take care of her according to the doctor’s instructions. Xiaxia’s suffering must not go unavenged; I will make sure she gets justice." Xu Ke said through gritted teeth.
"It seems their family is in power, and it’s hard for civilians to fight officials. Anyway, I’m fine now, so let’s just let it go." Yu Xia tugged at Xu Ke’s sleeve and said.
"There’s no such thing as just letting this go. You’re unhard now because of your own good fortune, not because they showed rcy. So, I will definitely seek revenge for you and avenge the wrongs you suffered." Xu Ke looked firmly at Yu Xia, clearly not intending to let Wei Ji off the hook.
Yu Xia saw Xu Ke’s determined look and felt a sweetness in her heart, too delighted to stop him from seeking justice. However, considering the other party’s background, she couldn’t help but worry for Xu Ke.
Though she had lived with Xu Ke and Lin ngyao for a long ti, her previous environnt had limited her thinking to so extent. The concepts of "civilians not fighting officials," "officials covering for each other," and "an official at a higher rank can crush you" were deeply ingrained in her mind. Thus, she didn’t believe Xu Ke could truly confront them. Even though she no longer stopped him from seeking revenge, she was already planning what to do if Xu Ke got into trouble, to ensure everyone’s safety.
Xu Ke was unaware of the calculations running through Yu Xia’s mind. He was only focused on catching this Wei Ji and making him repent for his sins.
"Don’t concern yourselves with this, and don’t worry about . I know what I’m doing. What he owes you, I will make him repay double." Xu Ke told Yu Xia and Lin ngyao, seeing their worried faces.
"We’ll listen to you, but no matter what, you must ensure your safety." Lin ngyao said, looking at Xu Ke with concern.
"Don’t worry, I’ve got it under control." Xu Ke reached out and stroked Lin ngyao’s face.
Xu Ke thought he’d encounter Wei Ji a few days later, but unexpectedly, Wei Ji was so bold. As Xu Ke just finished changing and sat down at the dining table, he received word that Wei Ji and his lackeys were already outside the door.
"I didn’t go looking for him, but he ca on his own." Xu Ke slamd the chopsticks onto the table, speaking coldly.
"Since they’re already at the door, let them in. I’d like to see what he wants." A cold curve ford on Xu Ke’s lips.
"You two go upstairs first, I’ll have them bring the food to you to avoid any clash." Xu Ke said gently to his wife and Yu Xia.
"Then we’ll head up." Lin ngyao said softly, looking at Xu Ke.
Perhaps to see the beauties, Wei Ji and his group entered quickly, with no regard for manners. Even before they entered, Xu Ke could hear their voices.
"Xiaxia, I’ve co. Did you miss ?" A flippant voice sounded from outside, and soon Wei Ji and his friends appeared before Xu Ke.
Wei Ji looked around the room brazenly but couldn’t find the beauty he was missing. He looked extrely displeased.
"What’s going on? Where is she? Why didn’t she co out to greet ? Is she trying to give attitude because she thinks her brother-in-law can protect her? Her brother-in-law is neither alive nor dead, possibly rotting on so hillside without even a complete skeleton. Why wait? Wouldn’t she be better off with , living well without anyone daring to bully her?"
Wei Ji smugly thought his words made perfect sense, and his expression grew even more arrogant, as if he was truly remarkable. His sidekicks agreed enthusiastically, showering him with praises and admiration.
"That’s right, with her looking like she could die at any mont, following you would be a blessing from a past life. How dare she refuse? What right does she have to refuse?" Soone chid in.
