This ti Xu Ke did not refuse, and in front of the two people, he drank the water in the cup in one go.

"Alright, then I won’t be polite. I’m going to rest. You two don’t stay out too late, rember to co back early, and don’t drink too much. I won’t be cleaning up after you." Xu Ke showed them his empty cup and then returned to his room, locked the door, and threw himself into the spinning bedclothes.

It didn’t take long before a dizzy and dazed feeling swept over Xu Ke’s entire nerves and brain, and Xu Ke fell asleep.

The two who said they were going out for drinks stayed in the living room, and neither of them spoke, just quietly looked at each other.

The young man’s crew-cut eyes were no longer as lively and clear as before. At this mont, he looked indifferent, and his eyes towards the boss were not those of looking at a friend, but rather with a condescending attitude.

And the boss sat on the sofa, slightly restrained, his eyes not knowing where to look, his hands not knowing where to touch, and could only keep scratching at his clothes and nails to alleviate the nervousness inside.

Estimating the drug’s effect had kicked in, the boss cautiously spoke, "I have completed everything you instructed. About the money I owe?" The boss glanced carefully at the young man’s face and stamred.

"You did a good job with this matter. We’re not people who don’t keep our word. The money you owe us is naturally written off, but writing off the debt doesn’t an you can just walk away from this. You still need to cooperate with us until we say you can stop." The young man’s eyes at the boss carried disdain and mockery.

"Certainly, rest assured, I will cooperate with you thoroughly." The boss said, nodding and bowing.

"You haven’t told anyone else about this, have you?"

"Rest assured, I haven’t told anyone about this, not even my family. I’ve kept my mouth shut." The boss didn’t care how the young man viewed him, quickly responding as soon as he heard the question, fearing that a delayed answer might displease him.

"That’s good, keep it up." With that, the young man walked out on his own.

Hearing the door close, the boss, who had been sitting on the sofa tensely, finally relaxed completely. He collapsed on the sofa like a puddle of mud, staring blankly at the ceiling, lost in thought.

After a long ti, he got up.

He walked to Xu Ke’s door, twisted the handle, found it locked, and stood still, looking at Xu Ke with a complex expression.

"You were the first person to offer a helping hand, the first to stand in front of to protect , and the first to be so good to without seeking anything in return. But I’m a damn scumbag, I’m not worthy of your goodness, nor your efforts. I’m truly sorry, I was deceiving you all along. I don’t expect you to forgive , just hope that if there’s a next life, you don’t et ." The boss stood at the door, one hand touching the door panel, the other in his pocket, speaking softly with his head lowered.

"If I had t you sooner, would our situation be different? You’re such a good person, we might have beco good friends, right? It’s just too bad, there’s no ’if’ in this world. Sorry, I am destined to let you down in this life." The boss whispered.

The boss didn’t expect any response. He just spoke what he wanted to say, and feeling montarily relieved from his usual gloom, he left without guilt.

Rather than guilt, it was more like he was caught up in self-pity, using this way to prove his conscience still existed.

Inside the room where Xu Ke was supposed to be unconscious, he opened his eyes, revealing a smirk of utter mockery at the corner of his mouth. There sure are plenty of shaless people like this.

Xu Ke turned over, closed his eyes, and slowly fell into sleep.

anwhile, the young man slipped into a familiar bar, which had a hidden area at the back. Once the door was closed, all the noise outside was completely cut off.

"So, is the person at your place now?" soone asked as soon as the young man entered.

"He’s already settled in."

"He didn’t get suspicious, did he?"

"No, he was easily drugged, and now he’s sleeping soundly in the room," the young man took a hard swig of his drink.

"I really don’t get it. Why are we pulling him into the group? He doesn’t seem special, apart from being sowhat good at fighting, there’s no quality worth all this effort to manipulate him," the young man gulped wine and sighed.

"Don’t overthink it. We just do what we’re told. Knowing too much won’t do us any good. But I’ve got so insider news, want to know?" The man with a simple and honest appearance ruffled his head and said mysteriously.

"What news?" The young man got interested imdiately, leaning in without hesitation to ask.

The man rubbed his thumb and forefinger as if counting money, showing a sly smile that didn’t match his honest appearance.

The young man rolled his eyes, "Co on, buddy, after all we’ve been through, you’re still charging ?"

"I paid for this info. If I tell you without asking for sothing, I’ll be at a loss. You don’t want to see your old brother go broke and beg, do you?" The man showed no embarrassnt, in fact, he had an aggrieved look, as if the young man had really wronged him.

"Enough, stop with that look, it’s disgusting. Money, right? Here you go, just stop giving that look." The young man, unable to stand it, waved his hand, took out his wallet, and stuffed a few red bills into the man’s hand.

"Alright, you’ve got the cash, now spill the info." The young man, sowhat impatient, said.

The seemingly naive man counted the money he received, looked satisfied, and his face lit up with joy.

"Last ti, we dealt with an informant. Though he was taken care of, our supply channel ran into so issues. The previous contact was taken out, and now we need a new one. The guy at your place is the best option," the man said with a raised eyebrow.

"Him? It’s not that I look down on him, but he’s soone with zero skepticism. Can he handle this?" The young man, hearing this, raised his voice with disbelief.
