He Chen smiled and saw He Qing off. As He Qing looked back worriedly over and over, He Chen’s smile remained, and seeing that He Chen did not turn his back on Xu Ke, her expression seed very friendly. Finally, He Qing felt reassured enough to go upstairs to prepare for the evening party.
Once He Qing was confird not to co back down, He Chen’s smile vanished instantly. His gaze toward Xu Ke was filled with criticism, and the surrounding servants who saw He Chen’s expression avoided them as if escaping a plague. Soon, a vacuum zone ford around them, making Xu Ke involuntarily raise an eyebrow.
"What does this an?" Xu Ke glanced around at the situation, raised his brows, and asked.
"Although my impression of you has sowhat changed, you know our family’s status. My sister is a young lady born with a silver spoon. For soone to be my brother-in-law, the He Family does not demand his background to match ours, but at least he must ensure my sister is well-off and worry-free. But look, do you have these conditions? If not, I hope you can keep so distance from my sister."
"My sister is pure and cute and might be attracted to you for a while, but as her brother, I don’t want her to be confused and swept away by you. I won’t allow unnecessary or heartbreaking people in her emotional journey." He Chen looked into Xu Ke’s eyes, speaking seriously and solemnly.
Looking at He Chen’s deanor, Xu Ke strangely did not feel angry but instead thought of Yu Xia. If he put himself in the role, and one day Yu Xia t a man of opposite family status, as an elder, he would definitely oppose full-heartedly. With this role reversal, Xu Ke could fully understand He Chen’s feelings, hence he couldn’t get angry.
"I can understand your thoughts, but emotions can’t be avoided just by warning . So people are born as beacons, carrying deadly charm. Even if they do nothing, they still shine like a light in the darkness, attracting others to approach. And I happen to be such a person. So instead of persuading here, why not convince Miss He to close her eyes and not see the light?" Xu Ke said in a sowhat humorous and narcissistic manner.
He Chen was montarily dumbfounded by Xu Ke’s shaless words, and his expression briefly lost control. He reflected on his initial understanding of Xu Ke from prolonged interactions and was utterly shocked by Xu Ke’s audacious narcissism, completely overturning his perception of Xu Ke.
Xu Ke saw He Chen’s instinctively revealed expression and couldn’t help but show a mischievous smile, which sohow made He Chen revert to normal, even becoming a bit annoyed.
"Are you teasing ?"
"I’m not teasing you; I’m just trying to lighten the atmosphere. However, I said sothing serious: a relationship is never initiated by one person. Have you ever asked your sister what she truly wants before warning ? You may think you’ve given her the best, wanting to offer the best outco for her. But have you ever asked if the outco you arranged is what she desires?"
Xu Ke paused for ample thinking ti and continued, "Many tis, people love to judge those around them by their preferences. They like to say ’it’s for your own good,’ imprisoning or controlling those they care about under the guise of goodwill. They’re self-righteous, never asking if the recipient is willing to accept the gift."
Xu Ke faced He Chen’s nearly ferocious gaze and spoke every word he wanted to say.
He Chen’s expression while looking at Xu Ke was unpleasantly sour.
"What are you trying to express by telling this? I’m He Qing’s brother. We’ve grown up together, our relationship closer than with parents. I know all her preferences, likes, and dislikes. The choice I give her is the best. You, an outsider who knows nothing, shouldn’t pretend to be a philosopher, lecturing about these grand principles."
After speaking, He Chen turned to leave, but Xu Ke’s voice suddenly sounded again. "If you think I’m wrong, then why so nervously rush off? Leaving only proves you agree with , that you think I’m right, and that you’re feeling guilty." Xu Ke’s light voice echoed behind He Chen.
"I’m not guilty. Stop imagining nonsense. The evening will soon darken, and the banquet is about to start. You spend this ti wagging your tongue with , yet you should conserve energy for the evening banquet, reviewing your etiquette so not to embarrass yourself." He Chen hurriedly left after saying this.
Watching He Chen’s embarrassed retreat, Xu Ke had no intention to pursue him further. He simply showed a smile of vague aning, reminiscent of a devil sprouting horns.
As the banquet ti approached, invited guests gradually arrived, but no one ca as early as Xu Ke. However, this could be understood, as Xu Ke did not choose to arrive early himself; he was purely brought over by He Chen’s machinations, and upon arrival, he endured inexplicable targeting.
At the start of the banquet, Xu Ke found a secluded corner to nestle in, avoiding the crowd, not wanting to engage in socializing. During the banquet, the current He Family Head, the father of He Chen and He Qing, appeared for the first ti, introducing his daughter to the gathered guests.
With He Father’s introduction, He Qing, who hadn’t been seen before, slowly descended from upstairs.
The pale blue gown was made from an unknown material that, when light hit it, seed to shimr, as if sprinkled with a layer of light. With a large, fluffy skirt, a gemstone necklace around her neck, and a crown accessory made of pearls, everything made her appear like a princess stepping out of a castle. Coupled with her outstanding looks, she had captivated everyone’s gaze from the mont she appeared.
She was just like a real princess, firmly attracting everyone’s eyes.
He Father was very satisfied with He Qing’s entrance and the sensation she caused. He could even see the young gentlen present being captivated by his daughter, unable to shift their gaze away. He Father was extrely proud, scanning the crowd and then resting his gaze on He Qing. He even left his position, stepping forward to greet his daughter.
"You’re very beautiful today, surpassing all others. Look, the single gentlen present can’t take their eyes off you. My daughter has grown up unknowingly." He Father approached, looking at his daughter with gratification and whispering praise.
