"No, that’s not what we ant." Seeing that Xu Ke was about to send them ho, Tangtang quickly spoke up.
"Then what do you an?" Xu Ke really didn’t understand what they were thinking. They looked worried and not happy at all.
"It’s nothing." Guoguo tugged at Tangtang, who was about to speak, and stopped her words in her throat before she could say anything.
Xu Ke had already helped them a lot today. They had nothing to repay him with, yet they continued to burden him with their negative energy, even hoping he would help them again. It was really too greedy; having soone willing to help them once was already their good luck. Asking for a second or third ti was unacceptable, even if he said nothing. It wasn’t the right thing to do. They shouldn’t overstep bounds, as that would reflect poorly on their character.
They had already lost enough. If they lost their dignity as well, what would they have left? In just a few blinks of an eye, their minds were flooded with thoughts.
Tangtang seed to understand her sister’s aning when she t her gaze. With a bit of grievance in her eyes, she swallowed her words.
She didn’t really expect Xu Ke to help her again and again. She just thought Xu Ke was a nice person and wanted to share with him, both the good and the bad.
After tonight, she and Guoguo should get back on track. At the start, she might rember what she was like at the beginning, but in ti she might forget herself, or perhaps reach the end of her life before she had a chance to forget. She just simply didn’t want others to forget her or to leave the world without having left any trace behind, even without anyone to rember her.
But if Guoguo didn’t want her to say anything, then she wouldn’t.
Tangtang lowered her head, becoming silent like a mute, and made a silent resolution within herself—that she would only speak to Xu Ke when the urge to share disappeared.
The evening breeze softly swept over the three walking side by side, dissipating much of the sisters’ inner anxiety.
"Just say what you want to say. Don’t bottle it up; you’re still young. Be careful not to harm yourself by holding it in," Xu Ke’s voice reached them with the breeze.
"Don’t say it like that. You don’t look that old yourself," Guoguo said, looking up and seriously observing Xu Ke’s features. Finally, she shook her head and seriously refuted his words.
Looking at Guoguo’s large, bright eyes, round like glass spheres, Xu Ke smiled and reached out to tousle her hair.
Guoguo’s eyes were clear, as clear as a spring where you can see the bottom and even the fish swimming happily. Xu Ke liked this kind of gaze, one he rarely saw. It made him want to protect her. Eyes like these shouldn’t have any shadow in them; they should remain pure and unsullied.
This feeling ca on strongly, though inexplicably. Xu Ke wasn’t soone who liked to hold back his feelings. Since he wanted to do sothing, he would just follow his heart.
"How much gambling debt do your parents owe?" Xu Ke asked.
Though she didn’t know why Xu Ke asked, Guoguo answered honestly while nervously fidgeting with her fingernails. "I think it’s about three hundred thousand, but I don’t know if they gambled today. If they did, it might be more, possibly even doubled."
Upon ntioning their parents, who continued to gamble and didn’t take the situation seriously, even after forcing their daughters to sacrifice their futures, Guoguo and Tangtang both showed bitter expressions.
"So what are you going to do about it? Live like this forever? Do you have no desire to change?" Xu Ke asked.
"How could we not want to change? Sotis I even wish I could just be an animal, but it’s a delusion, just like our plans for the future. Our parents crush any hope. The mont we entered the club, all plans vanished. What choice do we have but to accept it?" Tangtang said dejectedly.
"I want to pay off the three hundred thousand and not deal with them anymore, but that day seems far off. Even if I manage to do it, escape isn’t guaranteed," Guoguo sighed.
"If you trust , I can help clear that debt for you," Xu Ke said, looking at the sisters.
"Clear it?"
"Yes, aning I’ll pay off the debt for you," Xu Ke nodded, confirming their disbelief.
Tangtang’s face reflected a mixture of confusion, disbelief, and delayed joy. Guoguo felt the sa but recovered quicker than Tangtang.
"We can’t do that. We just t today. How can we let you spend so much? It’s three hundred thousand, not thirty!"
Seeing Guoguo’s eyes pleading with him, Xu Ke’s desire to protect them grew stronger.
"If three hundred thousand can give you a happy life, then it’s worth it. In the bank, it’s just a number that earns interest. Comparing a number to two girls’ lives, which is more precious?" Xu Ke’s question moved the girls to tears.
A stranger they t today showed them such kindness, yet their parents valued gambling over their daughters’ lives. This understanding ward the sisters but also left them cold.
The warmth was from Xu Ke, the coldness from their parents. They couldn’t understand what they had done in a past life to deserve such parents in this one.
