Chapter 982: Emptiness
Arabel’s avatar and everyone else, including Lucinda, watched Irene with bated breath. She was floating inside a Sphere of Void with her eyes closed.
It was obvious that Irene had successfully passed the Ascension Trial.
Arslan couldn’t contain his joy and smile.
anwhile, Arabel, after learning about the Void Elent from the System and seeing the similarities between Irene’s trial and her own trial with Idan, felt uneasy.
Both the trials that she and Idan had passed had always brought not only huge benefits, but also their own problems. Knowing this, Arabel couldn’t help but think that the Elent of Void could sohow affect Irene.
Her anxiety increased when Irene abruptly opened her eyes, and everyone saw the black-and-white hypnotic spirals spinning.
Alarms sounded for all the Awakened Ones, and the Systems strongly advised not to look into Irene’s eyes.
Even Lucinda, the strongest in the group, felt the thrill of the sphere around Irene, and her instincts warned of the potential danger lurking in her eyes.
Arabel and Arslan, despite the danger, could not take their eyes off Irene, who was carefully examining her surroundings with her hypnotic eyes.
Her face showed no emotion, and her eyes, despite the spinning spirals, seed empty.
Finally, her gaze wavered slightly, settling on the young man in front of her.
The Sphere of Void around her began to dissipate, and Irene smoothly landed down, without taking her eyes off Arslan.
Arslan’s heart was racing with concern for Irene, barely restraining himself from rushing to her and hugging her.
Irene’s altered eyes seed to hypnotize him, and unlike the others, Arslan did not feel any threat.
He didn’t stop smiling, not wanting to show Irene his concern.
Suddenly, an invisible force picked him up, lifted him into the air, and before he could figure anything out, he was in front of Irene at arm’s length.
At the sa mont, Irene wrapped him in a tight hug and hugged him tightly.
Irene’s hug was so strong that it felt like they squeezed all the air out of his lungs, and his bones began to crack. But he didn’t resist or make a sound, only surprise and joy filled him.
Clinging to him, Irene absorbed the warmth of his body and inhaled his scent, enjoying every mont.
The emptiness that filled Irene’s thoughts began to disappear, and bright colors began to appear in them.
Her cold body, like a sponge, absorbed Arslan’s warmth, and dull feelings began to revive inside.
Closing her eyes, Irene completely surrendered to these feelings, not wanting to let go of Arslan. At the sa ti, she began to rember who she really was, and as soon as the image of her son appeared in her mind, the desire to see him beca unbearable.
“My son,” she said, tearing herself away from Arslan with difficulty and opening her eyes, which had regained their forr brown light, but still seed empty and dim. “I… I want to see him,” she expressed her wish.
Arslan, seeing that Irene’s condition remained unstable and seeing her sincere desire, turned to Arabel’s avatar.
“Sister,” he called.
Arabel wordlessly created a barrier, and then, with a wave of her hand, opened an Access Portal leading directly to the Kingdom.
“Let’s go back and see our son,” Arslan suggested, and Irene nodded eagerly in response.
When Arslan tried to free himself from her tight embrace, Irene only hugged him closer, afraid to let go.
She clung to him like a lifeline. It seed to her that if she did this, she would find herself back in the void and would not be able to get out of it.
Irene’s condition seed vaguely familiar to Arslan, but he quickly dismissed these thoughts, deciding to focus on what was happening here and now.
In the end, they hugged each other tightly and stepped through the portal, returning to the Kingdom.
After exiting the portal on the other side, Arabel’s true body teleported them both directly to their ho.
Once in a familiar place, Irene finally loosened her grip a little. Her eyes road around, as if trying to rember everything.
“Ah, Irene, Arslan, you’re back,” Ivette suddenly appeared in front of them, gently cradling her grandson in her arms.
Irene’s gaze lingered on her mother for a mont, but then she turned her attention to the little creature she was holding. Her heart skipped a beat.
“My son,” she said, releasing Arslan and appearing in front of her mother, which greatly frightened her.
Ivette instinctively took a step back, covering her grandson. Irene’s hand, reaching out to her son, trembled, and, left alone, she began to tremble.
It was at this mont that Arslan ran up to her and hugged her back.
“Irene, I’m here. I’m with you,” he said, and Irene, feeling his warmth again, hugged him tightly, without taking her eyes off her son.
Ivette was very worried about her daughter’s condition. She had never seen her like this before, confused and scared.
“Irene, Arslan, what’s going on?” she asked anxiously.
After giving Irene so ti to recover, Arslan raised his head and addressed Ivette, “Irene has passed the Ascension Trial and reached the Platinum Rank.”
“This trial was special, and she has not yet recovered from its consequences,” Arslan briefly explained.
“Let’s go in and sit for a while, okay?” he suggested, leading Irene into the living room, and Ivette followed them.
After settling on the sofa, Arslan turned his gaze to Ivette. Seeing her daughter staring at her son and eting Arslan’s gaze, Ivette, with so apprehension, carefully handed her grandson into his mother’s arms.
Irene’s hands were shaking.
Only the feeling of Arslan’s embrace brought her so comfort.
Taking her son in her arms, feeling his tiny weight, the warmth of his body and the familiar sll, a tear flowed from Irene’s eyes.
She was crying silently, tenderly hugging her son.
Gradually, she began to co back to reality.
“Thank you,” she said softly, addressing soone invisible.
Arslan and Ivette looked at each other in surprise, not understanding whom she was thanking.
“Thank you,” Irene repeated. “Thank you for not letting go back there and bringing back to my son.”
[It’s my responsibility, Host], — replied the one to whom Irene’s gratitude was intended.
By this point, Irene had already realized that it was her System that had pulled her out of the abyss of emptiness, preventing her from dissolving into it.
If it wasn’t for the System, she would have just disappeared there.
With the realization of the void ca the realization that all this ti her System had been protecting her, preventing her from using the power of the void, her original basic elent, which she had possessed since awakening and activating the Esper System.
