Capítulo 1876: Chapter 2077: Are You Human or a Ghost?!
Half an hour later, the well-known God of Death of the dark world, barefoot and wrapped in pajamas, walked to Wang Shuangshuang’s neighborhood under the strange gazes of passersby. He almost got mistaken for a hooligan by the security guard. Had he not been articulate and able to accurately state the location of the building and the resident, he might have been stopped at the gate.
Then he took the elevator, where people mistook him for a vagrant, tossing a few yuan in front of him. But after seeing Hao Jian’s eyes full of killing intent, they sprinted out hastily the mont the elevator door opened.
Soon after, Hao Jian arrived at Wang Shuangshuang’s doorstep and knocked on the door. That night, his ho had been bombed, leaving him with no cash or bank cards on hand. It wasn’t possible for him to stay at Liang Yuwei’s house, since her father was still ho. So, he thought of Wang Shuangshuang.
After all, this was still his house; he had rented it to her. Plus, he hadn’t co to collect rent in so many days, so staying for a night wouldn’t be an issue.
He knocked on the door, but the person inside was anxiously making phone calls. She had been ready to sleep, but then her phone pushed a news alert. As she looked at it, she was instantly dumbfounded—wasn’t that Hao Jian’s house that had been bombed? Although the pictures were ambiguous and didn’t show the location clearly, the marked address was sothing she definitely rembered as Hao Jian’s ho.
Comparing the photo, this was indeed Hao Jian’s house. Knowing it was Hao Jian’s ho that had been bombed, she imdiately froze, her brain suddenly lacking oxygen. Any sleepy feeling vanished abruptly, and instinctively she dialed Hao Jian’s number to see if he was okay.
But, from the beginning until now, the phone was unreachable. Even when it connected, no one answered. Her heart suddenly panicked, an inexplicable sense of panic surging from within. She kept hoping Hao Jian wasn’t ho when the accident happened, so he wouldn’t be hard.
Yet, things seed to be moving in the opposite direction. If he wasn’t ho, he should’ve answered the phone by now. One or two tis he might not hear it, but she’s called so many tis, and from the ti of the incident until now, over half an hour, she hasn’t stopped calling.
However, even so, no one answered the phone. Her heart tightened, starting to think in the opposite direction. If Hao Jian truly got into trouble, she didn’t have much of a connection with him, apart from daily interactions; there was essentially no deeper contact.
Yet, for so reason, her heart hurt so much. If Hao Jian were truly in trouble, she’d feel incredibly sad. She regrets how she treated him at the hospital that day. But seeing him with other won did make her angry; otherwise, she wouldn’t have acted that way. Although she didn’t get any benefit from the situation, in fact, she suffered.
Thinking this, a wave of sadness washed over her. If Hao Jian really got into trouble, then their eting in the hospital would have been their last. In that eting, she didn’t treat Hao Jian well. Instead, she was fierce, threatening him with a surgical knife, saying she’d cut him there.
Even though she found him annoying on normal days, after not seeing him for a while, she missed him, finding herself wanting to et him. In retrospect, Hao Jian was quite good; he handled many troubles for her, saving her from much hassle.
Including her current residence, which Hao Jian gave her. Without him, she’d be unsure of her situation, likely getting squeezed out at the hospital, unable to remain with no salary, and unable to afford rent, potentially needing to find another path.
Thinking of this, then considering the high possibility that Hao Jian had t his end, her mood beca very sorrowful. She decided to make one last phone call; if it still went unanswered, she’d have to head to Hao Jian’s place, maybe to see the body one last ti.
As she thought, she dialed the last call, her hand sweating on the sofa, heartbeat uncontrollable. anwhile, there was a knock at the door. But at this mont, she had no mood to answer the door, irregardless of who it might be. The most important thing now was to call Hao Jian to confirm his safety.
“Beep!” The phone rang.
Hao Jian stood at the door, feeling perplexed why no one answered despite knocking and then seeing Wang Shuangshuang call, he didn’t hesitate to pick up the phone.
“Hello!”
Just when Wang Shuangshuang felt deeply distressed and was ready to hang up to go pay her final respects, suddenly the call connected, with a familiar voice coming through. Frightened, she jumped off the sofa.
“You? Is it you?” After calming down, Wang Shuangshuang asked uncertainly.
She had called for so long with no answer, convinced in her heart that Hao Jian was gone, yet suddenly hearing his voice, she was both surprised and scared. Was this the living Hao Jian speaking, or was it an auditory hallucination, or perhaps the voice of deceased Hao Jian? She was utterly shocked.
Hao Jian, standing outside the door, had no idea what she had been through. He just thought she was being neurotic, so he shouted back, “You, you, you, what’s with you? I’m knocking at your door and you still won’t open it. Are you afraid I’m here to collect rent? Let tell you, I’m here to collect rent this ti. Open the door now!”
Wang Shuangshuang was imdiately surprised. Was nothing wrong? Then why wouldn’t he answer the phone!? What do you an outside the door, could it have been Hao Jian who knocked earlier?
Wang Shuangshuang looked utterly shocked. Earlier, she had been so preoccupied with calling Hao Jian to confirm his safety that despite hearing the knocking, she didn’t feel like opening the door. She didn’t expect that the person knocking outside was the very Hao Jian she was worried about.
“Really?” she still felt skeptical, “Are you human or ghost now!?”
Hao Jian’s face flared with anger. Damn, I’ve co a long way to find you, and you won’t even open the door for , let alone now you’re wishing dead. Damn you!
“Do you want dead so badly? Open the door, it’s freezing. If you don’t open it, I’m going to kick it down and co in. If you’re not dressed and I see sothing, I won’t care. I’m going to count to three and if you still haven’t opened it, I’m breaking in!” Hao Jian said righteously.
However, as soon as he reached three, the door swung open. He looked earnestly at Wang Shuangshuang, while she stared at him in astonishnt.
At first, she didn’t say anything, then put her phone back in her pocket, took a few steps forward, and pinched a piece of flesh on Hao Jian’s face, squeezing it hard, leaving him in pain and bewildered. Could this girl have gone mad? What’s she doing in the middle of the night!
Wang Shuangshuang, pinching Hao Jian and hearing him cry out in pain, finally released her hand, then looked at him with bewildernt. What’s going on? The news said the bomb left the house in ruins and there was no way anyone could have survived. She had already prepared for the worst, assuming Hao Jian was gone. But now, seeing him standing and talking in front of her, she couldn’t process it all.
But hearing Hao Jian cry out in pain from being pinched, it felt too real to be fake. He’s alive, not dead. But how did he manage to survive such a situation? She looked puzzled.
Hao Jian thought this woman was acting a bit crazy tonight, didn’t want to bother with her, touched the sore spot on his face where she pinched, it hurt like hell. This woman was really harsh. He rolled his eyes at her and walked straight into the house. It was the middle of the night, he was wearing pajamas, barefoot, freezing cold. Now he needed to warm up inside.
Wang Shuangshuang watched Hao Jian walk in with a puzzled expression and quietly shut the door. Her attention had previously been focused solely on whether Hao Jian was alive. Now that she had confird this was the living Hao Jian and not a ghost, her focus shifted to other things.
And then she looked and realized that Hao Jian was wearing thin pajamas and bare feet. She snapped back to reality, grabbed a pair of cotton slippers from the shoe cupboard for Hao Jian, then fetched a big quilt and tossed it to him.
The weather wasn’t actually that cold; it was just that the temperature varied greatly between day and night, making evenings a bit chilly. Hao Jian had been outside barefoot in thin pajamas for so long, he was already cold, so when he put on the cotton slippers and wrapped up in the big quilt, he shivered unexpectedly.
“Damn, that’s warm!”
Wang Shuangshuang looked at him, puzzled, and asked, “How… how did you escape!?”
Hao Jian paused, then used the sa story he told Liang Yuwei, “Oh, I couldn’t sleep, so I went for a nightti run outside the community. Who knew I’d escape death this way.”
Wang Shuangshuang imdiately understood upon hearing this. So that’s how it was.
“Then, why didn’t you answer when I kept calling!” Wang Shuangshuang asked.
Hao Jian scratched his head, unable to answer for a mont, then quickly diverted her attention, saying, “Ah, I’m holess now, been cold outside for so long, and as soon as you pull , you’re asking this and that. I’m freezing to death; could you get a cup of hot water?”
