Chapter 1172: Chapter 924: 1.2 Million for a Needle Chapter 1172: Chapter 924: 1.2 Million for a Needle Li Yingtong could never have imagined that Yang Ping, the illustrious creator of the spatial orientation gene theory, was actually a surgeon whose primary work was performing surgeries, and that his experints were only done in his spare ti.

After the interview, when Yang Ping wanted to have a private chat with her, Li Yingtong arrived early at the Surgical Research Institute’s ward, where Yang Ping was conducting dical rounds with a team of doctors. He asked Li Yingtong to wait a little longer in the teaching classroom.

After finishing the rounds and checking on each patient, it was determined that the condition of Jiang Li had stabilized. She had just been transferred back from the ICU to the General Surgery Departnt ward. Her vital signs were stable, there was no fever, and her blood pressure was completely normal. She had already accumulated dical expenses of over 800,000 yuan in the ICU, but by transferring back to the general ward, her family could stay with her. Her three older sisters and two sisters-in-law took turns caring for Jiang Li. She had a brother who wasn’t married yet, exempt from the duty of standing vigil; it wasn’t about saving money on hiring a caregiver, it was about the siblings expressing their care.

The surface ultrasound examination beside the bed showed that the volu of Jiang Li’s liver had increased significantly compared to the first day after surgery, and it was expected to reach normal size within about two weeks.

After transferring Jiang Li back to the General Surgery ward, the ICU doctors made a detour to report on Jiang Li’s treatnt situation.

Being busy with other matters, Yang Ping had Song Zimo receive the report. After the briefing, he chatted with Zhang Lin about the patient who had previously fallen from a height. Although the patient had been saved and transferred back to the trauma orthopedics ward, he remained paralyzed in bed. Because his wife neither paid the dical bills nor ca to arrange discharge, the police had been asked several tis to notify his family, but his wife never showed up.

Director Zhao said if she didn’t co to pick him up soon, they would send the patient directly to his ho, but the police inford Director Zhao that the patient’s ho was always locked, and they didn’t know of the wife’s whereabouts.

This issue was tough to handle. If the man had been healthy, he could have made a living after discharge and would not have gone hungry, but now he was a paralyzed patient. Without soone to take over his care, how could they send him out?

The hospital sought help from the Civil Affairs Bureau, only for them to say that they could take care of a “three-noes” person, but as he had a wife and a ho, this was the result of a family dispute, and not within their scope of assistance.

What to do? The patient could do nothing but lie there. His workplace initially sent soone and provided a donation on behalf of the company, but afterward, no one ca to visit.

Once Yang Ping finished his other duties and saw it was the appointed ti, he imdiately went to the teaching classroom.

The teaching classroom had only Yang Ping and Li Yingtong. This was a private job discussion with her.

“Today is not a professional interview; it is just an informal chat. Your singing is beautiful! I’m truly impressed that you are also an outstanding singer,” Yang Ping said with a smile.

Li Yingtong politely responded, “Thank you!”

“Is the backstory of your song true?” Yang Ping gently inquired.

Li Yingtong nodded.

“I’m sorry, have I dredged up sad mories for you?” Yang Ping apologized.

Li Yingtong shook her head, “It’s alright.”

Yang Ping spoke with deep aning, “If your grandmother knew you had completed your studies and returned to the country to contribute, she would be very comforted in another world, proud of you.”

Li Yingtong’s eyes were sowhat moist as she looked at him with a complex expression.

“Yes, I will make her proud,” she said.

“Have you visited our laboratory? Has Doctor Tang personally taken you to see it?” Yang Ping asked with concern.

“I have seen it. Doctor Tang personally guided us, and he explained everything in detail,” Li Yingtong composed herself from her brief sadness.

“Comparing the laboratories in the United States with ours, what are your thoughts?” Yang Ping inquired.

Li Yingtong thought for a mont, “I am puzzled as to why such an important lab is not secured, with no levels of access set for the research staff?”

“It’s simple: my research is not military or comrcial technology, but dical science for treating and saving lives. When any of my research results are mature, they will be announced to the world for free so that people everywhere can benefit. Why then should I secure it? I am eager for everyone to quickly master new research findings and spread them around the world,” he explained.

In fact, this was Yang Ping’s genuine thought. Part of his work remained undisclosed only because he was waiting for his next batch of research results, keeping him in a position of control. Only by being independent could people truly benefit. Doing good also requires thods.

“Have you ever thought that your achievents could make you the richest person in the world?” Li Yingtong asked inquisitively.

“I have never thought of it; money is aningless to . If research required no money, I’d have no interest in it,” Yang Ping slowly shook his head.

“Is your ideal to seek eternal life for humankind?” Li Yingtong posed this philosophical question.

“No! Eternal life? That’s too selfish! Everything goes through the process of arising, developing, and perishing, and no one can escape this law. The cycle of old and new in humanity is a natural law. Using Chinese philosophy, this is the way of heaven. If everyone lived forever, how could new life erge? How would civilization evolve? I simply hope that everyone can walk through their lives in good health, free from the tornt of illness, nothing more. I have never considered the question of eternal life,” Yang Ping said in a rational and thought-provoking tone.

“Professor Yang, I think the vast majority of people can’t just openly share their research achievents without compensation. People are generally selfish,” Li Yingtong said.

Yang Ping responded with a smile, “What is the aning of my research achievents if they don’t serve people well? The world needs so exceptions, right?”
