Now reading: Chapter 1280 - 1280 075 Tetris from Surgery Godfather, a Fantasy novel by Ocean And Summer.

Chapter 1280: Chapter 075: Tetris Chapter 1280: Chapter 075: Tetris In the demo room of the operating room in the dead of night, doctors filled the seats. The surgery had finally co to an end, leaving everyone a bit reluctant to part.

When it ca to other people’s robot-assisted surgeries, what you saw were two robotic arms working like human hands, coordinating left and right to perform the surgery. Essentially, it still followed the human operational model. It was obviously human-controlled, with the two arms manipulated from behind the scenes.

However, Professor Yang’s robot surgery today gave a strong impression that it wasn’t a person performing the surgery, but rather an actual intelligent robot. The coordination between multiple arms was beyond what one would associate with human control. The various maneuvers of the three robotic arms showcased a strong sense of chanical aesthetics.

Of course, the term “multi-arm thinking” was deeply ingrained in everyone’s minds because Director Fang, while explaining the surgery in the demo room, kept referring to the concept of multi-arm thinking. Being the core technology behind Yang Ping’s robot-assisted surgeries, this term naturally spread quickly.

After observing the surgery that night, Director Fang continuously pondered over “multi-arm thinking,” as if he had grasped so profound concept. Multi-arm thinking, damn it! I’ve only got two hands. How can I possibly attain multi-arm thinking?

Director Fang spread out his hands, and for a mont his mind beca muddled. Aren’t all human operations based on the use of two hands? How can one train for multi-arm operations? That’s simply untrainable.

Ou Lianfeng, having completed his surgery and equipped with an ECMO, was transferred to the ICU ward. Post-operative care in the ICU was much more convenient—a regular ward could not manage his post-operative supervision.

After the surgery, Yang Ping slept for a while in the departnt as dawn was fast approaching. He didn’t want to return ho and disturb his family at this hour. Xiao Su was in her postpartum confinent, which was tough on her, so it was crucial to ensure she had good sleep.

Lying in the on-call room’s bed, Yang Ping entered the System Space to reflect on issues regarding the surgical robots. The current Da Vinci surgical robot could be considered the most advanced and mature robot in the world, yet it was still only capable of mimicking human dual-arm operations, a system that was severely outdated and inefficient. Robots should have their own unique mode of operation.

Conversely, so highly demanding computer and mobile gas had already broken away from the dual-arm model, replaced by a new operational mode based on keyboards and touchscreens. One could think, if these gas still used the simplistic dual-arm operation mode, the richness, diversity, precision, and imdiacy of gaming controls would be greatly limited.

Ruixing dical had also invested massive funds into the developnt of surgical robots. Yang Ping had many ideas in his mind; the new generation of surgical robots would have to abandon the dual-arm operation mode. Instead, they would adopt a novel mode that would replace the obsolete thod, showcasing a range of operations that were rich, diverse, delicate, and imdiate. A single control panel could operate multiple robotic arms, breaking down actions into basic moves, which could then combine into countless advanced maneuvers.

Only in this way could ordinary doctors truly control several robotic arms simultaneously to complete a surgical step. As opposed to the traditional dual-arm operation, this would not only boost efficiency but also improve the quality of operations and lower the barrier of entry. Actions that were previously difficult or impossible to perform would beco extrely easy.

After contemplating the control thods for the surgical robots, so concepts in Yang Ping’s mind beca clearer, and he finally settled down to sleep. However, he didn’t sleep for long before he had to wake up again in the morning.

The next morning, Yang Ping went to check on the ICU. Director He of the Thoracic Surgery Departnt and Director Fang of the General Surgery Departnt were already there early, waiting. Director He didn’t want to call Yang Ping too early, hoping he could sleep a bit longer. But at the sa ti, he didn’t want to miss the first post-operative check-up, so he arrived at the ICU early to wait.

Director Fang from General Surgery simply slept in the on-call room of the ICU, instructing the duty doctor to notify him once Yang Ping ca for the round.

Now that Yang Ping was coming for the round, Director He went to the entrance to wait, while Director Fang was having breakfast. He placed three chopsticks in front of him, pondering how to use them to eat his breakfast. After so thought, he realized he only had two hands, not three, and that having three chopsticks was superfluous since he could effectively use only two of them.

By the sa logic, with the Da Vinci surgical robot’s four robotic arms—apart from one acting as a cara— the other three, like the chopsticks before him, were controlled by a person with only two hands, or a machine with just two main controllers. Therefore, only two robotic arms could be operated at any ti, while a third would be idling unless control was switched. But no matter how it was switched, it was still a case of three bottles with only two caps; there was always one robotic arm on standby.

The ICU doctor saw Director Fang staring blankly at the three chopsticks and reminded him, “Professor Yang is here for the round.”

Director Fang nodded but did not show much reaction.

“Professor Yang is here for the round!”

“Oh!”

Director Fang imdiately woke up, not even bothering with breakfast, and quickly donned an isolation gown to go to the ward, following Yang Ping to make rounds.

Ou Lianfeng’s vital signs were very stable after surgery, and Yang Ping decided to remove the ECMO 24 hours after surgery, letting the transplanted lungs start working. The sooner they began to function, the quicker the recovery would be.

After making rounds, Director Fang secretly asked Yang Ping, “Professor Yang, you’ve ntioned the concept of multi-arm operation several tis, and I’ve been pondering over it. How can two hands manipulate three chopsticks? I always feel that two chopsticks are the optimal solution, and three chopsticks seem purely superfluous, not only useless but also a burden, at most just a substitute.”

“Do you play computer gas?” Yang Ping thought for a mont and said.

Director Fang touched the back of his head and said with confusion, “I don’t play gas. I’ve never played with those things.”

Professor Yang suddenly brought up computer gas—could surgery be related to computer gas?

“If you don’t play computer gas, this is indeed a bit difficult to explain,” Yang Ping said with so difficulty.

The reason being that whenever there is a person operating, there will certainly only be two hands, but the Da Vinci Robot contrasted with computer gas in terms of control. The interdiary to final action in operating the Da Vinci surgical robot still simulates the operation of human arms.

Whereas, in computer gas, the operating interdiaries are the keyboard and mouse. Although also operated by two hands, the keyboard and mouse lead to final actions that have departed from the human dual-arm mode, adopting entirely the computer’s mode instead. Yang Ping’s multi-arm mode refers to the transmission from controlling interdiary to the final action; this control transmission chain must have its own mode for the surgical robot, not the dual-arm mode.

“However, I can play Tetris,” Director Fang quickly added.

Tetris is also a ga, isn’t it? It’s both a computer ga and a mobile ga; can’t it be played on computers and also on mobile phones?

“How well do you play?” asked Yang Ping further.

“Just at an able-to-play level,” Director Fang replied honestly.

Yang Ping imdiately said, “Alright, you set aside an hour each day this week to play Tetris. After a week, co and find , and I will tell you what multi-arm mode is. In fact, multi-arm mode shouldn’t be called multi-arm mode, it should be called machine mode. The term multi-arm mode is only used to distinguish it from dual-arm mode because a machine never transfers action in the pattern of two hands.”

“Play Tetris for a week?” Director Fang questioned whether he had heard wrong.

Yang Ping nodded, “Right, is that a problem for you?”

“No—no—problem, alright, I’ll play diligently for a week.”

“Professor Yang, I can play two hours of ‘King of Glory’ every day!”

Director He Xiangjun said proudly.

“You play ‘King of Glory’? Then co find in a bit, I’ll explain multi-arm mode to you,” Yang Ping said to Director He.

Director Fang’s face was a picture of bewildernt; damn it, He Xiangjun’s ability to play a bit of ‘King of Glory’ turned into an advantage, allowing him to receive the lecture imdiately, while he himself had to play Tetris for a week first.
