Chapter 1465: Chapter 1092: Sunrise Industry

Several laboratories’ research advanced simultaneously, and now Yang Ping was in no hurry, having grown accustod to days without systematic work. He also felt that his scientific inspirations were increasingly abundant, perhaps due to the period he had spent deeply engrossed in reading various books and papers, accumulating rich knowledge which led to a surge of new ideas.

At Yang Ping’s level as a Doctor, one has not only to perform surgeries but also engage in scientific research. This is a mandatory rule in all major teaching hospitals like Sanbo Hospital, required for advancent in professional titles. Of course, Yang Ping is not worried about his professional titles; his research aims solely to solve dical difficulties.

After completing a surgery, Yang Ping rembered that it had been a long ti since he visited the Journal office, although he frequently visited the laboratory but seldom the Journal office, despite both being in the sa building.

After the establishnt of the dical Journal, it was handed over to Tang Shun for managent. But now, a professional chief editor runs it, selected by Tang Shun. This chief editor, nad Mao Mingli, forrly a deputy chief editor at one of Beijing’s top dostic journals, is proficient in languages like English, Spanish, and French. A PhD graduate from Capital dical University with international study experience, he is extrely suitable for the role of chief editor of the dical Journal. Initially, Tang Shun thought to visit him thrice as per an old saying, but just after one visit the deal was struck, and the next day Mao resigned from his previous job and started working here, seeming eager not to miss the opportunity.

Chief Editor Mao is very career-oriented. After joining Sanbo Hospital, he managed the dical Journal strictly according to international top-tier journal standards.

Tang Shun accompanied Yang Ping to the Journal office, where Chief Editor Mao was pleasantly surprised by the honor of their visit, feeling as though a spring breeze couldn’t enter the Yun Pass. Professor Yang rarely visited, and hence, everyone was excited today.

Yang Ping was familiar with every face in the laboratory, but quite unfamiliar with the Journal staff. Though he had talked with Chief Editor Mao a few tis, he didn’t recognize the other editors. These individuals were young yet experienced, having worked for several years in relevant dical journals post-graduation, all recruited by Mao Mingli.

Although Tang Shun was initially in charge when the dical Journal was established, it was a temporary arrangent. Now, the Journal office is entirely run by Chief Editor Mao, who, like the laboratory, has considerable autonomy. This autonomy likely contributed to his enthusiasm. Yang Ping’s visit was just symbolic and he did not intervene substantially, adhering to the principle that professional matters should be handled by professionals to avoid upsetting the balance.

After completing surgery, Song Zimo returned to the Doctor’s office where an old classmate had been waiting for him early. This was Xiang Xiaofeng, his roommate during his study at Fudan dical College. Post-graduation, Xiang didn’t beco a doctor; instead, he started a dical paper interdiary company, now generating tens of millions annually, much more than what doctors make.

“It’s been a while, brother.” It indeed had been a long ti since Song Zimo had last seen this roommate.

The old classmate visited Song Zimo to catch up on old tis; however, he was actually hoping to connect with the dical Journal. This young entrepreneur had collaborations with major dical journals nationwide and only lacked a partnership with the dical Journal, hence he hoped this visit could break the ice.

The dical Journal, though newly created, was highly popular and had many interested regular clients. If he could open this door, the company’s revenue would find a new growth point, and the growth could be quite rapid.

In a private room at a Grilled Fish Restaurant near the Hospital, the two sat down to eat and chat.

“Brother, we used to share a dorm room; you surely must help ,” Xiang Xiaofeng began directly, as they had already discussed this on the phone.

Song Zimo shook his head: “It’s not that I don’t want to help you, brother, but this matter is not up for discussion. Our dical Journal’s reviewers are top professors from around the world, and we uphold the principle of independent reviewing. Thus, I can’t interfere.”

Xiang Xiaofeng grinned, “Young Master Song, don’t joke with . I know you are the second-in-command at the Surgical Research Institute at Sanbo Hospital, and I’ve heard that Professor Yang usually doesn’t get involved, leaving you in charge of daily managent. This should just be a word from you. If you’re willing, how could they conduct independent reviewing?”

“Really, I can’t, old classmate, I’m willing but unable,” replied Song.

“Don’t rush to agree to help just yet. If you sort this out for , half the profit from each deal our journal closes in the future will be yours, I an it for every single deal. Brother, you know the market situation in this industry. This inco will be much higher than what you earn at work. I know Young Master Song is not short on money, but this is my heartfelt offer, what do you think?” Xiang Xiaofeng, a businessman, knew that the best way to persuade soone was by presenting benefits that align interests, making things easier when benefits were aligned.

“It’s not about the money, if I could sort this out, I wouldn’t need your money to do so. Currently, I really can’t do this.” Being forrly roommates made it easier for Song Zimo to be direct.

“Really not possible?”

Xiang Xiaofeng was puzzled. He had managed countless journals before; why was the Journal from Sanbo Hospital being so rigid? It seed improbable; were they being serious?

“Really not possible, so please don’t make it difficult for .”

Song Zimo still saying the sa thing.

“Alright, I just don’t get it, can’t you guys play it for real? There isn’t any manipulation involved?”

“Really, there’s no manipulation, we truly handle independent reviews, and the list of reviewers is strictly confidential, employing a rigorous double-blind system.”

“You run a Chinese journal, and the reviewers are all in the country, right? So, how about this, bro, you give the na of a reviewer, just the na is enough, I’ll handle the rest, one na, bro, for this amount.” Xiang Xiaofeng stretched out three fingers, then dipped his finger in water and wrote down three hundred thousand on the table.

Song Zimo smiled: “You really shouldn’t be looking to manipulate our journal, we don’t engage in those shenanigans. Professor Yang hates such foul play the most, you wouldn’t want to get in trouble.”

Since it’s co to this point, it would be tactless for Xiang Xiaofeng to bring it up again.

“Co on, let’s drink!”

“Let’s drink!”

The two caught up on old tis, with Xiang Xiaofeng having seized the opportunities of the era, pinpointing the market’s pain points, and thriving in business. His company dealt with a variety of services but mainly focused on helping doctors acquire professional titles through research papers, offering a one-stop service that’s very professional, making over ten million in pure profit annually, indicative of a booming market.

“Didn’t you say last ti that a brother of yours was desperately needing a project and papers to get promoted to associate professor? How co you never ntioned it again, did you manage to sort it out? If not, leave it to , I’ll make sure everything is sorted.”

“Stop it, that brother of mine has totally given up, he’s resigned himself to being a senior doctor forever, there’s no helping him.”

“People are still so stubborn these days?”

“Yeah, he’s just inflexible.”

“I’ll help him for free.”

“He wouldn’t do it even for free, can you imagine how frustrating that is?”

“Back in our dorm days, the few of us brothers each went our separate ways, Ren Mingyi went to the United States, Shao Gaohun stayed in Shanghai to work in chest surgery, still striving for associate professor, and you’ve made a na for yourself now.”

“Not bad!”

“Heard you’ve bought a place in Shanghai?”

“Yes, got a 300-square-ter duplex, the market’s been really hot these past few years, made a bit of money, but still, being a professor like you guys is better.”

“That’s amazing! A 300-square-ter place in Shanghai?”

“Had no choice, I’m not like you, you co from a wealthy family, this bit of money doesn’t matter to you, I couldn’t afford to wait, had to take a chance with a small business, I started with just a computer and a phone, gradually expanded to this scale. Initially, the plan was simple, the dical path was too slow, I couldn’t wait, was eager to make money, so had to turn to business. If it had failed, worst case, I’d sell dicine, with so many classmates in the dical field, I figured I could at least make a living selling dicine.”

“You’ve always been quite insightful, you probably would have made a fortune selling dicine too.”

“Selling dicine these past few years hasn’t been great, the market’s too weak, a lot of familiar faces dealing in dicines and dical equipnt have switched to my field, my industry is still considered a promising one, as long as it can stay hot for another ten years there’ll be no problem.”
