Chapter 1534: Chapter 1138: The Stubborn Y Chromoso (Part 2)

”Brother, why do I feel like the Nobel Prize is beckoning ? Even if I can’t win it, I can still make so significant findings.” Little Five stared ahead with wide eyes.

Zhang Lin touched his forehead, “Are you okay? Sure you’re not running a fever? I don’t have aspirations for any awards. If I can publish one or two top-tier papers, I’d be content.”

“You’re lacking confidence.” Little Five shook his head.

Little Five started pondering the genetics knowledge that Yang Ping had just explained.

Normal humans have 23 pairs of chromosos, 22 pairs of autosos, and 1 pair of sex chromosos. Males have XY sex chromosos, while females have XX. The Y chromoso is smaller than the X chromoso, generally about one-third the size of the X chromoso.

The Y chromoso evolved from the X chromoso over a long evolutionary process, approximately 166 million years ago.

During evolution, the greatest task of the Y chromoso was to resist gene recombination in the evolutionary process.

Almost all homologous genes undergo gene recombination during the formation of reproductive cells. This is a ans to increase biological diversity. However, the Y chromoso, having finally evolved from the X chromoso, certainly couldn’t revert and undergo recombination.

Moreover, current research suggests that recombination between the X and Y chromosos is harmful to offspring. It could lead male progeny to lose essential genes on the Y chromoso and female progeny to acquire so non-essential genes on the X chromoso.

To maintain its independence, the Y chromoso must resist recombination. Thus, it devised a thod for internal Y-Y recombination. Through this continuous internal recombination, genes beneficial to males gradually gathered near the sex-determining genes on the Y chromoso, and a new protective chanism developed in this area to protect its gene segnts and prevent recombination with the X chromoso.

The Y chromoso continues moving in this direction, constantly establishing its independence and inhibiting recombination with the X chromoso. To date, the Y chromoso has lost all genes capable of recombination, leaving 60 million base pairs of essence, about 95% of which are genes determining male characteristics—highly closed off and unable to recombine with X genes.

This stability has beco a key technology in modern forensic science, such as the Y-STR family investigation technology. This technology uses the stability of Y chromoso genes to ascertain soone’s origin from a certain family.

By extracting an individual’s cells, such as saliva, hair, skin flakes, bloodstains, etc., for genetic testing, one can quickly and accurately determine from which family this individual originates. Combined with the family gene database and investigation technology, it is possible to trace to which village or family the suspect belongs.

If disease-causing genes differ from male characteristic genes, and if they can detach from the Y chromoso, it suggests that humans, during evolution, are using this chanism to self-treat genetic diseases. If true, using this principle might treat certain genetic diseases or at least prevent their transmission to the next generation.

What a magnificent discovery! Little Five excitedly punched the air.

Of course, it wasn’t himself he was hitting, but Zhang Lin’s shoulder, causing Zhang Lin to cry out in pain.

“Brother Five, what are you doing?”

“Throughout history, many scientists have made huge sacrifices to advance dicine. Your shoulder is a small price to pay.”

Sanbo Hospital falls under the direct administration of Beijing, and higher-level leaders have not yet inspected Sanbo Hospital. They have their considerations; a genius like Yang Ping dislikes bureaucracy, so they try not to disturb him or Sanbo Hospital, providing support quietly instead. If they have any opinions, they relay them through Dean Xia. They are opinions, not instructions.

The upper-level leadership is very open-minded and does not want to interfere with Yang Ping’s genius judgnt with their opinions.

Their approach is to give him the best platform, resources, and protection while letting him work freely. Geniuses need tolerance and freedom, not guidance and managent.

Currently, China still lags significantly behind developed countries in dical technology. Yang Ping decides to contribute in this area by shifting his focus from surgical operations to scientific research.

Yang Ping has a deep passion for surgery, but focusing solely on surgeries would waste his unique talent.

Performing surgery contributes very little to the developnt of science. Surgeries are largely repetitive, and even improving surgical techniques or revolutionizing procedures are re slight improvents on existing technologies, not major innovations.

He must apply his abilities where they matter most, leading dical innovation. As for surgeries, his future task is primarily to train students.

This is why Yang Ping has entrusted most of the surgeries to Song Zimo and Xu Zhiliang, teaching his surgical skills to others. This replication-based training model expands the reach of his surgical expertise.

Moreover, a larger group can be ford for advanced training, raising the skill level of doctors nationwide, which is far better than his singular high skill level.

By teaching his surgical techniques to a group of outstanding doctors, these doctors, in turn, teach a batch of students. This dissemination can elevate the overall standard of the doctor industry, thereby fully utilizing his surgical skills.

Yang Ping shared this idea with Dean Xia and Professor Su, who greatly supported it. They believed that the cooperation of school, hospital, and institute could establish a systematic cultivation platform.

For instance, Nandu dical University could conduct all its eight-year doctoral programs at Sanbo Hospital for clinical training. Sanbo Hospital could set up a Talent Developnt Plan to recruit nationwide talents.

This would build a continuous, systematic training system rather than sporadic developnt.

Dean Xia and Professor Su discussed briefly and instantly agreed, initiating the plan. They could also seek support from national health departnts, making this a national training program sustained over ten, twenty, or thirty years. Imagine how many outstanding doctors could be cultivated!

In terms of dical research, Yang Ping could personally formulate a grand strategic plan, leveraging national power to implent it. This approach could not only solve many strategic issues in dicine but also nurture nurous exceptional dical talents.

He was determined to play a strategic role, not just a tactical one. Yang Ping pondered this for a long ti, crafted a comprehensive plan, and submitted it.

Soon after, Beijing responded: agreeing with Professor Yang’s opinions, offering strong support to Yang’s endeavors without any ceiling, and coordinating with Yang’s plan.

To establish a system, the upper authorities separated the research institute from Sanbo Hospital, elevating it to a national top research institution and renad it Southern dical Science Academy, appointing Yang Ping as its chief scientist.

Sanbo Hospital and the original affiliated hospitals of Nandu dical University beca its affiliated hospitals, and Nandu dical University its affiliated university, forming a large triangular relationship centered around the Southern dical Science Academy.

This reform clarified the relationship between Sanbo Hospital, Nandu dical University, and the Sanbo Research Institute, and established Yang Ping’s status in science and technology, affirming the Academy’s nature as a purely research institution.

The governnt also allotted a piece of land for the dical Science Academy to establish a Super Research Institute, which would boast imnse office space, equipnt, and talent team scale, allowing Yang Ping to maximize his potential.

This aligned perfectly with Yang Ping’s vision; he had always imagined establishing a super research institute.

Professor Su also reford the entire Nandu dical University to keep pace with Yang Ping’s plans since so adjustnts couldn’t be resolved by rely establishing a training class; the system, culture, etc., must be compatible.

Principal Ruo had laid a solid foundation for Nandu dical University during his tenure. However, his kind nature ant the reforms progressed slowly, without harsh asures against the unsuitable.

But Professor Su was different. Though gentle in appearance, he had a sharp and decisive style. He excelled both academically and in managent, resolutely advancing reforms based on Principal Ruo’s foundation.
