Huang Jiacai sat in the large executive chair, fiddling with an unlit cigar, his mind contemplating the intelligence he had just received—a detailed report on the recent situation of Dr. Walker, the chief scientist of BG Group.
According to the report, he was emotionally downcast, shut indoors, and had rarely lost his temper in the laboratory... these fragnts pieced together an image of a genius scientist on the brink of collapse.
"Walker..." Huang Jiacai murmured the na softly.
He admired Dr. Walker’s talent; Walker was one of the few within BG Group who not only mastered technology but also thought about problems from a strategic perspective.
However, it was precisely such a steering-level scientist that was now deeply self-doubting due to being crushed by cognitive dinsions and having his dignity swept away. This was a strategic benefit for Sanbo and the Wall-breaking Alliance.
But Huang Jiacai saw not just the opportunity to weaken an opponent, but a deeper level of planning.
Dr. Walker becoming like this was precisely what Huang Jiacai wanted; one could say everything was under his control.
A few days later, a seemingly ordinary international flight landed in Zurich. An Asian-faced middle-aged man flowed out of the airport with the crowd, dressed simply like a business traveler or scholar. In a nondescript corner of an old town café in Zurich, he t the weary-looking, wary-eyed Walker.
"Dr. Walker, long ti no see." The man said softly in fluent English, without shaking hands, just pushing a seemingly ordinary U-disk across the desktop, "A friend asked to bring you a ssage and so materials you might find interesting."
Walker’s fingers trembled slightly, not imdiately reaching for the U-disk. "Who? Professor Yang Ping?"
The man smiled faintly, neither confirming nor denying: "He admires your talent. He believes the boundaries of science should not be confined by comrcial barriers and narrow competition. The environnt you’re in may not be fertile ground for your wisdom to fully flourish." He paused, observing Walker’s struggling expression, then continued, "He asked to convey to you that serving a fortress trying to lock down the future is a loss to scientists worldwide. If you’re confused about the future, we’re always open to true peers passionate about exploring the frontier of science."
Walker was silent, the turmoil within him obvious.
Yang Ping’s achievents stood like a towering mountain before him, making him feel both defeated and inspired. The oppression inside BG and Carl Mueller’s arrogance had long since exhausted him. At this mont, this invitation from the opposing camp, with a touch of "kindred spirits," seed like a glimr of light shining into his desperate heart. He did not agree on the spot, nor did he show much enthusiasm, but neither did he harshly refuse.
"What’s in there?" Walker was cautious, still not reaching out.
The man smiled and said, "Don’t worry, it’s not anything shady, but detailed information regarding Professor Yang’s X-2 enhancer technology. It will help you unravel all the doubts you’re currently facing."
Dr. Walker’s eyes were filled with longing, for a scientist, nothing is more important than resolving the puzzles in one’s heart. Regarding X-2, the materials only told him operational procedures, not the principles behind them, which to him was a painful tornt; he had to figure out the whys.
"Why give this now, during the war between your group and the BG Alliance? You have no reason to do this?" Walker was clear-headed, still not reaching out.
The man smiled again: "Professor Yang said this technology beneficial to human health shouldn’t be patented but shared worldwide. He only applied for a global patent to protect it from BG’s theft and monopoly. Even if patented, he will open it freely worldwide."
"Moreover, Professor Yang said Dr. Walker is a top expert in this area. Though there’s an iron curtain between you, he believes the spirit of science can penetrate it. He’s giving you this purely for academic exchange, hoping for so of your insights."
Dr. Walker’s eyes were filled with disbelief: "Just this, you don’t need to provide anything in return, like BG’s confidential technology? As an exchange?"
The man shook his head: "No, no, no! You might misunderstand; that’s not our intention. We just ca to deliver the technology materials to you. Professor Yang and you are purely for academic exchange, without any comrcial tint. Both you and him are scientists; scientists shouldn’t be entangled in businessn’s war."
"Alright, I should go now. Also, thank you for eting . That U-disk, do as you see fit; if you think it helps you, keep it. Rest assured, there are no strings attached. If you choose not to accept it, toss it into the Rhine River."
The man drank the coffee in his cup, got up, and left. While Dr. Walker stared at the U-disk for a few minutes and finally reached out to take it.
...
BG European Headquarters, Carl Mueller’s office, the atmosphere was heavy.
A stack of photos lay on Carl’s wide desk, showing very clearly the scene where Walker t with the Asian man in the corner of a café.
"The ti was just three days ago. The other party was very cautious, using untraceable disposable communication devices to agree on the place. Our intelligence personnel only managed to snap these photos."
Carl Mueller’s voice was devoid of any emotional tone.
