"Alright." Yang Ping nodded with satisfaction, "Take all the materials back and study them carefully. Next week, we will have a project team eting to officially announce this arrangent. At that ti, you will need to present a detailed work plan for the next phase. If you encounter any difficulties in the future, you can talk directly to Doctor Tang."

Tang Shun is the administrative manager of the entire laboratory. He not only has his own projects but also manages and coordinates the work of various laboratories and research teams.

"Yes, Professor, I understand!" Jiang Jitong took the heavy stack of materials with slightly trembling hands.

"If there’s nothing else, shall we head back?" Tang Shun stood up.

Yang Ping nodded.

Watching Jiang Jitong holding the materials and walking stiffly behind Tang Shun as they left the office, Yang Ping let out a soft sigh.

Handing over the X-2 project was a decision he made after much consideration. He needed to free himself from these increasingly burdenso routine tasks to make more precious ti available for contemplating and researching the deeper dical challenges that had been on his mind for a long ti.

Thinking about these issues requires extre focus and a lot of uninterrupted ti.

At the sa ti, Yang Ping knew well that the inspiration for dical research cannot be detached from clinical practice, which is the most abundant treasure trove. Even the most perfect laboratory data ultimately needs to be validated on real patients; the odd cases encountered in clinical settings, and the unexpected reactions when applying drugs or devices, are often the living sources of scientific inspiration.

To maintain a close connection with the cutting edge of clinical practice, Yang Ping made a decision: in the institute, he would set up a general outpatient clinic where he would personally consult patients.

This way, his workload wouldn’t be very heavy, giving him ti to think about so issues while not being detached from clinical work.

Thanks to the bold support of Dean Xia at the ti, the institute itself carries a strong generalist nature.

Its research topics are not restricted by traditional specialties, allowing free crossing over boundaries like internal dicine, surgery, pediatrics, etc., focusing on the human body as a whole.

With the developnt of dicine, dical fields have beco more and more specialized, and doctors tend to be proficient only in their own "territory."

For ordinary doctors, limited energy makes deep specialization an inevitable choice. But for soone like Yang Ping, with systemic support and ti resources far exceeding that of ordinary people, the generalist model better utilizes his integrative advantage, enabling him to find unique solutions to complex problems through the collision of knowledge from different specialties.

The first floor of the institute had long been designated as a special area, decorated as a general outpatient clinic, and the clinic’s various facilities are top-notch.

However, Yang Ping had not activated this general outpatient clinic until now. Now that he decided to open it, his intention was to do so quietly, not wanting to cause a big fuss.

But Dean Xia and Director Han did not want the prestigious Professor Yang to be so low-key. Dean Xia was almost pounding the table with excitent, telling the hospital office, "Professor Yang’s clinic is a hallmark of our hospital, no, of our dical Science Academy! It must be taken seriously and supported!" Director Han was even more direct, personally going to the clinic to instruct the staff to adjust the layout and lighting of the consultation room, even to the point of ticulously checking if the stationery on the desk was complete and handy.

Soon after, various departnt directors and deputy directors, whoever had so free ti, all "passed by" the first-floor clinic area to warmly greet Yang Ping, under the pretense of "learning and observing."

More resident doctors, graduate students, and nurses spontaneously gathered in the corridor outside the clinic area, eagerly awaiting, faces filled with curiosity and excitent.

The originally quiet clinic area suddenly beca bustling, crowded with people, and the scene moved Yang Ping deeply.

Perhaps one day, when he’s old, he could open a small clinic with his wife in a picturesque small town, with patients waiting outside — that would also be a nice life.

Soon after the clinic opened, the internal phone rang urgently. Accompanying Doctor Li Min quickly went over to answer it.

"Hello, this is Professor Yang’s clinic... Hmm, hmm... What? The tongue can’t retract?" Li Min’s voice carried evident surprise; he instinctively turned to glance at Yang Ping, then continued into the phone, "Alright, understood, we’ll prepare over here. Send the patient directly over."

After hanging up, Li Min quickly walked over to Yang Ping’s side and reported in a low voice, "Professor, it was a help call from Director Xiong over at the ergency departnt. They said there’s a patient whose tongue extended and now can’t retract, which seems quite peculiar. They consulted with the oral surgery departnt, but still couldn’t find a reason and wanted your consultation. Director Xiong himself is currently directing the rescue of a severely injured patient with multiple injuries and really can’t get away, so he specifically called to explain, saying otherwise he would have personally brought the patient over."

Yang Ping nodded slightly, expressing his understanding. Old Xiong is the ergency departnt director, straightforward and righteous, with a bit of a worldly flair. Usually, whenever Yang Ping is invited for a consultation, if he can manage it, he always accompanies personally and gives a detailed account of the case. Yang Ping appreciates this respect and enthusiasm. This ti, it seems the situation is indeed special.

"The tongue can’t retract?" The graduate students observing the consultation looked at each other with incredulous expressions.

They have studied dicine for many years and seen plenty of strange symptoms, but a tongue that sticks out and won’t go back in — such a situation is truly unheard of.

"What kind of strange ailnt is this? Muscle spasm? Nerve control problem?" one graduate student muttered quietly.

"Could it be ntal? Hysteria?" another guessed.

Everyone was whispering, filled with curiosity about the patient who was about to arrive.

Not long after, the sound of urgent footsteps and the scraping of wheels on the floor echoed outside the consultation room. Doctors and nurses from the ergency departnt pushed the Pingche, bringing the patient to Yang Ping’s general outpatient clinic. Behind the Pingche followed a young woman with an anxious expression and reddened eyes, evidently the patient’s family mber.

All eyes instantly focused on the patient on the Pingche.

It was a male patient, about thirty-sothing, his face flushed red due to distress and embarrassnt, forehead covered with fine sweat droplets.

His most striking feature was his bizarre tongue, which indeed remained protruded, just as described over the phone, rigidly paused at the edge of the lower lip, unable to retract into the mouth. Due to prolonged exposure to air, the tongue surface appeared sowhat dry, its color a shade deeper than the normal light red, slightly cyanotic. He attempted to close his lips tightly, but the protruding tongue obstructed the closing of his mouth, causing him only to produce so indistinct "hoho" sounds, with saliva uncontrollably dripping from the corner of his mouth.

"Doctor! Professor Yang! Please save him! What... what’s going on?" The patient’s wife, her voice trembling, almost collapsed in front of the consultation table, pleading with a tearful voice, "He just said his tongue felt uncomfortable in the morning, looked in the mirror and stuck it out, and then... then it beca like this, no matter what, it wouldn’t go back in, and it’s been almost an hour, terrifying."

The ergency departnt doctor who brought him also rushed to add, "Professor Yang, we’ve checked the vital signs, and they’re basically stable. X-rays show no issues with the temporomandibular joint. We tried to get him to relax and did so local massage, but nothing worked. We ruled out obvious signs of an acute cerebrovascular accident, but also couldn’t determine the exact cause, so Director Xiong instructed we bring him to you imdiately."

Yang Ping stood up, walked over to the Pingche, his face calm as still water, showing no sign of surprise or displeasure due to the patient’s unusual symptoms. He first spoke gently to the patient’s wife, "Don’t panic, calm down first. Since we’ve taken on this case, we will do our best to figure out the reason."

Then, he signaled Li Min and the nurse to assist, helping the patient up and onto the examination bed.

"Don’t worry." Yang Ping’s voice was steady and powerful, carrying a kind of calming magic power, "Let’s first understand the specific situation, then examine, and clear things up before proceeding."
