The next day, Yang Ping’s office.
Jiang Jitong stood at the door again, his mindset now completely different from a few days ago. He took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
"Co in," Yang Ping’s voice sounded.
Jiang Jitong pushed the door open and entered. Professor Yang, who was browsing emails, saw him and a knowing smile appeared on his face.
"Professor, sorry to disturb you," Jiang Jitong said steadily and clearly.
"Have a seat, Dr. Jiang," Yang Ping closed the email interface and looked at him kindly, "Judging by your complexion, did you stay up late again last night?"
"Thank you, Professor Yang, for your concern. Indeed, I have so new thoughts I want to report to you," Jiang Jitong sat down on the chair, his back straight, hands naturally resting on his knees.
"Oh? Is it about your thoughts after the salon or the project?" Yang Ping asked with interest.
"Both," Jiang Jitong admitted frankly, "Professor Yang, firstly, I want to apologize for my previous hesitation and lack of confidence. You entrusted with such an important project, recognizing my ability, while I fell into self-doubt, even attempting to yield. This is actually a questioning of your judgnt and a display of irresponsibility towards the project."
Yang Ping waved his hand: "No need to apologize. Self-reflection is a virtue; recognizing Chen Xiao’s strengths and sincerely recomnding him is in itself a responsible act. I arranged the salon not to negate your doubts but to hope that you could see your true capabilities within a broader fra of reference."
"Yes, Professor," Jiang Jitong nodded emphatically. "The salon enlightened greatly. I heard cutting-edge developnts from around the world, but what shocked even more was that I found myself not unfamiliar with many of the core concepts, technical difficulties, and even future trends they discussed; I could even understand them more deeply. Initially, I was puzzled, but then I figured it out—the source of my knowledge is you, it’s the ti spent learning next to you, it’s the practice of solving real problems in the X-2 project. What you taught us wasn’t scattered knowledge points, but a set of integrated, refined, cutting-edge thinking, knowledge system, and thodology."
His tone beca passionate and sincere: "The equipnt I use may not be as luxurious as so overseas labs, but what we solve with them is one of the world’s most challenging problems. The scientific thods we master and our ability to solve problems, especially the kind of creative breakthroughs under constraints, after this salon comparison, I am sure they are top-notch. What I’ve been in all along is a world-class scientific research environnt, it’s just that I haven’t realized it."
Yang Ping smiled contentedly: "Being able to figure this out yourself is more valuable than simply telling you. True confidence cos from an objective understanding of your own abilities. So what do you think about the subsequent responsibilities for the X-2 project now?"
Jiang Jitong t Yang Ping’s gaze, without any evasion, his voice firm and powerful: "Professor Yang, I’ve figured it out and I’m ready. I should take up this responsibility, and I am confident I can do well. I am familiar with every detail of the project, understand its core scientific logic, and have gone through its most challenging phases. I also understand our team better and know how to bring out everyone’s potential. Earlier I worried about my lack of strategic vision and ability to handle more complex situations, but now I understand that these abilities are not innate; they are learned and honed during the process of bearing responsibility. I have you guiding us, with support from our entire team, I should not, and cannot, shrink back any more."
Yang Ping listened earnestly, the look of admiration in his eyes growing stronger. Jiang Jitong had finally built up solid confidence.
"Very good," Yang Ping said slowly, "You analyze problems objectively, which is what we often call seeking truth from facts; this is the most essential quality for a researcher. I was not wrong about you, Jiang Jitong, in fact, from the mont you joined our research team, I have been paying great attention to you; I discovered many rits in you which can help you beco an excellent scholar."
"Thank you, Professor Yang!" Jiang Jitong felt a surge of strength within him.
"However," Yang Ping’s tone shifted to a more serious one, "you must rember, confidence does not an complacency. Seeing your strengths, you must also constantly be vigilant of your weaknesses. Chen Xiao’s international experience and so cutting-edge connections are still things you need to humbly learn from and leverage. I have given you a system of cutting-edge knowledge, but the frontier is relative; it will beco outdated as ti progresses. To always stay at the forefront, the only way is to always pay attention to international research dynamics and maintain a daily habit of reading papers. I’ve only led you to the door; the path ahead is for you to walk."
"I understand, Professor Yang. I will definitely work hard," Jiang Jitong promised solemnly.
"Good," Yang Ping stood up, walked over to Jiang Jitong, and patted him on the shoulder. "Then go ahead without hesitation. Next week’s project team eting will be chaired by you, officially announcing subsequent work arrangents and new collaboration modes. I will be there to support you. Rember, I and the Institute will always be your first support."
"Yes, Professor!" Jiang Jitong also stood up, more empowered than ever before.
"As for Dr. Chen Xiao, I will make other arrangents," Yang Ping added.
Currently, Yang Ping already has four generals in the laboratory: Tang Shun, Lu Xiaolu, Jiang Jitong, and Chen Xiao, and he will continue to nurture and cultivate more talent in the lab.
anwhile, in the clinical ward, there are currently Song Zimo and Xu Zhiliang as two generals. Xia Shu is still in growth, and Li Guodong is a promising talent but currently lacks work experience and needs ti to hone.
