Chapter 326: Chapter 0310: Consur
Innurable patients, endless surgeries, as the cycle continues, this is how each day is spent.
There are two things in the world that people hope will disappear every day, but they never do.
These two things are— disease and war.
Where is health? Where dical care is most advanced, people are most likely to be healthy, and life expectancy is highest.
Where is peace? Where the ard forces are most powerful, the likelihood of war is the least, and people live the most stable lives.
The results of Sisi’s follow-up examination ca out. Yang Ping let out a sigh of relief. Fortunately, there were no obvious signs of recurrence.
...
However, Yang Ping was clear that recurrence was only a matter of ti. With malign tumors at this stage, surgical thods could not completely eradicate the tumor cells. It’s just that the remaining tumor cells had not yet divided up to a significant extent and were not yet noticeably reflected in the imaging.
There were quite a few surgeries. By the ti he finished the last one for the day, it was already past six in the afternoon. Yang Ping suddenly realized that the doctoral examination was tomorrow.
“I’m taking a break tomorrow and the day after. You lead them in rounding and operating,” Yang Ping said as he discarded his gloves into the yellow trash can.
“Doctors are always on the road to examinations. After finishing undergraduate study, it’s on to the master’s degree, then the doctoral degree after the master’s degree, and the attending physician examination after that. After becoming an attending physician, it’s on to the deputy senior, and then progressing to full senior, with a variety of dizzying exams interspersed. If one day you suddenly find that you can take a break and not have to take any exams, congratulations, you probably only have a few more years before retirent.” Zhang Lin said as he lifted the sterile cover.
“Since we have chosen this bowl of rice, we must eat this bowl of rice well. Every industry has its own hardships. Which industry is easy? Teachers? Haven’t you seen parents hospitalized for acute myocardial infarction because they were tutoring their children with howork? Teachers face dozens of children. Imagine how many tis they might have myocardial infarctions. Businessn? You see them as a glamorous boss, but have you seen them when they were sleeping on the floor eating sweet potatoes? Civil servants? Everyone thinks it’s easy, but they also have to pass many thresholds and take on nurous tasks. Overti work is a common occurrence.”
“Next year, both of us also need to prepare for the doctoral examination. I heard that the hospital is planning to require a doctoral degree. Perhaps one day the policy will be implented, and those without a doctoral degree will have to transfer positions. We need to be prepared so as not to be caught off guard.” Little Five and Zhang Lin lifted the bed together.
“I’ve already booked my car. When the ti cos, Little Five, Fatty, you two will co with to pick up the car. Each of you get a red packet. Make sure you prepare it for in advance.” Zhang Lin was living a good life now.
“You aren’t scared to drive on the road, are you? You want us to help you drive it back?” Fatty teased him.
Little Five smiled and said, “A doctor from the neurosurgery departnt just picked up a car a few days ago. He said he wanted to find the joy of driving, so he chose a manual gear. On the way ho from the 4S shop, the car stalled more than a dozen tis. In the end, he had to call an experienced driver from his departnt to help him drive ho.”
“Underestimate your brother Zhang—” Zhang Lin was not convinced.
Little Five stuck to his sore spot: “Rember how clumsy you were playing PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds? How many tis has Elder Man Zhang scolded you?”
Director Tian called. He had a patient over there and wanted Yang Ping to help him take a look. The patient was a friend of Director Kong and was suffering from a damaged ligant in his right knee. After seeing the outpatient departnt, the patient was not reassured and asked Director Kong to accompany him to the Overseas Chinese Building to see Director Tian again.
From the tone of his voice, Yang Ping figured out that the patient probably had a complex knee joint with multiple ligant ruptures. Otherwise, Director Tian would have sorted it out himself and wouldn’t have called him over.
The Overseas Chinese Building originally only had an internal dicine departnt and a surgery departnt. Now an orthopedics departnt has been added. Director Tian is the head of the departnt and he has moved several doctors from the major orthopedic departnt. Maintaining about twenty patients on a regular basis is considered a good deal.
Although this new boss of the Overseas Chinese Building is young, under forty, he is well-rounded and adept at networking, not at all inferior to his two predecessors—Director Kong and Director Zhuang.
“I’ll go with you.” Song Zimo followed in Yang Ping’s footsteps.
Whether it’s the knee joint or the shoulder joint, if three or more major ligants are ruptured, it’s called a multi-ligant rupture. It’s not very common. Seeing one is rare enough. The developnt of a doctor requires nourishnt from cases. For soone like Song Zimo, if fed a bit more, he could grow rapidly.
“Let’s go!” Yang Ping led him.
“You should be confident about the doctoral exam, right?” Song Zimo was a bit worried about him. Theoretical knowledge, no matter how smart, still requires ti.
Yang Ping didn’t speak. The exam was tomorrow, so there was no point in saying anything now.
The patient, Junhao, was a 25-year-old male professional football player. He was already sitting on the bed in the treatnt room of the orthopedics departnt in the Overseas Chinese Building. His MRI results hung from the light box.
The patient was engrossed in his phone, laughing to himself while in conversation with soone. A well-dressed, fashionably attired woman in her fifties stood beside him, waiting.
“Oh, Doctor Yang is here.” Director Tian and Director Kong stopped their conversation.
Director Tian imdiately introduced him, “This is our hospital’s Doctor Yang. He perford Luo Jin’s surgery.”
“Luo Jin?” The woman sneered slightly.
Yang Ping walked to the light box. The MRI showed a fresh injury. The anterior and posterior cruciate ligants, dial collateral ligant, and posterodial corner were completely torn. There were four ruptures, which were usually career-ending injuries. The violence of the original injury must have been substantial.
“He and Luo Jin are teammates.” Director Tian also ca over to look at the images.
The woman was the mother of Junhao, she possessed an intimidating air of an affluent housewife. They had always looked down on Luo Jin, considering him as soone who had co up from an unconventional background with no formal training during his childhood and was only successful because of his luck in scoring a few extra goals. They couldn’t fathom why his popularity was so high.
Junhao, too, had been playing football since he was a child. However, his talent was diocre. Fortunately, his family was wealthy and so they sent him to Brazil for training. He was able to participate in all kinds of competitions and was a celebrity in his own right.
But despite the considerable amount of money they invested, his skills hadn’t improved much. Watching him play football could make one feel sick. But that didn’t stop them from letting him play in matches. No matter how many eggs you threw at him, it couldn’t impede his rise to fa and wealth.
“Please lie down, I need to check your knee.” After finishing examining the images, Yang Ping was ready to carry out a physical examination.
Junhao was unwilling to put down the phone in his hand. This lack of respect for the doctor irked Yang Ping a bit, but he didn’t say anything. He just reminded him, “Please put away your phone temporarily and cooperate with the examination.”
“Oh, sorry.” Junhao reluctantly put away his phone and softly said to the screen, “Baby, I’ll be back to chat in a bit.”
“During the examination, there might be so pain. If you feel any pain, please let know imdiately and I’ll try to be as gentle as possible.” Yang Ping put on his gloves and patiently explained the procedure to Junhao.
Junhao sighed, “Doctor, it’s very painful, don’t be so harsh.”
Harsh? He hadn’t even started yet. Yang Ping was as gentle as he could be as he started the dial and lateral stress tests to determine whether the collateral ligants were damaged, the extent of injury, and whether the knee joint was stable under dial and lateral stress.”
As soon as Yang Ping applied pressure, Junhao started to scream, “Oh my God, Doctor, can you be a bit gentler? This is too harsh.”
If it weren’t for Yang Ping’s quick reaction to hold down his leg, Junhao’s leg would have shot up and kicked him. He stopped his examination. Normally, even female patients wouldn’t have such a low tolerance for pain.
The woman, seeing this, was extrely dissatisfied. She stepped up and blocked Yang Ping, “Can you be a little more gentle? What are you trying to do? You’ve hurt him. Do you know he’s a professional football player? Do you know this?”
No one expected this reaction, all he was doing was a normal examination. Even children cooperate more during a physical examination.
“We plan to seek treatnt in the United States. The appointnt hasn’t been scheduled yet, so we wanted to have a look here first. I know that you guys aren’t competent, this is the level of healthcare in our country. But, at the very least, you should avoid causing further injury!” The woman declared angrily.
“Director Tian, if this is the situation, then I won’t waste everyone’s ti, I am quite busy, I will take my leave.” Yang Ping took off his gloves and accurately threw them into the yellow garbage bin.
Yang Ping had already felt irritated by their indifferent attitude, but he had still maintained his composure. Currently, this disrespectful behavior from the patient was unacceptable. What was the point of treating such a patient?
The most awkward positions were held by Director Tian and Director Kong. Just a while ago, Director Kong had introduced the patient to them and invited Yang Ping for the consultation. They hadn’t expected this kind of attitude from the patient and their family. Were they here to seek dical consultation or just to show off?
“Ah! And now you’re throwing gloves. Who are you venting your anger at? Let tell you, we are here as paying custors. What does this attitude of yours an?” Junhao’s mother, seeing that Yang Ping wasn’t giving into her demands, grew angrier and started creating a scene.
“As a custor? I’m sorry, but for now, I’m closed.” Yang Ping exited with Song Zimo.
Director Kong explained to Junhao’s mother whilst Director Tian went after Yang Ping to apologize. He hadn’t expected such an awkward situation. He had only recently got to know this patient and his family. A quick look at the MRI revealed multiple ligant tears in the right knee, an injury that only Yang Ping could handle.
“That doctor, I’m going to file a complaint against him for his lack of dical ethics!” Junhao’s mother cursed.
Yang Ping remained calm and wasn’t irritated. He stopped at the door and told Director Tian, who was following him, “You tell her, although it’s right to treat and save patients, we doctors do it whilst standing, not kneeling. Doctors and patients are equals –”
Junhao’s mother had never heard such a thing before in G City. In every hospital she went to, the doctors surrounded her. She couldn’t accept that a young doctor wouldn’t tolerate being bossed around. What was going on?
She started clamoring to see Yang Ping’s work badge to file a complaint. Initially, Yang Ping didn’t want to provoke her and thought it’d be better to have one less problem. But now, she acted as though the doctor had committed a mistake. It was definitely not a misunderstanding any longer.
Then, Yang Ping displayed his badge, “Did you see it clearly?”
“Rember this, you’re just a doctor, why are you showing off?” Junhao’s mother displayed a nasty attitude.
“You also rember this, no matter where you go to see a doctor in the future, learn to respect people, alright? This is basic manners.” Yang Ping was not polite in his response either.
Song Zimo, standing by his side, was ready to intervene at any ti and protect Yang Ping from any unfair treatnt. He had seen many unreasonable patients who scread, shouted, kicked, and even stripped off their clothes and cried harassnt.
Yang Ping was not a quarrelso person and didn’t want her to continue crisising, so he left with Song Zimo.
This made Junhao’s mother angrier, and she wanted to follow them, but Director Kong held her back. All the while, Song Zimo shielded Yang Ping, “You’re just like a shrew, not letting things go. What more do you want to do now—”
