Chapter 511: Chapter 467: The Red Telephone Rings Again Chapter 511: Chapter 467: The Red Telephone Rings Again “Which patient is this? This is your third patient like this, isn’t it?”
Yang Ping was studying MR images when Song Zimo ca over to look along with him.
“It’s Ning Qi’s brother.” Yang Ping inford him.
“The domineering female CEO? I see she brought another box of cookies, homade no less, she wouldn’t have taken a liking to you, would she?” Song Zimo joked.
“So, a box of cookies is all it takes for her to fall for ? Am I that cheap?” Yang Ping retorted, amused.
Song Zimo shook his head, “Have so self-confidence. You’re quite valuable. When our research fund was established, she was the first to donate, quietly and generously.”
“Quit the nonsense, focus on the films. Look, this tumor is cunning and vicious, growing precisely towards the vital centers of the body. We might have to use the laser knife again.” Yang Ping delineated the tumor’s outline.
Song Zimo didn’t respond; he just kept staring at the images as if contemplating sothing.
“Is there a problem?” Yang Ping thought he might have discovered a new issue.
“Yes!” Song Zimo responded firmly.
“Speak.”
“I’ve been wondering— are you even human? You dare to operate on such a tumor?”
“If we don’t operate, what else can we do?”
True. The patient wouldn’t last long without surgery. Any other surgeon might not even get off the operating table, but if Yang Ping were to perform it, there would be hope, significant hope.
Song Zimo was convinced of this.
“This ti, let assist you. Dr. Wen Rentao assisted in Professor Feng’s last surgery.”
“Then get ready.”
“Where’s the patient?”
“He’s in the affiliated hospital of Tokyo University in Japan. We’re going there for a conference and will visit him. If he can’t be transported back, we’ll have to operate there.”
Japanese people are stubborn. Having a surgery in their Tokyo University’s affiliated hospital might be a hard sell.
“That’s Takahashi’s stronghold. Let’s have him help make the arrangents.” Song Zimo suggested.
Yang Ping nodded in agreent, “I was thinking the sa. Let Takahashi act as the interdiary, and have our dical affairs departnt negotiate with theirs to arrange this cross-national surgery.”
Such surgeries involve many legal issues. Even if they agree, we will still face procedures like obtaining temporary dical licenses.
“Japanese doctors should be quite interested in this case, I heard! Tokyo University’s affiliated hospital recently launched a charity project. It’s a collaboration between the Spinal Surgery Departnt and the Neurosurgery Departnt and offers free surgeries to patients from impoverished and undeveloped countries. This includes surgeries for upper cervical or brainstem tumors. Not just the treatnt, but even the airfare, lodging, and food in Japan would be freely provided by the charity fund. A lot of foreign patients have signed up for this plan, and so have already reached Tokyo.”
Song Zimo felt, since the doctors in Tokyo showed a high interest in cases like this one, they would surely accept a cross-country surgery from Yang Ping.
“Regardless, let’s follow the procedure for now. If they disagree, I’ll negotiate with them once we’ve reached Japan. Saving lives is what matters. Is this docunt an experintal report?” Yang Ping briefly put aside the case.
Song Zimo almost forgot his initial purpose of seeking out Yang Ping— to submit a report recently printed from the Guilin lab. He handed it to Yang Ping:
“Good news from Guilin lab. The correction for the spinal curvature in the monkeys was successful. As per the research plan, during the correction period, samples were periodically taken from different parts of the monkeys including the anterior and posterior longitudinal ligants, ligantum flavum, interspinous ligant etc. Under the electron microscope, we detected cell division that resembled the division in the fetal stage. In other words, the external forces applied by the spinal fixation device successfully induced growth in the different soft tissues of the spine. Ilizarov’s theory has achieved initial success in spinal correction.”
“Very good! Continue. At present, the cells taken from the monkeys are detached dead cells at various stages of division. If we could observe living cells with a confocal laser scanning microscope, we would be able to explain the chanism more convincingly.” Yang Ping pointed out the shortcomings of the experint.
However, it was quite difficult to observe live cell division in monkeys under the current experintal conditions.
“The design of your spinal external fixator is too perfect. The animal experint ets all our expectations. If it succeeds, we’ll soon be able to enter the clinical trial stage.” Song Zimo was very excited. He didn’t expect such a smooth experint.
Usually, such experints would have setbacks; this smooth progress made Song Zimo uneasy.
“The experint is going so well? Do you think those guys might’ve forged the data just to finish the experint quickly?”
Song Zimo was worried.
Yang Ping chuckled inwardly. Song Zimo’s worry was understandable; the smoothness of the experint was indeed beyond normal. Only Yang Ping himself knew that this research plan had been revised and corrected countless tis in the space lab until it reached an interdiate version. He simply employed the final successful version from the space lab in the real world. There was, therefore, no room for setbacks.
If it hadn’t been for this, the experint would’ve taken several years; Yang Ping wasn’t prepared to waste so much ti. The ti in the system space could be wasted freely, but the ti in reality had to be saved.
Yang Ping checked the data in the report which was very similar to the data obtained in the space lab. It was genuine, none of the testers had falsified it.
“I understand your concerns, but the data in this is reliable. You should trust their academic integrity.” Yang Ping dismissed Song Zimo’s worries.
Song Zimo was only skeptical because of the experint’s unlikely success.
However, the final results would not lie, as the regular X-rays had already indicated the gradual correction of the spinal curve.
“The applications of Ilizarov’s theory will definitely continue to expand. The spinal external fixator is only one aspect. We are far from fully exploring the potential of this surgical tool.”
“Exactly, it was originally used for bone lengthening, then for heightening people’s stature, and later, it was successfully applied to correct limb deformities—”
“Who’s studying Japanese?” Yang Ping heard soone shouting “baka– yarou” in the office.
“It’s Zhang Lin. He learned a bit of Japanese from Takahashi previously, and recently he said he wanted to brush up on his spoken Japanese.” Song Zimo recognized Zhang Lin’s voice.
Baka– Yarou, Baka– Yarou, Baka– Yarou —
“Why is he always repeating that phrase?” Yang Ping didn’t understand why Zhang Lin kept repeating that particular insult.
Song Zimo was just as confused. “I’ll go and see,” he said.
That doctor’s office, the place where he worked, he always mumbled to himself. It was not presentable.
“Zhang Lin, lower your voice!” Song Zimo walked to the doctor’s office.
The doctor’s office was next to Yang Ping’s office.
“Oh, sorry, I was too absorbed.” Zhang Lin said, taking off his headphones.
Looking at him, it didn’t seem like he was playing around. He was reading aloud from the headphones quite articulately.
“Are you learning Japanese?” Song Zimo asked in doubt.
Zhang Lin nodded: “Yes!”
“Why do you always learn to curse?” Song Zimo was dissatisfied. Wearing headphones, his voice was loud and always with a curse word. It was a bad habit.
Zhang Lin said seriously: “I’ve been re-reading The Chrysanthemum and the Sword, and I’ve gained so insights. On this trip to Japan, I need to learn so basic phrases. But the most critical one to learn is this—a curse word. One sentence can not explain clearly, Young Master Song, you also need to learn this phrase. I know your Japanese is excellent, but when you say this phrase, being too polite doesn’t work. You need to pronounce this curse word imposingly–like this!”
Suddenly shouting the curse word, he startled Song Zimo.
“I’m heading to the duty room to study. Anything else?” Zhang Lin confird that everything was okay, put on his headphones again, and left with his cellphone.
Damn it, has this guy lost his mind? He’s crazy!
I never said I was taking him to Japan, and now he’s cramming at the last minute to learn Japanese.
“He said, ‘Opportunities are for those who are prepared.'” Little Five said to a stunned Song Zimo.
“Genius!”
Song Zimo cursed.
“Has he been acting out of the ordinary recently?” Song Zimo was worried.
Little Five replied, “He’s lucid and makes sense.”
There was a ringing, and the red phone on the office desk rang.
Red phone? It’s the ergency center’s phone.
Although the Comprehensive Surgery Departnt is independent, it is a cooperative departnt of the ergency center. Normally, they wouldn’t be needed, but once needed, the Comprehensive Surgery Departnt has to provide support to the ergency center. This was the situation with Yu Shuilian’s surgery before.
Little Five grabbed the phone, giving a series of okays.
“The ergency room has requested support; Director Han has already rushed to the scene. A Maserati crashed into a group of students leaving school, injuring several people—“, Little Five briefly reported the content of the phone call.
Surgeons, never have a quiet day.
Just finished half a day’s surgery and just wanted to rest in the afternoon. His butt had not yet ward the chair when the red phone rang.
At this ti, Yang Ping had already appeared in the office. He had received a call from Director Han.
Director Han is the head of the large orthopedics departnt and the director of the Trauma Ergency Center. He had already rushed to the site to command the rescue. Tan boyun and his team had already begun the rescue.
“Li Guodong! Stay with the ward! The rest of you, follow to the ergency room, quickly!!!” Yang Ping imdiately led the rest to rush to the ergency room.
The severity of the injuries commands instant action!
Several standardized training students might not have had enough at noon. They were washing a few apples to eat. Upon hearing the command, they imdiately dropped their half-eaten apples and ran out. The intern who had previously fainted at the sight of uric acid crystals mixed in as well.
They took the ergency elevator, then jogged all the way directly to the ergency departnt.
The ergency departnt was in chaos, wailing families, doctors, nurses darting around, traffic police yelling into walkie-talkies, and doctors from various departnts rushing in to help.
“Pleural cavity closed drainage, quick!”
For tension pneumothorax, the ergency doctor had already inserted a large needle on-site to release air. A nurse opened the pleural cavity closed drainage package, and the thoracic surgeon, with gloves on, was performing a closed chest drainage.
“Femoral artery bleeding, ligate it, ligate it first! Send it to the CT room for scanning, call interventional departnt, quick! The pelvis is shattered, it is estimated there’s a lot of bleeding, we need interventional embolization!” Dr. Tan, leading Dr. Zhong, was ligating the femoral artery. The blood-soaked groin had been torn open, and the dressings from the ergency treatnt could no longer stop the bleeding.
“Go to the ergency CT room!”
The ergency CT room is on the first floor of the ergency departnt. The flat design allows for diagnosis and surgery to be completed on one floor.
Yang Ping quickly assigned the personnel, all the standardized training students and interns assisted with the rescue, Song Zimo and Xu Zhiliang followed him to the CT room. The CT room also serves as an ergency operating room with integrated examination and surgery.
“Epidural hematoma, bilateral femoral shaft comminuted fractures, bilateral tibia and fibula comminuted fractures, bilateral calcaneus comminuted fractures, pelvic comminuted fractures, bilateral hip central dislocation. The right femur head has shifted into the abdominal cavity, more than ten rib fractures, hemothorax and pneumothorax, urethral rupture, rectal rupture, the right femur has pierced into the abdominal cavity, causing damage to the organs inside—”
Dr. Lv from the ergency departnt reported. He didn’t even have ti to put on his white coat, he probably was just about to get off work but heard the command and directly joined the fight. He was covered in blood.
What kind of injury chanism was this? There was no ti to think.
“Transfuse blood, quickly! Keep transfusing blood! Pressurize!”
“We’re in a critical shortage of AB-type blood! We’ve only got eight units at the mont and there are two AB-type patients. That’s not even enough for one person.” Dr. Lv said anxiously.
This type of rescue demanded a large amount of blood, without blood, even a god couldn’t save the patients.
Director Zhao from the dical departnt also rushed over in a hurry. While walking. he was shouting into his phone to negotiate with the blood bank: “Old Zhang, you have to procure it for , without blood, what should we do? AB type, yes, AB type.”
