Chapter 519: Chapter 472: Reputation and Dignity Chapter 519: Chapter 472: Reputation and Dignity As long as Yang Ping says he’s confident, there’s definitely no problem; this is the logic of Professor Zhang and Director Han.

This logic is simple but also very reliable.

Because countless facts have proven that this is the case, it should be empiricism in philosophy.

Professor Zhang is in a hurry to train in Tai Chi Push Hands, it is said that he has invited an expert to instruct at the Tri-Bo Hotel staff club.

The risk of the surgery is very high, the difficulty is high, the success rate is minimal, everything is laid out here.

It seems that discussing it over and over doesn’t an anything.

“You continue the discussion. I’ll go check on Old Zhang.”

Director Han also followed suit, he was truly worried about this old rascal. Despite his good health, old age inevitably leads to osteoporosis. If sothing gets bumped or knocked, a fracture could occur and everyone would have to scramble.

“A real duel?”

“Really! I saw him training, he was even training on how to fall without getting hurt.”

“Just now Director Han said, he is on call, we can all go to Japan? I didn’t hear it wrong, did I?”

“It seed so, I heard it too.”

That said, the whole team is going to Japan!

Everyone cheered, such opportunities are rare.

The last ti was when Yang Ping perford surgery on Guo Jingyao at Yingge Hospital in Malaysia. That was a last-minute team mobilization, everyone arrived and left in a hurry, there was not much feeling.

This ti is different, there is ample preparation.

“Dr. Yang! There’s an embarrassingly difficult question.”

Zhang Lin massages Yang Ping’s shoulder while looking around, hemming and hawing.

“If it’s difficult to bring up, it’s better not to speak.”

Yang Ping sees him acting suspiciously.

Zhang Lin is sowhat anxious, his face flushing red.

“Well, this ti, will it be like last ti, those who make the hook, will there be… you know…”

Zhang Lin quickly rubs the tips of his right thumb and forefinger together.

“What?” Yang Ping asks deliberately.

“This!”

Zhang Lin repeats the gesture.

This gesture represents—money!

“Look at , how vulgar I am.” Zhang Lin gives himself a light slap on the mouth.

Yang Ping finds it amusing: “Stop acting, none of us are saints. Even saints need to eat, drink, and use the bathroom. There’s definitely going to be money, just do a good job.”

“Stop staring at .”

Zhang Lin feels everyone is laughing at him.

“I’m an ordinary person, I can’t escape the mundane. I have a mortgage and a car loan, both of which are due every month on schedule. If I can’t pay, both the house and car belong to the bank. So naturally I think about money. Even if it’s not allowed, I can’t help but think about it. Talking about money doesn’t hurt feelings, right?”

Zhang Lin thinks in his heart but doesn’t say—unlike Little Five, who has a rich father-in-law and his wife is an only child, renting a few buildings alone.

Even if he doesn’t work, it doesn’t matter.

Every month, he just needs to take a notebook, do a few rounds, and he is set.

“Rest assured, there will be a consultation fee, it certainly won’t be less than last ti.” Song Zimo gives Zhang Lin a reassurance pill.

With these words, Zhang Lin imdiately feels relieved. Even if it’s based on the price of last ti, it’s not a small sum.

Unlike Zhang Lin, Xu Zhiliang doesn’t care about these matters at all. He is alone studying the images on the screen, constantly asking Yang Ping for advice.

As if worldly matters have nothing to do with him, Xu Zhiliang. What house, car, wife, it seems he has never thought about it in the slightest.

“Our friend Takahashi has already said that when we’re on his turf, we don’t need to be polite. He’ll arrange everything.”

“Our friend Takahashi is quite reliable and has a ticulous work style.”

“Not long ago, he sent over many things via express delivery, Little Five and Zhang Lin’s diapers, Fatty’s cigarettes.”

Tokyo University Hospital Orthopedics Departnt.

A cross-national consultation invitation was placed on Fujiwara Masao’s office desk. After thinking for a long ti, he called Takahashi Fumiya into his office.

Fujiwara Masao was different from those old stubborn individuals. He wouldn’t refuse a real top surgeon due to so-called reputation. For various reasons, he couldn’t control his own uncle—The patient’s treatnt plan, but he could control the treatnt of this young Chinese man.

Besides, this Chinese man surnad Ning had a very profound background. His family controlled a huge Chinese company. The family’s authorized representative, one of Tokyo’s best law firms, had formally notified the hospital in a docunt that Dr. Yang Ping from China must be invited for a consultation and to perform the main surgery.

The dical departnt had already handed the consultation form to Fujiwara for signing. Fujiwara really wanted to sign, but he didn’t want to be showy. He wanted to approve Yang Ping’s consultation privately.

“Teacher!”

Standing at the door, Takahashi bows in a standard Japanese manner.

“Co in!”

Fujiwara Masao beckons.

The teacher and student sit down across the office desk.

Fujiwara Masao passes the consultation invitation to Takahashi to see. Takahashi is surprised: “Inviting Dr. Yang to perform surgery? This young man can be saved.”

Soon, he realizes his inappropriate outburst, particularly in front of Teacher Fujiwara, was very impolite.

However, Fujiwara Masao didn’t mind.

“Are you truly so confident that this young doctor can perform such a challenging surgery? Moreover, with a high success rate,” said Fujiwara Masao earnestly.

Takahashi’s attitude had greatly changed since returning from China — once haughty and arrogant, he now acted humbly and cautiously.

Such significant change in a person intensified Fujiwara Masao’s interest in Yang Ping.

“During my stay in China, I witnessed Doctor Yang perform a similar surgery. The operation was a public demonstration, thrilling and fraught with dangers, but he was undaunted, completing it successfully. The patient is still alive and well now,” Takahashi calmly narrated, repressing his admiration.

He was aware that his opinion could affect Tutor Fujiwara’s decision, possibly influencing the future treatnt of the president.

He wished to appear as objective as possible and not instigate any particular emotion.

In Japan, conglorates are the pillar of the nation, with their influence reaching the tip of society’s pyramid.

Take the Fujiwara Family as an example; there are hundreds of major descendants in Fujiwara Masao’s generation alone, who occupy various fields — lawmakers, professors, doctors, lawyers, etc. and are all elites in their industry.

Thus, the entire family grows deep-rooted and powerful in Japan.

Despite being a doctor, Fujiwara Masao could not control his uncle’s treatnt decisions.

The consultant group of the family corporation, those elders, hold the most power. Ikeda, appointed by them, had more say than Fujiwara Masao. Even Ikeda, Fujiwara’s teacher, held less power in comparison.

“I’ve seen the video you provided , and I trust your judgent. If we can facilitate this international consultation surgery and it proves successful, we can use it as basis to push the dical team to invite Doctor Yang Ping to perform the president’s surgery. Takahashi, if I sign my na on this invitation, it ans we’ll face the traditional powers of Tokyo University Hospital, not just one person,” Fujiwara Masao seriously stated.

Takahashi understood the arrogance that can germinate in Tokyo University Hospital, Japan’s top hospital.

Inviting a young Chinese doctor here to operate would incur opposition from many, from the administration to the clinical staff.

“Don’t ntion this to Sasaki and Mitsui for now,” Fujiwara instructed Takahashi.

Fujiwara knew that they, without any doubt, would strongly dissuade him from his course and he didn’t want any complications.

After graduating from Tokyo University, Mitsui Tasuku not only studied spine surgery under Fujiwara Masao but also brain surgery under several Japanese neurosurgery masters. He even rotated through top hospitals such as Mayo and Hopkins in the United States for further study.

The young Mitsui, only in his thirties, was already a rising star in the Neurosurgery Departnt of Tokyo University.

While discussing, Fujiwara received a call from his teacher, Professor Ikeda.

Putting down the phone, he quickly signed his na on the consultation invitation, adopting a forgiveness-after-action approach.

“Takahashi, hand in this invitation to the dical Departnt, have them send it out imdiately. Preferably, you should be present, watching them send it,” Fujiwara handed the letter to Takahashi.

“Understood!” Takahashi promptly stood up.

Professor Ikeda, Fujiwara Masao’s teacher, is an advisory professor of orthopedics at Tokyo University Hospital. Although he has already retired, he still has more say in the treatnt of important people. They are the senior advisors in dical care.

Fujiwara Masao adjusted his clothes and headed for Professor Ikeda’s office in the administrative area.

“Masao! I heard you guys are inviting a Chinese doctor to operate, and he is quite young too?” Professor Ikeda’s tone was very serious.

News had spread fast.

Fujiwara Masao could not avoid it; although Professor Ikeda had no right to interfere, given his own seniority and respect as a teacher, it would not be difficult for him to do so.

“Yes, sir. Because the patient’s family was very clear that they either wanted to transport him back to China, or request this Chinese doctor perform the surgery. I had no other choice. This patient cannot be transported. Moreover, this patient’s condition is extrely similar to the president’s. To my knowledge, this Chinese doctor has extensive surgical experience and a high success rate for this type of disease, if—”

“Enough! Have you thought about how your actions will invoke the dissatisfaction of the whole hospital?” Professor Ikeda was noticeably impatient.

Fujiwara Masao paused for a mont, then said aningfully, “This is just a normal exchange. Because the invitee is a young Chinese doctor, it’s causing a sensation. Sir, you always teach us to be sincere in all things. I serve sincerely, unafraid of criticism. We have beco too rigid. If we continue like this, we will quickly fall behind.”

“This is a fall from grace!” Professor Ikeda slamd his hand on the desk.

Fujiwara imdiately stood up, bowed his head, and said, “Sir!”

“The competent person should be the teacher. This is also what you have always taught . I have read this doctor’s papers and seen his surgical videos. For cases like this, his surgical skills and experience surpass ours. Since this Chinese patient’s condition is similar to the president’s, and his family strongly wishes to invite this doctor, why shouldn’t we promote this? Whether successful or not, it is beneficial to us.” Fujiwara defended himself.

“This has gone beyond the realm of dical skills. This is about the reputation and dignity of our hospital, reputation and dignity which need to be upheld by life itself. Yet, you are damaging it so lightly. And, your so-called papers and videos cannot provide enough evidence!” Professor Ikeda was so angry that his white beard was trembling.

Fujiwara Masao imdiately went to support him, but he brushed Fujiwara’s hand aside.

“Sir, does Fujiwara not understand as a doctor why we must pay excessive attention to matters beyond dical skills? Compared to a patient’s life, I find reputation and dignity to be insignificant, fully expendable. I rember when I followed you in learning dicine, Sir, you used to ignore personal reputation and challenge difficult surgeries to save patients’ lives. When the surgery failed, all you said was—I’ve done my best; reputation is not sothing to be treasured!” Fujiwara Masao argued with reason.

If he couldn’t convince Professor Ikeda, then within the faction of the older generation, he wouldn’t receive any support and it would be hard for him to face the hospital’s public discourse.

“That’s—not the sa!” Professor Ikeda exclaid angrily.

“It’s the sa! Just because he’s a young Chinese doctor, you feel like you’ve lost your reputation and dignity. If he were a professor from the world’s topmost hospital, you wouldn’t discuss it with such vitriol. Just like how the strongest Go master would feel exceedingly ashad if he lost to a child—-”

Fujiwara did not back down.

“You–”

Professor Ikeda leaned back in his chair, his lips quivering, unable to speak.

Fujiwara handed him a cup of tea. He just gestured for him to put it down.

After a long ti, Professor Ikeda breathed steadily.

“Have you made up your mind?”

“The invitation has already been sent out. It should have been received by now.”

Fujiwara answered.

Professor Ikeda murmured, “The things you said just now, is that really what’s in your heart?”

“Indeed!” Fujiwara nodded.

“What do you need to do?”

“If my decision is collectively rejected at the hospital advisory level, causing them to put pressure on the managent, I hope, Sir, that you can help .”

“Alright, you have defied today. That old fellow Ikeda will not be easy to deal with.”

“He only cares about his loyalty to Shuon-an Temple. As long as you stand by , Sir, no one will be able to overturn my decision.”
