Chapter 23

Leticia woke up in the middle of frantic movent.

Seeing the scene before her, she briefly wondered: Who am I? Where am I? What am I doing?

“Catch that kid! Don’t let her escape!”

Behind her ca chaotic shouts. Turning her head, Leticia nearly fainted again from fright.

Oh my God—what had that brat done with her body while she was unconscious?!

This scene... Had he actually gone and attacked an execution ground?!!!

It was entirely possible. Behind her, a crowd is in uproar. At least five soldiers closing in. A man tied to a post, hardly recognizable as human anymore. Another kneeling, unable to move. And a middle-aged man, wide-eyed, barely alive, staring at her.

This really was a jailbreak at the execution ground?!

Don’t tell her this was real—no no no no no she didn’t want this! She had only wanted to live a decent life, even if it was hard and tiring! And this idiot had dragged her into assaulting an execution site—ahhhhhhh!!!

Soone please tell her this wasn’t real!!!

The feedback from her body was explosive exhaustion, as if she were starving to death, every cell withered, crying in anguish.

Her legs instantly felt like lead blocks, too heavy to move.

Yet her body did not stop. Outwardly she still moved with agility—slipping through gaps in the crowd, vaulting a two-ter wall, sprinting deeper into Rhodes.

“Stano Banson! What is going on?! You owe a proper explanation!”

Her voice was nearly a roar. Leticia had no trace of a normal girl’s restraint. Facing this, she wanted nothing more than to confront that brat from the foreign general’s family and teach him, with every dirty trick she knew, how to respect others!

“Cough, stop yelling.”

Stano sounded tired, but still refused to release control of her body, as if determined to widen the distance.

“You listen to , damn it!”

Leticia swore in her own native tongue—she didn’t even know how to curse properly in this world. “You’ve completely ruined my life! My future! Do you even know what you’re doing?!”

“Don’t talk now. Wait until we’re truly safe.”

Stano took a deep breath. He had brought Leticia’s body to the far side of the wall. After briefly hiding and letting the first wave of pursuers rush by, he grabbed a torn piece of clothing, threw it on, sared ash from the ground across his face, and disguised himself as a slum child.

Blending into the second wave of the crowd, he used a subtle force on Leticia’s legs to slip away unnoticed into unfamiliar streets.

Where was this? Leticia had no idea. Last ti she ca to Rhodes, she had only followed Uncle John on errands. She had never wandered.

Wandering got you into trouble—and trouble was the last thing she wanted.

In short, neither of them knew where they were.

On the roadside slumped a ragged drunk. Without hesitation, Stano strode over, snatched up two bottles beside him, smashed them, and pressed a sharp shard to the man’s throat while yanking his hair. “Drunkard, quick—where’s the nearest city gate?!”

He dared so boldly because the man reeked of alcohol.

Just a drunk—what threat could he be?

With cold glass biting his throat, the drunk sobered halfway at once. Yet the drink still dulled his strength and blurred his sight.

“W-who are you? Don’t you know threatening others violates Church law? Even if you’re just a brat, you’ll still be arrested!”

“Shut up!”

Stano growled. The drunk flinched. “If you don’t talk, I’ll cut you right now. Don’t even think of calling for help—let’s see which is faster, your shout or your throat being slit!”

This brat is a wolf...

Leticia thought silently. Unable to resist, she whispered a prayer for the drunk, hoping he’d make the wise choice.

Because this brat was clearly insane.

Huh?

As sensation returned to her, Leticia suddenly noticed sothing wrong.

Inside her underclothes (her bottoms—since the top part wasn’t necessary), sothing had been stuffed. It dug painfully into her skin.

It felt like a coarse piece of paper.

Had that brat really hidden sothing in her underwear?!

While she burned with indignation, the drunk, terrified, didn’t dare lie. He quickly spilled what he knew.

“Hmph.”

The mont he finished, Stano tossed aside the shard. The drunk exhaled in relief—then Stano slamd his head hard against the wall.

A dull thud. The man collapsed, unconscious.

“You killed him?!”

Leticia cried inwardly. But Stano said casually, “Just put him to sleep. If he woke up and shouted, he’d be in trouble.”

“Are you... really Stano?”

Leticia felt a strange sense of unfamiliarity. Since when has he beco like this?

“Hah, what nonsense are you spouting?”

Stano froze briefly at her timid tone, then laughed. “Of course I’m . It’s just, given the situation, I happened to use what I’ve learned. I am a general’s son, after all.”

“So hiding things in your underwear is part of that training too?”

“Uh...”

Under his control, Leticia’s body moved with astounding agility—though only she knew how close her limbs were to breaking.

Yet the speed was incredible. In re minutes, she saw the city gate—the symbol of freedom.

But at the sa ti, it also symbolized the beginning of a truly unknown life.

Leticia suddenly missed the days of living with her uncle.
