Volu 2, Chapter 32: Nightmare
She could not understand...
She completely could not understand...
Why was she in a place like this?
She stared blankly at her surroundings. A narrow passageway. Gray-black stone walls sealed off every possibility to the left and right. There was not a single window, not a single door, only piles of ssy garbage.
Only the directions forward and backward remained.
The ground was covered in a foul-slling liquid. Because the ground itself was black stone, she could not tell the liquid’s true color...
And yet, for so reason, it made her feel disgusted. It made her want to stay away from that liquid.
Why?
“Eh?!”
A gust of cold wind ca without warning, making her body shudder violently. She lifted her head in confusion. The bright moon in the sky had already disappeared into endless black clouds.
She kept feeling that sothing had appeared...
What could it be?
Could it be human?
Or was it so kind of thing she could not understand at all?
She did not know.
She was unclear.
She did not understand.
Everything was blank. She had no clue at all. There was only that deathlike cold, climbing up from beneath her feet, gradually freezing her thoughts.
In the instant she stood dazed, her nose suddenly caught a different sll. That sll was vastly different from the stench of garbage perating the air, yet in the end, they reached the sa destination.
It was the sll of blood, the tallic reek of that crimson liquid.
SPLAT!
Her steps halted. Slowly, she lowered her head. Slowly, she moved her gaze.
She should not do this.
She should not look.
She only needed to keep walking forward.
Her heart was clearly screaming this wildly, yet her body would not obey.
What did she see?
She saw scarlet. She saw dark red. She saw ghastly yellow. She saw faint, bone-white patches.
It was sothing round, like a wheel.
When reason recognized what it was, it was as if she had drowned in water. She could not breathe at all. There was only her constantly rising heartbeat, and an intense urge to vomit.
She could not hold it in.
“Mm... Gah! Ugh... Ugh... Cough, cough, cough... Urgh...”
She was wretched beyond comparison. Snot and tears stread down her face, rging with the filth from her stomach into the dirty water on the ground.
Vaguely, red swirls spread through the water, like blooming flowers.
What exactly was going on?
Why was she here, and why had she just happened to see all of this?
She had no clue at all.
She only knew that the dark, underworld-like cold wind was howling ever more bitterly.
Suddenly, the corner of her eye caught sothing. Her eyes, gradually adjusting to the darkness, discovered a thin yet enormous outline hidden within the shadows.
As if responding to her gaze, that outline stood up. In the next instant, it was right before her.
Even though it was close enough to touch, the outline was still only an outline. The shadow was still only a shadow.
She could not make it out. She could not see it. She could not perceive it.
She could not understand.
“Uwaaaaaaah!!!!!”
Was she going to die?
Her legs trembled unconsciously. Her thoughts had completely frozen. Not the slightest intent to resist rose within her.
Was it going to end here?
She felt as if ** was a little warm, sticky, and terribly uncomfortable.
She was about to...
A sudden gust of wind rose, making her feel a kind of... special lightness.
Ah, she could see it clearly now. That enormous shadow seed to be shaped like a person.
Ah, no wonder she felt lighter. She could no longer feel her own body.
Ah, so that was how it was. Her situation had beco the sa as the thing that had fallen before her.
Ah, she was going to die.
Ignorant, lost, and young girl that she was, she shed tears in the final mont of her life. From that ruined place that should originally have been connected to her body, she made her final call. It was also her last words.
“Mom...”
...
“!!!”
She suddenly sat up.
Leticia’s eyes were still filled with confusion. She looked at the clouds drifting constantly across the sky, at the large tree beside her, then at the stream and bridge not far away. Sowhat stunned, she murmured to herself, “A dream?”
Then she silently lay back down.
She kept feeling that her head had landed on sothing soft, but for the mont, it did not attract her attention.
Had she dread?
And it had been a completely incomprehensible nightmare.
In a strange town, in a strange alley, a strange girl had been killed by a strange thing.
A completely baffling dream.
Leticia summarized it this way. She could not understand the contents of the dream at all, just like the girl who had been killed in the dream.
The experience of that scene had been far too real, so much so that Leticia’s slender neck produced faint bursts of pain...
As if her neck really had been torn off.
“You’re awake?”
Ilo’s voice finally pulled Leticia back into reality. Looking at the sowhat dazed Leticia, Ilo smiled softly. “Did you sleep comfortably?”
“Uh?”
Only at this mont did Leticia realize that from just now until now, she had been enjoying Ilo’s lap pillow...
Suddenly, that was a little interesting.
“Why did I fall asleep?”
Leticia sat up as if nothing had happened, coughed in a way that was awkward yet graceful, and looked at Ilo with narrowed eyes. “Sorry for causing you trouble.”
“It’s fine.”
Ilo’s smile was filled with gentleness. She looked as reliable as an older sister watching over her younger siblings. “Evelyn’s sleeping face is very cute, you know. It wouldn’t have mattered if you slept a little longer.”
“I’m really sorry...”
Leticia pouted slightly. “And I don’t even rember why I fell asleep...”
She had no impression of it at all. Her mories seed to have stopped around the mont Ilo wanted her to stay. By the ti she regained them, she was already lying down, her head resting on Ilo’s knees.
Although the hardness of bone was quite obvious, the softness of a girl had still been transmitted very well.
“Mm?”
Ilo’s expression looked sowhat surprised. “Evelyn, do you really not care about your own body at all?”
Body?
Seeing Leticia’s confused face, Ilo seed rather troubled. “Honestly, you...”
She reached out, picked a blade of grass from the ground beside her, squeezed out the juice inside, and wiped it onto Leticia’s forehead.
The cool sensation was pleasant. Her skin could even feel the breath of the earth and the fragrance of fresh grass.
This made Leticia feel very comfortable, but it also highlighted the abnormality in her body.
Weakness. She had originally thought it was because she had just woken up, but after she beca fully conscious, it grew increasingly obvious. That dull sensation, as if her body had rusted, made Leticia frown.
It was not only weakness. After feeling the coolness of the grass juice, the heat inside her body beca even more obvious.
Had it worsened...
“My throat only felt a little uncomfortable this morning...”
After muttering softly, Leticia turned to look at Ilo and pulled out a slight smile. “Sorry. Looks like I’ve caused you trouble.”
