Wu Yue watched Qingcao slap her own face, then viciously rub it a couple of tis. Her legs started to tremble. ’What kind of grudge is this?’
’She’s so brutal!’
Qingcao, her chubby face scrunched up, held out the hand she had just used to smack herself. "Yue, didn’t you get bitten?"
Staring at the mosquito in her palm—a creature as big as a knuckle—Wu Yue felt a wave of goosebumps break out all over her body.
’Holy crap! Is this damn thing a mosquito?’
’This has to be against the rules. Did it grow up on steroids or sothing?’
But then, she heard the faint, distinctive buzzing of more mosquitoes. Wu Yue followed the sound and saw several more taking off from the nearby grass. Their target was obvious.
’So we didn’t co here to bathe at all. We ca here to be washed for the mosquitoes.’
’Getting ourselves all clean for them to bite.’
She silently shuffled closer behind Qingcao. ’This way, maybe the giant mosquitoes won’t notice .’
"Host, please cease this pointless, sneaky behavior. A mosquito is already flying your way."
Wu Yue’s face stiffened. She looked up and saw a huge mosquito with a long proboscis flying straight at her. A sense of dread washed over her.
But with not so much as a wide leaf to use as a weapon, she could only prepare to fight it off with her bare hands.
But...
When the giant mosquito was just a short distance from Wu Yue, it suddenly slamd on the brakes mid-air in a perfect stop, then turned and flew with its companions toward Qingcao.
Wu Yue: "..."
’What was that about?’
’I don’t like you either, but wasn’t that sudden stop a little much?’
’How humiliating!’
But would the mosquito listen? Of course not!
"System, can you tell what that fat, bloated mosquito was just thinking?"
System: "Host, while I’m flattered you think so highly of , could you please not make things difficult for a System that’s just trying to get by!"
Wu Yue gave a dry laugh. "I just get the feeling that mosquito had a lot on its mind."
After a long silence, the System said cautiously, "Alright, I’ll try to translate for you. But you have to promise not to deduct my points!"
Little Commander was living in poverty right now. It wanted to split every single point in half to make it last longer, so of course it needed so assurance.
Wu Yue magnanimously waved her hand. "Go on, translate. I’ve always been a very generous person."
The System automatically ignored that last part and said, "Well, I think that mosquito must be a bit nearsighted. It probably didn’t realize how skinny you are until it got up close.
It was probably afraid its proboscis would just hit bone and it wouldn’t get a single drop of blood, so it flew off."
Wu Yue looked at the System, which was getting smugger with every word, and sneered inwardly.
"Your allowance has been docked. Deduction: 5 points. The System is advised to conduct a tily self-review and provide the Host with a higher quality of service."
The chanical voice always ca so unexpectedly.
The System let out a "WAAAH!" and started crying. "Didn’t you promise not to deduct my points?! So you’re the kind of Host who goes back on her word!"
"Oh, you must have been mistaken. I’ve always been a spontaneous and free-spirited Host."
Wu Yue praised herself, her expression perfectly shaless.
Staring at the points that had mysteriously vanished from its account, the pitiful Little Commander’s heart ached so much it felt like it was spasming. It curled up in a corner, whimpering sadly.
anwhile, Qingcao, having finished off a small pile of mosquitoes, finally dusted off her hands and leaned back contentedly against the wall of the pool.
Next to her hand was a pile of mosquito corpses...
