The stomachs of all the Beastn rumbled loudly again.
"Wu Yue, are they the bad Beastn who captured you?"
A Pure Human cub, who didn’t even reach a Beastman’s thigh, ca running over on his short legs, his big eyes filled with hostility as he stared at the Scorpion Beastn behind Wu Yue.
Wu Yue nodded. "That’s right. They did sothing bad, so I brought them back to dig caves for us."
Hearing this, the Pure Human cub’s expression grew even more hostile. "They just look like bad people."
The Angry Beast was instantly displeased. He cracked what he considered a very ’friendly’ smile at the little cub and said, "Do I look like a bad guy?"
The little cub looked a bit scared, but when he saw Wu Yue standing nearby and smiling at him, he imdiately puffed out his still-skinny little chest. "You look even more like one when you smile."
At these words, not only Wu Yue but even the other Scorpion Beastn couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Seeing Wu Yue smile, the little cub also started to chuckle.
The only one there who wasn’t smiling was the Angry Beast, who the little cub had just called a bad beast.
Looking at the little cub’s innocently joyful smile, much of the frustration in the Angry Beast’s heart lted away, though he still grumbled, "Little cubs are the absolute worst."
After saying goodbye to the little cub, Wu Yue continued to lead the Scorpion Beastn deeper into the cave.
The Angry Beast walked up to Wu Yue and glanced at her. "That cub looked very young. Why is he left in a place so near the entrance?"
Wu Yue gave him a surprised look before replying, "Because he’s a slave’s child. The ones living out here are all slaves of our tribe."
The Angry Beast: "!!!"
The Scorpion Beastn: "!!!"
’So... all that mouth-watering food they saw earlier was what the slaves were eating?’
’And slaves get to live in the sa caves the tribe uses to take shelter during the great rainy season?’
’They looked over at the slaves, who always seed to have faint smiles on their faces. They sniffed the fragrant aroma wafting from their stone pots. They thought back to the satisfied expressions on the slaves’ faces as they ate those wild vegetable balls...’
’Damn it!’
’Since when was a Beastman’s life worse than a slave’s?!’
The Angry Beast’s eyebrow twitched, and he looked ready to fly into a rage. But as soon as he raised his head, he saw that scary little female giving him a aningful look. With a PFFT, the tiny fla of anger that had just sparked in his heart was instantly extinguished.
He forced a laugh. "I really didn’t expect the slaves in your tribe to live so well."
Wu Yue retracted her aningful gaze and smiled. "Of course. Our tribe’s slaves work very hard. As long as they contribute to the tribe, they will always be rewarded."
The eyes of the Angry Beast and all the Scorpion Beastn lit up instantly. "So if we do a good job digging the caves, will we get good food to eat too?"
Wu Yue pondered for a mont. "I’m not the one in charge of your food, so I’m not really sure about that.
But if you work hard, and Grandma, who is in charge of the food, sees it, she’ll probably give you so extra."
Upon hearing this, the naive Scorpion Tribe Beastn were instantly filled with energy.
One after another, they puffed out their chests, their greenish faces filled with determination as they looked at Wu Yue. "Where do we dig the caves? Take us there, quick!"
Seeing them look as if they could dig ten caves in one go without breaking a sweat, Wu Yue couldn’t help but laugh to herself.
She led them to an unexcavated section of the cave wall. "You can start digging here. Carve it out level by level, and rember to leave behind steps to get up and a walkway."
Filled with motivation at the thought of the delicious food he’d slled earlier, the Angry Beast waved his hand dismissively. "Don’t worry about a little thing like this."
Wu Yue smiled. "It doesn’t need to be too big. Just enough for four Beastn to live in will be fine."
With that, she turned and left.
It was only then that the Scorpion Beastn felt waves of unusually intense stares from all around them. The gazes were fixed directly on them, raising goosebumps on their skin.
They turned around stiffly, only to see that the Pure Humans, who had just been sitting by the fire and preparing food, were now staring at them with eyes that seed to sparkle.
Seeing the Scorpion Beastn turn around, one of the Pure Humans even waved enthusiastically. "You go on and dig! We’ll just watch, hehe..."
