The Beastn: "..."
’That may be true, but you don’t have to be so blunt about it. Is there no love for your fellow tribesn?’
"You’ve all worked really hard these past few days. Our tribe mbers were busy cleaning the caves, so the food was sent over to the slaves. But so delicious food will be brought over for you shortly."
Wu Yue’s voice ca from behind them. The beastn shuddered, their previously straight backs hunching over a little.
The Angry Beast, looking as though he were bearing the unbearable weight of existence, said, "Back in our tribe, we lived in caves and ate the fattest, choicest prey. Now... SIGH..."
As he spoke, he turned to the side, revealing one of his own tribesn behind him, holding a wild vegetable ball and gobbling it down with gusto...
"If we didn’t trust you, looking at everyone’s faces, I’d think you had poisoned us again."
Wu Yue coughed lightly. ’If you don’t want to eat the vegetable balls, just say so,’ she thought. ’No need to bring up all this other nonsense.’
She jerked her chin toward the cave entrance. "Look, the slaves are bringing food. Today, you’ll have sothing you’ve never eaten before. It’s guaranteed to be delicious."
The slaves carried over two large woven baskets and a massive stone pot. Inside the pot was the sa food they’d had last ti, sothing called dough drop soup.
The other two strange bundles, woven from vines, held palm-sized portions of food that gave off a light, fresh aroma.
Wu Yue bent down, picked up a piece of the flatbread, and took the bowl of dough drop soup a slave handed her. She first drank so of the savory, fragrant soup, then took a bite of the crispy, baked flatbread.
The smooth soup and the crispy flatbread mingled in her mouth. It was so delicious she wanted to devour it all in one go!
She soaked the rest of the flatbread in the soup. The crispy bread absorbed the broth and plumped up. When she picked up a piece and bit down, it burst with flavor in her mouth.
After finishing her bowl of dough drop soup and a piece of flatbread with great relish, Wu Yue wiped her mouth with a flourish. "Delicious! You guys...!!!"
She had been about to raise her head and invite the Scorpion Tribe Beastn to eat when she saw the whole group staring at her with resentful expressions. Wu Yue looked at them, a bit confused. "What’s wrong?"
The Angry Beast stared at the stone pot, now missing a bowl of soup. He looked as devastated as if he’d lost an entire large kill. "There wasn’t much to begin with, and you went and ate a whole big bowl."
Wu Yue glanced down at the stone bowl in her hands, which was easily the size of a beastman’s head, and felt rather awkward. "Uh, right. I’ll have Chang Ye and the others make another pot for you."
With that, she turned and bolted.
Watching the scary little female’s rare mont of embarrassnt, the Angry Beast wanted nothing more than to put his hands on his hips and roar with laughter.
But considering he was in her territory, after all, he decided it was best to keep a low profile. He suppressed the laugh that was about to escape with a couple of light coughs.
Looking as smug as a cub who had just won a tussle, he began to call his fellow tribesn over to eat.
In the distance, a little cub held in its Amu’s arms watched the Scorpion Beastn wolfing down their food, its big, dark, glistening eyes full of confusion.
"Amu, why are those Beastman uncles so pleased with themselves? They did so much work, and Lord Wuyue only gave them so food."
The cub’s Amu grinned and patted her little one’s bottom. "Because they’ve all been won over by Lord Wuyue’s delicious food."
She added with an all-knowing look, "Lord Wuyue definitely wanted to give these beastn a small taste of a reward to get them to do even more work. Lord Wuyue is just that kind of cunning witch."
Wuyue, who happened to be walking right past the female: "..."
’You understand so well. I’m *so* grateful to you!’
’Seriously, what kind of image does a perfect, kind, modern woman like have in all your heads?!’
But...
Watching the group of Scorpion Tribe Beastman Warriors stuffing their faces, her eyes, shaped like crescent moons, narrowed slightly.
’Hmm... I do have a big project that needs so extra hands. They aren’t doing anything else, anyway. And since the Scorpion Tribe’s beastn have eaten such delicious food, it’s only right for them to help out a little, isn’t it?’
System: "So, Host, you’re not exactly a good person, are you?"
Wu Yue: "Aren’t you proud to have a host like ?"
The System pouted, about to retort, when it saw a small arrow already hovering nacingly over the "Deduct" button for its allowance account.
It silently shed two streams of frustrated tears. "Of course, the Host is the kindest modern woman there is."
’I never should have listened to that Dog Host and set up a separate allowance account! Now, she uses it to threaten at the drop of a hat!’
Just as Wu Yue was enjoying the flattery from her System, a sudden commotion erupted at the cave entrance, accompanied by the roars of beastn.
Wu Yue’s heart tightened. ’What’s happening?’
