"These chickens really don’t run away."
Grandma Hua Shu remarked.
Wu Yue smiled. "They have people feeding them and even catching bugs for them. It’s safe to forage here. Chickens aren’t stupid; of course they’re going to stick around and not leave."
Hearing her explanation, all the won started to laugh.
She led them into the chicken pen, and sure enough, they found several eggs in the grass nests inside.
Wu Yue walked over and picked up the eggs from a nest. "These are the eggs I was talking about. They’re delicious boiled or scrambled."
Grandma Hua Shu took an egg and examined it for a mont. "I think I’ve eaten this kind of egg before."
It wasn’t just her; several of the other won around her frowned. "We’ve eaten them too. The taste is so rank, it makes you want to throw up."
Wu Yue laughed. "If you eat them raw, of course they won’t taste good. Raw eggs have a rank taste, but they beco delicious once they’re cooked."
With that, she held up the eggs in her hand. "Co on, I’ll go make sothing delicious for everyone to try."
Seeing her confident expression, the won couldn’t help but feel a little expectant.
When it ca to making delicious food, the won had already learned many thods under Wu Yue’s influence. So could even extrapolate from what they knew to create new dishes of their own.
Everyone had eaten eggs before, but only when they were starving, because in the past, the tribe mbers ate most of their collected food raw.
So when a raw egg—with its strong, rank taste and a hint of a strange stench—entered their mouths, the sensation was like eating feces. It’s a feeling that’s impossible to understand unless you’ve experienced it.
Wu Yue took the collected eggs and prepared them two ways: boiled and scrambled.
The boiled eggs took longer because the eggs here were enormous, but scrambling them was much simpler.
After the Beast Oil lted in the pot and released its characteristic aroma, Wu Yue poured the beaten eggs straight in.
The mont the liquid egg hit the scorching oil, it let out a loud SIZZLE, and an unusual fragrance instantly filled the air.
The tribe mbers watched as the foul-slling egg liquid turned a golden yellow after entering the stone pot, beginning to emit an aroma completely different from before. One by one, their eyes widened in shock.
So, it wasn’t that the eggs were bad, but simply that they didn’t know how to eat them.
When she brought out the scrambled eggs, the won imdiately scooped out a piece each from the stone pot and put it in their mouths.
The tender and fragrant scrambled eggs conquered the won’s stomachs in an instant.
"I never would have thought scrambled eggs could be this delicious."
"Why does the rank sll disappear after you cook them?"
"Maybe that rank sll is only there when the eggs are raw," Wu Yue guessed.
Chatting amongst themselves, they finished off the small portion of scrambled eggs and began to look forward to the taste of the boiled ones.
Seeing their expectant looks, Wu Yue smiled and said, "Because you ate the scrambled eggs first, the boiled ones might taste a bit plain to you, but they’re still delicious and have no rank sll at all."
With that, she used a ladle to scoop a whole boiled egg out of the pot. After letting it cool slightly, she tapped the shell and peeled it away.
The peeled egg was no longer the liquid the won rembered, but a tender white orb that looked almost as if it were still wrapped in a shell.
Wu Yue used a shell knife to cut the boiled egg into small portions. "Everyone, co have a taste."
"Yue, what is this white part?" Grandma Hua Shu asked, breaking off a piece of the egg white and sniffing it.
"That’s the egg white."
Wu Yue replied, "It’s the transparent liquid you saw flow out when the shell was broken. It turns into this when it’s cooked.
The middle part is the yolk."
"Sho ’elishush!"
A woman’s cry of amazent sounded from the side. Everyone turned to look and saw that Shui had already stuffed her piece of boiled egg into her mouth and eaten it.
Seeing her blissful expression, eyes squinted in enjoynt, everyone couldn’t help but gulp. They stopped studying the structure of the boiled egg in their hands and stuffed it directly into their mouths.
A plain boiled egg is all about the inherent flavor of the egg itself. Without the rank stench of its raw form, it had a light, sweet, and natural aroma. The won all closed their eyes in enjoynt.
Grandma Hua Shu swallowed the boiled egg in her mouth, licked her fingers, and sighed in admiration. "It’s true. So many foods have been right in front of us, but we just never discovered the right way to eat them."
Wu Yue nodded. "Right now, our food cos from the n’s hunts and the Collection Team’s harvest."
"Just think, if we raise lots and lots of chickens in the future, we’ll have eggs to eat every day. If we have too many chickens, we can even butcher them for at. Wouldn’t that be great?"
