"No need to count. I bet you don’t dare to deceive ! Let’s go, guys!" With that shout from the ’foreman,’ everyone in the courtyard quickly followed him and left.
The courtyard suddenly beca quiet.
"Dad? What’s going on?" An Hao asked.
"Nothing, nothing." An Shuchao tugged at the coat draped over him, looking at his two children with both happiness and worry.
"Dad, these people weren’t here to work, right? They looked more like debt collectors to ." Anyone could see the clues from such a scene, let alone An Hao.
"No, really not! They were just here to work, quickly co inside!" An Shuchao swallowed his words; these weren’t things ant for the children to know.
It was rare for both children to co back for a day; he didn’t want to bring these things up and trouble their minds.
"Dad, are you sure everything’s okay?" An Hao couldn’t quite believe it.
"Really! Really nothing’s wrong! How could Dad deceive you?" An Shuchao forced a relaxed smile, "Or do you think at my age I can still go out and get into trouble for you?"
"That’s true." An Ping believed.
The father was an honest man.
He surely wouldn’t stir up trouble.
"Let’s go, let’s go, go inside first! Dad hasn’t seen the two of you for so long, let’s have a good chat!" An Shuchao diverted the topic, drawing the two children into the house.
"As long as you’re okay, we’re happy to chat with you." An Hao temporarily breathed a sigh of relief.
"Why hasn’t Qin Jian co back? How are the kids? I haven’t seen my dear grandchildren for a while, they must have grown quite a bit!" An Shuchao made tea for his children, sitting down to chat with An Hao.
"Qin Jian has gone to the Army Command College for learning, he probably won’t be back for over a year! He’s guilty about not being able to return, so he bought so things for to specifically bring to you. It’s his way of showing his thoughts." An Hao said while piling the items in front of An Shuchao.
"Made you spend money again. I don’t lack anything here, tell Qin Jian he doesn’t need to feel obliged to buy things all the ti." An Shuchao said.
"Spending money on you, is that even called spending?" An Hao laughed, "Respecting the father-in-law is sothing he should do, isn’t it?"
With one sentence, An Shuchao was delighted: "I’m very satisfied with such a son-in-law. You have no idea how much others envy ! Now, my status in the village is quite high, whoever sees shows respect!"
Originally, An Shuchao said this to reassure his son, but unexpectedly it had the opposite effect.
"Dad, stop being so happy! My sister and I heard on the way back that people in the village were saying sothing happened at ho, what’s really going on?" Rembering the scene at the village bridge, An Ping’s heart started to worry.
"It’s nothing. Don’t listen to people’s idle gossip."
The more An Shuchao said this, the more it proved that there was indeed sothing happening.
"Dad, don’t hide it from us. You’re not soone who would lie; your eyes have already revealed everything! Co on, what’s really happening?" An Hao asked directly, "The people in the courtyard just now weren’t working, were they? Did you get into trouble?"
Seeing he couldn’t hide it from his two children, An Shuchao sighed and spoke directly: "Your second uncle is back!"
"What?" An Hao thought she misheard, "Dad, did I hear you wrong? Did you just say my second uncle is back?"
