Throwing my spell orbs through the rifts made oddly reminiscent of the ti Vee and I had tried this together. Of course, that was the first ti we were trying out the spell orbs, and I had mixed in plenty of conflicting elents since I didn't really know what I was doing.
Now, though, my mastery of sli and magic was vastly superior and couldn't even be compared to my past self. I wasn't too worried about creating chaotic essence, since I was only using light Mana, and it would also be confined to the dungeon depths.
Even if I do make so, I can ask Vee to clean it up. Heck, there's a chance I could do it myself, too, with [Spatial Severing].
I would close and reopen rifts around the battlefield, scattering more and more spell orbs under the cover of repeatedly exploding flashbangs. The best part was that the more I did this, the more comfortable the [Dungeon Master] appeared.
"The darkness is eternal in the abyss, you're just wasting your ti and Mana with these paltry spells," he mocked.
I had to agree with him, with [Light Magic] alone, I couldn't defeat the shadows. With each shadowy entity I killed, it was like three more were ready to take its place.
If Vee were here, I bet she'd say I'm getting a taste of my own dicine.
I knew I didn't have a monopoly on tentacles or wielding shapeless mass as a weapon, but it really did feel eerily similar. Yet, almost strangely, the [Dungeon Master] himself didn't make a move to attack himself, which was where the main difference was between him and .
Is he physically weak? I an, he is a shadow… Shadows aren't exactly known for their brawn.
While I liked to attack with a swarm of sli or a barrage of magic, I also loved to jump into the fray myself. Yet he was more than happy to sit back and control the shadows to do his bidding.
Even though I was suspicious about his fighting capabilities, I remained cautious as he was also a [Dungeon Master] and I didn't know how he could use that in battle. Could he summon actual monsters at the drop of a hat? I had no idea, and thus I wanted to bring things to a close with a giant bang.
I think I'm ready, let's go!
I could feel all my prid bombs ready to go, and as I focused my attention on my true opponent, I detonated them. My vision was overwheld, and the dark abyss was drowned out in a blinding light. If not for [Spatial Sense] and [Personal Rift] working in tandem, I would have lost track of my surroundings; whether it was sight, sense, or vision, it seed everything was overwheld.
Light Mana flooded into the abyss, explosions echoed endlessly, deafening anyone unfortunate enough to be here, essence went wild as creatures were slain, and that was just the start of it. I had hoped that by sticking to one Mana type I would avoid a repeat of my previous catastrophe, but it now looked like I had failed to take into account what forcing so much light into the abyss would do.
Through [Spatial Sense], I could detect that the [Dungeon Master] was writhing in pain, no doubt due to his domain collapsing and his opposed elent assaulting him. I figured this was the best opportunity I had, and so I ignored everything else and teleported towards him with [Blink].
Jumping straight into the fire was harder than I thought. I had expected to be immune to the explosions, but the sheer chaos was overwhelming even my defenses. I reinforced myself with mithril sli, since it seed the best counter to the surging light Mana, and attempted to grab onto the octopus.
Of course, grabbing onto him wasn't the only thing I was trying to do, as I had withdrawn my workers from [Core Storage], including the donated ones from my personas. My order was simple: fold and cut.
While they were obeying that command, I was also letting my [Dinsion Magic] go wild. I had cast [Displaced], and in an effort to prevent him from retreating, I started trying to lock down his coordinates. If he fled, I would bring him straight back to the firing line.
From what I could tell, things seed to be working, though without visual or auditory confirmation, it was hard to ascertain. Usually, my opponents would scream or shout, but if he was, it was drowned out by the explosions. Likewise, I could see him through [Spatial Sense], and I could see my attacks distorting him, but it was still hard to tell.
My hope for more feedback was to grapple with him with my sli, and I hoped that with [Luminous Sli] I could physically fight him. My tendrils reached him, but to my dismay, it was like trying to grab onto smoke. Still, I had noticed a slight change, and while I couldn't grab him, my glowing sli was still a weapon, and I could vaguely tell it was burning through his shadows.
Capitalizing on this, I started forming an arsenal of unicorn horns to use as spears to stab at him. Each one struck at his form, and I watched in real ti as his shadowy mass was being slowly consud in the light.
On the dinsional front, my cuts were effective, slicing through his shadowy form like no other. This affird that he was considered an 'entity' as far as the skill was concerned, and thus, I had another perfect attack against him. I only wished I had discovered more of the effects behind [Spatial Severing] through [Skill Deconstruct], as then I could possibly apply it to myself as a sort of magical buff.
At this point, the explosions had ceased, and my other senses were beginning to recover. I could finally see what was happening, and boy, did it look like hell. The shadowy octopus was now fully revealed, though his form seed almost suppressed by the abundant light still present in the abyss. He had shriveled up and was coiling over himself as if trying to protect himself, not even bothering to try to fight back.
I felt bad for a mont. I had effectively destroyed his ho and turned it against him, and was now ruthlessly attacking him. His domineering presence was entirely gone; he looked like a creature desperately trying to survive.
Right as I was considering whether to offer to spare him if he surrendered, sothing occurred in the dungeon. The dark, damp abyss was suddenly flooded with, not unlike when I destroyed the do of Azulean, and this massive room instantly felt the pressure of the depths. But that wasn't where it ended, and I could sense essence flowing and solidifying, drawn in from so unknown location.
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not ant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
I'd never seen essence behave like this before, and I realized why as soon as an entire army of monsters was spawned in the blink of an eye. At a glance, I could tell that their quality was a little questionable, perhaps a downside of instantly spawning them rather than nurturing them down certain evolutionary or mutation paths. However, what they lacked in quality, they made up for in numbers and sheer mindless devotion.
They mindlessly charged at with claws, fangs, pincers, or even just threw their bodies at . A massive whale monster had even spawned, and its intent was obvious: to force itself between its master and .
I portioned off so of my [Sub-Cores] to deal with the incoming army. While they weren't a threat, they could get in the way, which was the bigger issue. I predicted that the [Dungeon Master] was planning on escaping from his actions and his lack of fighting back, and at the mont, it looked like he was slowly succeeding.
As much as I damaged him, he was regrowing with startling ferocity. While the abyss had been drowned in light, the darkness had not been removed entirely. Every shadow that remained was being drawn towards the octopus and devoured the second they ca into contact. Even my own shadow was swallowed by this monstrosity, and while it didn't appear to damage , it undid a large majority of the damage I had inflicted on him.
Ugh! I hate fighting regenerators!
Naturally, I had tried to use [Bloodrot] and a few other poisons for good asure, but none of them had even the slightest effect against this shadowy cephalopod. It beca rapidly apparent that to fight entities such as this, you needed the right tools to do the job.
And I've only got [Spatial Severing]!
I tried a few other things, like swallowing him into my [Personal Rift], yet any portion of his body that was caught in the aperture was swiftly discarded. I couldn't help but compare him to myself; he was like a shadow sli, and his form was just as endlessly malleable.
At this rate, he's going to get away!
I was furious. I began lashing out with more spell orbs that I was instantly detonating in the hopes of destroying his form. He must have sensed this and tried fleeing, but I sneered and forced his coordinates into a [Lock].
His body shuddered, and then he did the unthinkable and jettisoned a large portion of his body. From my perspective, his personal coordinates suddenly multiplied; he had scattered most of his body into multiple shadowy forms in an attempt to deceive . So while I had locked down one of his bodies, the other seven were free to flee.
"Co back here, you coward!" I roared. I ordered all [Sub-Cores] to work on casting [Lock]; he was not allowed to escape!
"I'll rember this insult!" his nurous bodies cried out. "All of my savings, all of my preparations, gone in an instant!"
I had the feeling that if even one of his shadow splits escaped, he would get away. The only issue was that more and more monsters were being spawned and literally throwing themselves at .
The worst part was that his bodies were fleeing in different directions, and while I caught a few of them, they were clearly sacrifices he was willing to make. Not only that, but the deeper into the abyss they fled, the more darkness they had to supplent their forms. So of the captured forms I had caught exploded into mist, and if that wasn't annoying enough, one of the escaping splits after assimilating more shadows would make another split.
He can only have eight splits at once, but he can kill one to make more. He's really willing to sacrifice anything and everything to get away!
It really was like trying to catch your own shadow, and the more I failed, the more I realized there was nothing I could do. I had part of the tools needed, but I hadn't prepared enough. While I was still desperately trying to succeed, a sudden notification sent a ripple of rage through my heart.
"Damn it!" I cursed.
"Oh great, things just keep getting better and better!" I snapped angrily.
My bubble of rage popped. Evidently, I didn't need to kill him, and his fleeing his own dungeon was enough justification to demote him.
It's optional? I was genuinely surprised. Yet I couldn't think of any reason not to take it, after all, this was why I had co here in the first place.
Yes!
"CUBE?"
I looked around. I wasn't sure what this CUBE was, as all I could see was remnants of the monsters left behind. I began my cleanup, eating what I could and exploring the depths of this abyss. The oppressive darkness was receding, and all my senses were rapidly recovering.
To my shocking discovery, this room was actually smaller than I previously realized. Not unlike when I used [Expand], sothing similar had been happening here, allowing the shadows and darkness to accumulate beyond normal levels. More and more confird that the octopus was so form of entity, as how else could it affect space like this, and it didn't have a dinsional affinity as far as I could tell.
As more of the darkness receded and the space began to stabilize, I found the center of the room. Sitting upon a decadent throne was a shimring cube that glimred between pearlescent white and iridescent black.
I tried using [Identify] on it, but it failed. I cautiously picked it up with an extended tendril, and the object abruptly identified itself for .
I stared at the CUBE, bewildered. Seemingly, this was one of the greatest secrets behind [Dungeon Masters] and sothing I had no idea existed. The CUBE was as light as a feather, and I tried poking and prodding it to no effect.
"I guess I'll just keep it for now?"
To my surprise, I could safely store away the CUBE in my [Core Storage]. I had assud it would be too important for that, but apparently not. If it was so easy to move around, I wondered why the shadow octopus left it behind.
"Or maybe it can't leave the dungeon once it's established?"
I had many questions, and sadly, very few answers. I wondered how long it would take for my application to be processed, and I couldn't even examine the [Dungeon Master] Emblem at the mont.
I was still peeved at the octopus escaping, as that was experience points that were robbed from and potentially an exquisite profile to devour.
"I guess I'll just take out my anger on the rest of the dungeon. I've got two more guardians to eat and four days to rob this place blind."
