Ugo lay at the center of the pit, having reverted to his original human form, but his body was thoroughly charred, with hardly a patch of intact skin.

Sunan slowly descended to the ground, shrugged as he looked at Ugo’s miserable state.

"Considering you were a bell ringer, I intended to leave you a whole corpse, but since you tried to escape, it ended up like this, there’s nothing I can do now."

Ugo stared wide-eyed at Sunan, unable to hide the unwillingness, fear, and despair in his eyes, producing strange hissing sounds as if he wanted to say sothing.

He was unwilling.

He still longed to live longer, at least until he ascended to an Official Wizard.

If he had known Sunan’s deep reserves, he would have never coveted the Divine Remains, and would have fled as far as possible!

But it was too late for regrets now.

Sunan shook his head without saying much, flicked his finger, and a streak of lightning pierced through Ugo’s brow, taking his life.

Once he confird Ugo’s death, Sunan collected the four doom rings, now drained of energy, and put on four fresh ones.

Upon returning to the underground world, he subsequently crafted a large number of doom rings and protection rings, totaling more than forty, all to crush opponents with ample equipnt during battles.

And indeed, this strategy proved very effective.

Ugo’s final trump card couldn’t make a dent against the nurous doom rings.

More importantly, doom rings could be reused, unlike high-level rune gemstones which were single-use consumables.

By making frequent use of the doom rings in battle, he could save a big part of the high-level rune gemstones.

Even though Sunan now profits richly from mining, he still believes in saving where possible as there will be many places needing money later.

Coming to his senses, Sunan approached Ugo’s side, retrieving his Space Ring and a few alchemy-level magical items, then returned to the forr battlefield.

With Ugo’s death, the swarm fell into chaos, and many insects were no longer fixated on attacking Ghost Lake City, scattering in all directions instead.

The bell ringer too seed to regain its will, attempting to break out and flee.

Finding an Exotic Beast with an ancient bloodline, Sunan was not about to let the bell ringer escape, and joined the encirclent without a word.

With Sunan’s intervention, the bell ringer quickly fell into a disadvantage.

This ancient-blooded exotic insect had intelligence rivaling humans, and upon realizing defeat, it promptly lay on the ground in a surrendering posture.

"It does possess so intelligence."

With a few Weakening Beams from Sunan, the bell ringer soon beca languid and was escorted back to Ghost Lake City by two Elite Stone Golems.

Sunan then returned to the opposite side of the lake.

The insects on the island had nearly all fled, leaving the Golem Legion to clean up the remaining ones.

On the city wall, Carolina eagerly awaited, and upon seeing Sunan return, she breathed a sigh of relief.

Though the situation across the lake was unclear, the noise clearly indicated their master had encountered a formidable foe.

Though confident in their master’s prowess, she couldn’t help but worry.

After all, the safety of Ghost Lake City now hinged entirely on Sunan.

If Sunan were to fall, survival in the perilous underground world would be impossible with less than a hundred human-faced lion warriors and a group of cannon fodder slaves.

Not to ntion, Matu and Auson wouldn’t spare the vulnerable Ghost Lake City.

"Master!"

Carolina opened the city gate and greeted him, but stopped short, staring in shock at the bell ringer.

What is this?

A Funeral Beetle?

But its size is enormous!

"Master, what is this?" Carolina couldn’t help but ask curiously.

"An exotic insect with an ancient bloodline."

Sunan casually recounted Ugo’s situation.

Upon hearing that Kasham’s mastermind was a Wizard, Carolina was stunned.

She hadn’t expected that the insect plague, which had troubled Ghost Lake, Matu, and Auson’s three city-states for years, was orchestrated by a Wizard.

Looking at the master before her, Carolina couldn’t help but marvel inwardly.

Wizards are indeed fearso beings!

Each one capable of causing such a commotion.

"But Master, what is the purpose of the Wizard controlling the insect plague?" Carolina asked, furrowing her brow in confusion.

Judging from today’s situation, Kasham actually had the power to sever and control the three city-states one by one, yet why hadn’t he acted over the years, only periodically sending swarms to attack them?

"Who knows." Sunan shook his head.

Though he already had so speculation in his mind.

Most likely Ugo needed to collect souls or flesh for so purpose, using the three city-states as renewable resource points, harvesting them periodically.

As for the true reason, it would only be clear after taking down Kasham.

Sunan checked Ugo’s ring, finding mostly Gold Coins and gemstones, along with mostly worthless clutter.

He guessed Ugo must have placed truly valuable items in Kashamri, which perhaps houses Ugo’s laboratory.

"Have soone keep an eye on Matu and Auson and report to imdiately if there’s any movent."

Seeing that the battlefield had been cleared of insects, Sunan packed up his golems and headed straight for Kasham.

No ti should be wasted, he needed to swiftly take down Kasham and acquire Ugo’s inheritance.

Once that’s dealt with, he can turn his attention to Matu and Auson.

"Yes, Master."

Carolina slightly bowed, watching Sunan’s figure disappear into the distant darkness, then slowly straightened up, narrowing her eyes as she surveyed the surroundings.

Initially, she hadn’t linked the situation to Matu and Auson.

But after learning of the mastermind behind Kasham, and today’s context, she imdiately realized Matu and Auson likely already reached so agreent with Kasham.

Given her understanding of the Red Widow and Duke Black, these two were likely hiding in the shadows right now, observing the battle here.

Should Ghost Lake City and Kasham suffer mutual destruction, or either side annihilate the other with heavy losses, these two cunning, treacherous individuals would definitely pounce to reap the benefits.

Alas, they ultimately underestimated the master’s strength.

Kasham’s attack didn’t even manage to hurt the master, instead, the orchestrating Wizard died at the master’s hands.

Now, the insect plague threat was thoroughly eradicated, and Kasham would soon fall into Ghost Lake City’s grasp.

Once the master was free, he certainly wouldn’t let Matu and Auson continue growing unchecked.

"Now it’s your turn."

Carolina looked towards Matu and Auson’s direction, her eyes briefly glinting.

...

The sa thoughts were shared by both the Red Widow and Duke Black.

Watching Ugo killed and the swarm disbanded, their hearts sank.

"Worthless! Absolutely worthless!"

"And yet you bragged about surely defeating Sunan, only to be dispatched so easily!"

Duke Black gritted his teeth in anger.

He hadn’t imagined Ugo would lose to Sunan, let alone so decisively, and without causing much damage to Ghost Lake City’s forces.

It was obvious, with their remaining strength, Ghost Lake City would turn their focus on soone as their next target!

The Red Widow’s expression was equally grave, devoid of her usual frivolity and wantonness.

Ghost Lake City, or rather the strength Sunan showcased, far surpassed their expectations.

You could say both Kasham’s and Ugo’s defeats were deserved.

Though it didn’t hinder her disdain and irritation towards Ugo.

If only he had exerted a bit more effort, inflicting greater losses on Ghost Lake City before dying, she would have had more room to maneuver.

But now, she lacked even the slightest confidence she could withstand Ghost Lake City.

Once Sunan freed his hands, it would spell the end for Matu and Auson.

What to do?

The Red Widow glanced at Duke Black, still caught in a fit of rage, and a glint of brilliance flickered in her crimson eyes.
